Mia
It was coronation day. It was the day of my ritual as the Luna of the pack and the day that I was going to be initiated as a wolf. It was jubilation time for the pack but most especially for me.
I was finally going to be recognized by all the werewolves as one of them and be able to boldly announce to anyone that I belonged to the silver moon pack. It was the day that I had finally been waiting for.
I was more than excited that I was about to be accepted officially by the wolves and into the world of the boys. I was finally going to get to belong with them in every sense of the word.
The werewolves were in a happy mood, excited to have another reason to gather and celebrate again and I didn’t think anything could stop them from feeling the way they feel at that moment, not even Fredo’s angry glares as he moved around the party.
What was wrong with him? I had heard that he was like that during Quinn’s party too. Couldn’t he pretend to be happy at all? I doubted if anyone cared about his sour looks. No, I didn’t think so as I looked around and noted the happy faces and smiling lips all around us. Everyone was too happy to care about a grouch trying to impose his misery on them.
Mum was surprised to see the guests trooping in one after the other but Albert found another excuse for her. The lies that Albert had told mum were enough for him to rot in hell and I couldn’t imagine how angry she would be when she finally found out the truth. I dreaded the day already.
We all moved to the cave for the ritual. I was directed to stand at the center of the cave while the rest of the pack surrounded me, chanting and beating their chests.
The sight of the cave where the ritual was being done was a beautiful wonder to behold and I was amazed. I didn’t think I knew this part of the cave existed. I had only seen where the dark wizard was chained. I didn’t know that there was still something as beautiful as this in the interior. I would have explored a long time ago if I had known that there was still more to the cave.
The chants were a melody I didn’t think I was going to forget in a hurry. It sounded beautiful to the ears. I suddenly thought of mum and missed her. This was a memorable moment in my life and I wanted her with me but she didn’t know of the existence of werewolves.
Moreover, she wasn’t a werewolf and couldn’t be here as only wolves were allowed into this part of the cave. I wondered what would have happened to me if I had found it when I was human as I had found where the dark wizard had been chained then. I wondered if I would have found this place even if I had toured the whole cave. Maybe it was sealed with a special charm that made it invisible to those who weren’t werewolves. Maybe I could see it at the moment and walk into it because of the werewolf venom running through my veins.
I wanted mum here with me but traditions were traditions and I had to respect them, even if I didn’t like it.
Albus walked into the circle with a knife in his right hand and a jar in his left hand. Quinn had told me of the knife and also warned me to brace up for the worst pain that I could ever imagine.
“On your knees, girl.” Albus thundered, his voice echoing through the cave as the werewolves had all gone silent the moment he stepped into the circle.
I went down in a swoop, my heart beating loudly in my chest. Albus moved closer to me and raised the blade to my skin. “Mia, daughter of Vanessa and adopted daughter to Albert and accepted daughter of the silver moon pack, on this day and this moment in the presence of all the werewolves gathered here, I appoint you as the Luna of the pack.” He said and with that, he slashed five deep marks on my back. I was glad that he didn’t slash them on my chest as I had seen some angry looking scars on Quinn’s chest when he had undressed in front of me.
I guessed Lunas weren’t given scars on their chests because they were females. I was grateful for that and almost thanked him for the kind consideration of my boobs. I couldn’t imagine feeling ashamed of my body outside when I have to wear clothes that were going to reveal my cleavage.
I sighed, feeling silly at my thoughts. I was indeed silly. I couldn’t believe cleavages and fashion sense was what was running through my mind at a point like this.
I cried out as the blade touched my skin. Nothing could have prepared me for this crazy pain. I looked at the boys and their eyes were pinched together in pain as they watched me suffer. They stood there, looking helpless and sad and I almost pitied them for having to see me this way.
I managed a tight smile for their benefit to show them that I was okay. I knew that they were suffering as much as I was, watching me in pain and knew that they would have endured the pain on my behalf if they could.
They couldn’t. This was my cross to bear and I was going to bear it well, with honor. It was my badge of victory and authority.
Albus stood, watching and waiting for the wounds on my skin to heal up. Slowly, the wounds began to close up and I felt like I was going crazy. The pain was intense, more than it had been when the knife had first made contact on my skin.
The pack cheered as they saw that the wounds on my body had healed. That meant that the ancestors had accepted me as the Luna of the pack and I couldn’t have been more grateful to them. I couldn’t have endured this pain for nothing and I felt like blowing kisses to them.
Albus moved forward, dipped his hand into the jar, scooped some of its content and rubbed it on my body. He turned to the pack and spoke in a loud booming voice. “You may all bow to the Luna.”
The pack bowed, all except Quinn, and Albus instructed me to stand up and join the pack.
I sagged in relief as I got up on my knees and joined the crowd who pulled me into a group embrace the moment I got to them.
“Congratulations, Luna.” They all said, smiling at me as I walked through their midst.
“Thank you.” I smiled at them all, my eyes scanning the crowd to look for the boys.
It seemed like the elders had pulled them into a conversation and it was going to be a while before I could get to talk with them. I decided to bask in the greetings of the werewolves surrounding me and smiling at me, showing me an excessive dose of their support and acceptance into the pack.
The wolves were beginning to walk out of the cave, going outside for the party but I wasn’t moving yet. I was going to wait here for the boys so we could all move together to the party.
Saidah stopped in front of me on her way outside. “Congratulations, Luna. You deserve it.” She said, bowing to me.
“Thank you.” I smiled as I looked at her. That was huge coming from her and it felt good as well.
“Welcome to the pack.”
I nodded and smiled as I watched her walk away.
I gasped as I was suddenly pulled into an embrace. I smiled and melted softly against Quinn when he turned me around and placed a hard kiss on my lips.
“I’m proud of you, darling.” He said when he raised his head up.
“I’m proud of myself too.” I smiled.
He chuckled. “Shall we?”
“Yes.” I replied. “Where are the others?”
“We are here.” Jack and John said as they joined us.
We all held hands as we walked out of the cave to where the party was taking place.
