He looked at her with a knowing smirk.
“No, don’t get me wrong, just, I haven’t seen you sound that nice to any female before…” Audrey babbled, trying to defend herself.
He drew her chair close to him and bent over to her ears.
“And what’s it to you if I’m close to her?” He softly whispered to her ears.
“Pfft! Nothing, absolutely not…” He grabbed her chin and hotly locked his lips to hers, shutting her up.
Audrey’s eyes widened in surprise, he had never touched her so publicly before, and now, in front of many prestigious woves’, he was kissing her like his life depended on it.
She was scared, scared because she liked it.
She knew she shouldn’t, but, Avery was swimming on cloud nine, making her feel euphoric.
She felt worshipped that her mate was kissing her in front of a lot of people, staking his claim on her.
“Ahem, A-alpha, your drinks,” Alice announced, feeling embarrassed by the scene before her. Not like she hasn’t seen wolves kissing… even fucking before; but, she had never seen their Alpha kiss anyone and so possessively.
“Did that clear your doubts, Kitten?” He whispered against her lips.
Audrey nodded, not trusting her voice to come out strong if she answered.
“I don’t do my employees, Kitten,” He assured her with a sexy smile.
“But I am your employee,” Audrey reminded him.
“You’re different, Kitten, you’re my m… here,” Alpha Lake slid a glass of his Gold-rimmed wine to her.
“Thank you.” Audrey took it and gulped almost half of it.
She already knew what he had wanted to say, thanks to the moon goddess, he didn’t finish his statement. She wasn’t sure how she would have reacted if he had said it directly to her face.
Alpha Lake raised a brow at her when he saw how she was speedily downing the drink, he wanted to tell her to go easy, but Regal held him back.
‘Let her, don’t you want to see what our mate looks like when drunk?’ Alpha Lake smirked and clinked his glass with hers.
Indeed he wanted to see his little human mate get drunk, Maybe, she might give in to them when the alcohol loosens her up.
He knew the drink was too strong for her human body, it was meant for high-ranked werewolves like himself, but he wanted to see how well she could hold her liquor.
He watched her with curious eyes as she drank a whole glass of his Gold-rimmed wine.
“Good evening, Alpha Lake,” A middle-aged man walked up to them with a girl by his side.
The girl looked reserved; like she didn’t want to be here. Her looks weren’t that bad, but she couldn’t be classified as overly beautiful.
Her blonde hair was let down, reaching her shoulders and her figure was properly displayed in the white body-hug long gown she wore. Her flat nude-colored shoes seemed to be struggling to stay on her leg.
Overall; she looked innocent and pure.
“Good evening, Mr. Sullivan, Adeline,” Alpha Lake acknowledged his guests.
Mr. Sullivan was an average wolf from the Furry Pack. He was known for his success in the architectural field, and he was sought after by many for his services. He’d been widowed for fifteen years and had been the only one to raise his daughter.
Adeline was his only child, she was loved by everyone for being well-nurtured and hard-working, as she took after her father in her profession.
“Alpha Lake, nice to meet you again.” Adeline greeted meekly.
“The pleasure’s mine, Adeline.” Alpha Lake replied politely.
Audrey just sat there, watching as the guests completely ignored her presence, not until Alpha Lake introduced her.
“This is my secretary, Catherine. Catherine this is Mr. Sullivan and his daughter, Adeline.” He introduced.
“Good evening Mr. Sullivan, Adeline.” Audrey shook hands with Mr. Sullivan briefly, and then his daughter.
For some reason, her instinct led her to read Adeline’s mind. Truly, looks were deceitful. She slowly retrieved her hand from Adeline who was still busy smiling sweetly at her.
She was glad she read her mind, if not, she would have thought her to be so meek and kind as she posed to be.
“Um, I need to use the restroom, Which way is it?” Audrey said to Alpha Lake.
“I’ll take you,” Alpha Lake offered.
“Don’t worry, Alpha, let me. I know this place better than she does, and my father wants to speak with you privately.” Adeline suggested gently.
“You go with her, kitten, I’ll catch up with you soon.” He assured Audrey.
Audrey reluctantly followed Adeline.
They reached the female restroom and Adeline paused, turning to Audrey, her sweet smile was nowhere to be found, nonexistent.
“Listen to me, human.” Adeline cornered Audrey to a wall, her whole demeanor was the complete opposite of what she had displayed earlier.
Audrey played along, acting scared. She had known Adeline wanted a confrontation when she had offered to take her to the restroom.
She already knew what she was about to say to her.
“I’ll let you off this time because this is my first warning to you. I won’t be so friendly with you next time, understand?” Adeline looked fiercely at Audrey.
“I don’t quite follow,” Audrey shrugged, acting confused.
Adeline had only said she was letting her off the hook but didn’t say why. Even though she knew what she was referring to, she needed to hear it from the horse’s mouth.
“Stay away from my mate, he’ll never be mated to a useless human like you. He is mine.” Adeline held Audrey’s neck and pressed her to the wall, threatening to choke her.
“Next time I see you with him, I’ll kill you. And trust me, human, you don’t want to know what it looks like when a wolf gets angry!” Adeline hopes to scare Audrey away, she briefly lets her wolf surface, turning her blue eyes to a glowing brown.
Audrey lazily stared at Adeline, she was bored from the moment they stepped into this place, this was the climax of her boredom. She couldn’t act scared anymore.
“This is considered a warning, human!” Adeline finished and pushed Audrey aside, hitting her back against the wall. She noticed something in Audrey and decided to leave, still proud.
Audrey smiled as she watched Adeline arrogantly walk away from her, she saw her arranging her features as she was about to step out into the club, regaining her innocent look back.
Audrey went into a room and locked the door.
She leaned against the door with her eyes closed. Adeline was the least of her problems at the moment.
Audrey sighed, “Selena, Avery, no more sidetracking. It’s been two months, and I feel my sister getting closer to her goal, and we haven’t found what we came back for. It’s time to get serious.”
‘I already helped you the best I could, Audrey. It’s all up to you.” Selena said.
‘I’m trying to help, but you won’t let me.’ Avery said mischievously.
Audrey rolled her eyes.
“You’re trying to get me laid, that’s what you’re doing.” She responded to Avery.
“No more sidetracking then. It’s all up to me.” Audrey said to herself.
Her phone rang as she wanted to leave the restroom.
“Maria?” Audrey called as she answered the phone.
“Wow, that’s how you talk to your beloved cousin after so long,” Maria whined over the phone.
“How are you, Maria?” Audrey rolled her eyes, sighing.
“I miss you, how long more are you going to take?” Maria questioned.
“Not so long, trust me. I’ll be back before you know it.”
“Are you going to mate him?” Maria asked.
“What?! No!” Audrey refuted immediately.
She wanted to ask her how she came to know that the Alpha was her mate, but then she remembered she had sent them a message, updating them on everything.
“Ssuurree?” Maria dragged her words, teasing Audrey.
“Go away, Maria. Bye!” Audrey ended the call and marched outside.
Immediately she came into the club, her heart sank.
She felt a sharp pain in her chest when she saw Alpha Lake holding Adeline’s waist as they danced on the dancefloor.
His back was to her, and Adeline was facing her over the Alpha’s shoulder. She gave Audrey a victory smirk, smugly wrapping her hands around Alpha Lake’s shoulders.
Audrey blinked her eyes and looked away from them. It was better this way, she needed to see that. Now she was going to channel her hurt and anger into her mission. Enough with him.
She went and sat down on her chair, gulping her drink down at once.
“Easy there, Missy,” Mr. Sullivan held her wrist, stopping her from drinking more.
And that was when she saw his thoughts; just like his daughter, he wasn’t what he seemed to be.
He was a dirty old man who wanted to find a way to lure her into sleeping with him. Not only that, he also was encouraging his daughter to seduce the Alpha and become the Luna of the strongest Pack ever.
They planned to use his powerful connection for illegal businesses, like human trafficking and selling illegal substances.
“Get your hands off me, Sullivan.” She slapped his hands away. Restraining herself from plucking his eyes right off from their sockets.
“Feisty, I like it.” He smiled seductively.
