Charlotte was naturally not one to back down. She didn’t take this scoundrel seriously at all.
“I laugh at those who try to gain without effort.”
“In this world, some people can’t get what they want, so they look for what others have, hoping to enjoy the benefits without any effort.”
“But where in the world does such good fortune exist?”
Seemingly struck a nerve, Aviana became even more furious. “Shut up!”
“You wretch, my business is none of your concern!”
She stepped forward quickly and swung her hand towards Charlotte’s face. The wind whistled, and Charlotte couldn’t dodge in time. Just as the slap was about to land on her face, a large hand caught it.
“Let go!” Aviana shouted in anger.
Quentin’s eyes flashed coldly as he tightened his grip slightly.
Aviana screamed in pain, feeling as if her hand bones were about to crack.
Quentin’s voice was icy as he spoke slowly, “If you try that again, next time I’ll break your hand. I mean it.”
He released Aviana’s hand. She looked into his cold eyes, feeling as if she had been pierced by a sword, unable to meet his gaze. This man was terrifying, his presence overwhelming.
She turned to Devon, biting her lip. “Devon, are you even a man? Your girlfriend is being bullied, and you do nothing?”
Devon remained silent.
“Devon, you disappoint me. You’re useless. Let’s break up!”
Devon replied coldly, “Fine. Let’s part ways amicably. Return my salary card and leave.”
He was tired.
When he first pursued Aviana, he knew she didn’t really like him. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been entangled with several men at the same time.
Later, when they got together, he thought he could move her with his efforts. But he realized it was futile.
Aviana took everything he did for granted. As for being moved? That was a luxury! Impossible!
Now, breaking up was a relief for him.
Aviana looked incredulous. “What did you say? You want to break up with me? On what grounds? Only I have the right to decide!”
“As long as I don’t agree, you’ll never break up with me in this lifetime. Only I can dump you; you’re not worthy!”
Aviana was truly furious. In her eyes, someone like Devon had no right to break up with her, even if she was the one who suggested it.
Moreover, in her imagination, even if she proposed the breakup, Devon should beg her back, not decisively end things.
Devon shook his head. “Aviana, wake up. I used to accommodate you and care for you because I liked you and felt it was my responsibility as a man. But that doesn’t mean you can take advantage of me, throw tantrums, use our relationship to threaten my sister, and vent your anger on others.”
“You’ve disappointed me.”
“All I see in you is selfishness, arrogance, and rudeness.”
“We’re done.”
“From now on, we owe each other nothing.”
Aviana was stunned for a moment before throwing another tantrum. “Devon, you coward! You wasted one or two years of my youth and now want to break up? Dream on!”
“Let me tell you, being with me is your greatest fortune!”
“Now you want to break up? You wish! You need to compensate me for my lost youth!”
Seeing Aviana’s unreasonable behavior, everyone was speechless.
Riya asked coldly, “How much do you want?”
Aviana sneered. “Ten thousand! No, twenty thousand dollars!”
“If you don’t pay, Devon, you’ll never work here again. If I cause a scene at your company, who do you think people will believe?”
Seeing her sinister smile, Devon felt a chill in his heart. He hadn’t expected the person he loved for one or two years to be so despicable.
Even worse than he imagined.
Riya spoke calmly. “Compensation for lost youth? Sure.”
“I have no problem with that.”
“First, let’s settle our financial disputes.”
She looked at Devon. “Did she spend money from your salary card without your consent?”
Devon nodded.
“Alright then. First, unauthorized use of someone else’s card for spending is considered theft. Return that money first.”
“We can have a professional agency determine the amount.”
“You must compensate us for our losses.”
“Second, if we choose to pursue this legally, your actions are already illegal. We can take this to court.”
“Let the law decide. Then you’ll not only have to pay but also face jail time!”
“As for compensation for lost youth, we’ll pay if the court orders it. But whether you get it depends on your ability.”
Riya said this calmly.
Aviana was terrified. “Who are you trying to scare? Do you think I’m afraid?”
“Fine.” Riya took out her phone. “I have a friend at the police station. I’ll call him over to help with your compensation.”
She dialed the number.
Aviana’s heart pounded wildly as cold sweat broke out on her forehead. “Alright! I’m leaving! Fine! You’re tough; I’m out of here!”
She threw down a card and stormed off.
Devon felt lost.
Quentin gave Aviana a long look and warned Riya, “Be careful of that woman.”
Riya scoffed. “She’s just an idiot; she can’t cause any trouble.”
Quentin reminded her, “Even a street rat can attack a rabbit with the support of a tiger. Don’t underestimate her.”
Riya nodded. It was a tumultuous time; she didn’t want any trouble.
Meanwhile, in the Edwards family hall, Urijah sat on the sofa, swirling a glass of red wine and reading a book.
A young man rushed in. “Master, there’s trouble…”
