Chapter 56: Stay Still

He knew he was responsible. Being drunk and bold, he had even considered kissing her.
But Bianca was engaged. No matter how he felt, he knew it wasn’t right to act on those feelings.
“I’m okay…” Bianca tried to stand up on her own, but the pain in her foot was intense. She lost her balance and fell sideways.
She ended up in Blake’s arms, her hand clutching his chest instinctively.
It seemed like they were very close and intimate.
Suddenly, a large hand grabbed Blake’s shoulder and pulled him back so hard that even Blake, a big guy, fell backward.
Bianca, losing her support, tumbled to the ground.
Blake stumbled a few steps before regaining his balance.
Looking up, Blake saw Dave’s tall figure standing protectively in front of Bianca.
Blake snapped back to reality instantly!
Dave’s presence was intimidating, his cold, angry gaze sending a chill down Blake’s spine like daggers.
In a panic, Blake tried to explain, “Hey, it’s not what it looks like… Nothing’s happening here!”
But his explanation only made things worse.
Seeing Dave’s chilling silence, Blake nervously said, “My friends are waiting for me. I’ll leave if you’re okay.”
With that, he hurried off like he was being chased by a storm.
Bianca stumbled to the wall, struggling to stand.
She looked in shock at the tall man before her, memories of earlier events stirring upset feelings inside her.
“Why did you leave the private room, Mr. Evans? Weren’t you enjoying yourself? Why come out here?”
Dave turned, his eyes intense with anger.
After Bianca’s quick kiss and departure, he drank several glasses of liquor, but his longing remained unfulfilled. He stepped outside for some fresh air.
But there, he saw Bianca in the arms of a shirtless man.
It angered him. She was rushing to meet that man!
And they were so bold as to undress in public!
Mockingly, Dave said, “What? Did I interrupt something?”
Realizing his misunderstanding, Bianca quickly protested, “You’ve got it all wrong. I just ran into Blake, that’s all!”
“Just ran into him?” Dave scoffed, stepping closer. He slammed his hand against the wall by her ear, startling her.
Leaning in, his eyes intense and a mocking smile playing on his lips, he said, “So, it’s just a coincidence that you’re in each other’s arms? And his being shirtless is a coincidence, too? Next, you’ll say sharing a bed is accidental?”
“Dave Evans, you’re a despicable jerk!” Bianca became furious, her face flushed with anger.
She pushed him forcefully, but the effort shot pain through her, forcing her to squat and clutch her ankle, sweat beading her forehead.
Dave paused, then noticed her swollen, bruised ankle.
“What happened to your foot?” he asked, worry creasing his brow.
“I twisted my ankle earlier. Blake was just helping me because I lost my balance. It was all just an accident, really. He wasn’t wearing a shirt because he lost a bet with his friend. And then, he just bumped into me… It’s all so ridiculous. Why am I even explaining this to you?” Bianca was visibly upset, with tears in her eyes and a sniffle in her voice.
Despite the pain in her foot, it was nothing compared to the pain Dave had caused her. She fought hard to keep her emotions controlled, determined not to cry in front of him.
Dave seemed taken aback by her words. Had he misunderstood her?
He bent down and nervously grabbed her ankle. “Let me take a look.”
Bianca shook off his hand and said, “It’s none of your business! From now on, you live your life; I’ll live mine. We won’t interfere with each other!”
“We can talk about this later. Right now, your foot needs attention.”
As Dave pressed the elevator button, a bar staff member approached, noticing Dave and Bianca. She was cradling her ankle. The staff member stopped and bowed respectfully. “Sir, how can I help you?”
Just then, the elevator doors opened. Dave lifted Bianca in his arms and told the staff member, “My fiancee sprained her ankle. Please prepare a room on the third floor for us and bring some ice packs.”
“Yes, sir.”
Bianca squirmed in Dave’s arms, confused as to why he still called her his fiancee and held her so closely after she had asked for a clean break.
“Dave, let me go! I want to go home!” Bianca pinched Dave’s arm in frustration.
Dave frowned slightly, feeling as if a disobedient cat had scratched his arm.
He looked down at her with his charming eyes. “Relax. Your place is also mine. It’s all the same.”
“You!” Bianca’s ears turned red with anger. “How can you have no shame!”
“Your ankle is really swollen. Without ice, you might struggle with walking for quite a while,” Dave said seriously.
Bianca bit her lip lightly, finding it hard to argue. He always had a good point. She needed to focus on Vincent’s work arrangements lately, and she didn’t want any inconvenience at this crucial moment.
The third floor of Champs Le Bar had guest rooms. Even the simplest room costs a lot of money per night.
Upon reaching the third floor, Bianca and Dave were greeted by someone who quickly opened a door for them.
Dave gently placed Bianca on the neatly made bed in the bedroom. Looking around, she realized they were in a suite with golden decor that showed luxury.
“This room must be expensive, right? Maybe we should just leave?” Bianca didn’t want to owe him more.
Dave, half-kneeling in front of her, removed her high heels. Her delicate, pink feet were revealed, unintentionally enticing.
Her ankle was visibly swollen.
With his hands on either side of Bianca, Dave looked up at her, his eyes filled with tenderness.
“Going back now would take time, and your ankle needs immediate care. Don’t worry about the cost. My boss will cover tonight’s expenses. I won’t have to pay a dime.”
Bianca felt a bit relieved after hearing this. But who was Dave’s boss? He seemed to have a lot of money.
At that moment, the doorbell rang. It was the hotel staff delivering ice packs.
“Just give them to me.” Dave took the ice packs and shut the door.
He crouched in front of Bianca, placed an ice pack on her swollen ankle, and held it there.
The cold feeling made Bianca want to pull her foot away, but Dave kept it in place.
“Stay still; just bear with it for a moment.”
Bianca’s cheeks warmed as she watched him. Dave didn’t seem bothered by his awkward position. He was focused on applying the ice. His fingertips started to redden from the cold, but he didn’t show any discomfort.
He was so kind and caring.
