Chapter 70
The new man.
Megan’s POV:
“I guess that you have got visitors!” I asked Lily who was still skeptical about the atmosphere.
“Yeah… but?” Lily tried asking when I cut her short.
“Then, I will meet them now!” I told her.
“Come with me!” I ordered her.
After the meeting, Lily persuaded me to continue the investigation.
“Yeah!” I replied.
“I guess that I underestimated Kayla a lot because it seems like Veronica is working for her!” I told Lily.
“Oh, my goodness!” Lily exclaimed.
“I knew that there was something wrong with that girl” she said.
“I believe so now!” I sighed when my phone beeped.
“Meet me at the old oak tree in the part at midnight! I will tell you all you need to know about Kayla and Hailey!” The text message read.
“What is the problem?” Lily asked me.
“Read this!” I said and handed over the phone to her.
“Come alone!” Lily emphasized.
“Yeah!” It says I should come along.
“But it feels off… I don’t think that honoring this.” I said.
“Why?” Lily asked me.
“Why? This entire text sounds creepy and unsafe, and you know that!” I explained to her.
“That does not matter!” Lily said.
“I can come with you!” Lily offered.
“But it clearly states that I should come alone!” I interrupted.
“I can just hide somewhere where I will not be seen by anyone!” Lily said.
“Trust me!” She added.
“Okay!” I replied.
“Midnight!” I said and Lily nodded her head happily.
It was midnight and I snuck out of my neighborhood to go meet this mystery person.
Got to the park and it was so cold with leaves flying and birds singing. I went straight to the oak tree, and I immediately got a text from Lily telling me that, she had her eyes on me.
Not so long, I heard footsteps coming towards me as a figure stepped out of the shadow.
It looked like a man.
“Hi!” I heard as cold shivers ran down my spines.
Standing before me was a man with piercing blue eyes and had a jet-black hair.
“Hey!” He said again waving at me as he tucked his hands back into his black leather jacket.
“Who are you?” I asked trying to hide my fear.
“I am Asher,” the man replies, his voice low and mysterious. “And I’m here to help you take down Hailey and Kayla once and for all.” He told me.
“And how do you know about them?” I asked.
“That will be a story for another day! But for now, we need to get ways to bring them down!” He told me.
“I know everything in this world that that bring those women down…” Asher started as I stared.
“Then why do you need to work with me…” I was saying when he took a gun out.
“What!” I exclaimed silently.
“Don’t be afraid. I only want you to see what I will be using to take down those two!” He said.
“No… you need to take the gun down and you are not going to be using that if we will be working together!” I told him.
“And you are so angry why take the laws into your hands when you can just report to the police!” I told him.
“The police!” He asked and laughed hysterically.
“They will only aggravate this and do nothing… maybe not in the way I want.” Asher told me.
“Then, count me out of this!” I said as turned to leave.
“Okay, okay!” Asher said.
“Agreed!” He added.
“Asher, I will work with you, but on my own terms. I can’t just blindly trust you, especially after what I found out.” I told him.
“About what?” He asked with his eyes widened.
“The gun!” I reminded him.
“I understand.” He concluded.
“I get that, Asher. I really do. But it feels like you want revenge badly, but I will not let your revenge quest cloud my judgment. We’ll work together, but we’ll do it my way. No secrets, no lies. And we will focus on taking down both Hailey and Kayla, not just one.” I told him.
“Agreed. I promise, Megan, I will be honest with you. But please, do not betray me. I’m counting on you. I’ve been working on this for so long, and I can’t do it alone.” Asher pleaded.
“I would not betray you, Asher, but I won’t let you manipulate me either. We’ll work together, and we’ll take down Hailey and Veronica, but it’ll be on my terms, not yours. And we will do it in a way that won’t hurt anyone else.” I emphasized.
“Okay, Megan. I trust you. Let us do this. But please, be careful. Hailey and Kayla. won’t go down without a fight. They’ll try to destroy you.” Asher reminded me.
“I can handle myself, Asher. And I have Chris and other friends who’ll help us. Let’s focus on gathering all the evidence we can. Recordings, witness statements, everything.” I told him.
“Sounds like a plan. But Megan? One more thing. My sister was also hurt by those two… but she is not the only one who was hurt by Kayla’s bullying. There are others, and we need to help them too.” He suggested.
“Of course, Asher. We will help them all. We’ll make sure Veronica and Hailey pay for what they’ve done.” I assured him.
“Asher, I need to ask you something. What’s your motivation for taking down Hailey and Kayla? Is it just about revenge for what they did to your sister?” I asked him.
“Honestly, Megan, it’s not just about revenge. It’s about justice. And it’s about making sure no one else suffers like my sister did. She was a bright, happy person before they got to her. And after… she was just a shadow of her former self.” Asher lamented.
“I understand that. But what about your own feelings? Are you seeking redemption or something?” I inquired.
“Redemption? Maybe. I feel guilty for not being able to protect my sister when she needed me.” He started.
“I was too caught up in my own stuff to notice what was happening to her. And by the time I realized what was going on, it was too late. If I can help take down Hailey and Kayla, maybe I can forgive myself a little.” Asher lamented.
“I see. Well, Asher, we’re in this together now. And I promise you, we’ll get justice for your sister and all the others they’ve hurt. But you need to promise me something too.” I told him.
“What’s that?” Asher asked.
“You need to promise me that you’ll let go of your anger and your need for revenge. We’re not doing this to hurt anyone else; we’re doing it to stop the bullying in the industry!” I explained.
“I promise, Megan. I’ll keep my focus on justice, not revenge. Thanks for understanding.” Asher said.
“Of course, Asher. We’re in this together, all the way.” I added.
