Chapter 71
A friend indeed.
Megan’s POV:
“What happened in there?” Lily asked me with all eagerness before I could even say a word.
“I met him!” I told her as I got into the car before I would get seen by Asher.
“He is Asher!” I told her.
“Asher!” Lily emphasized.
“But I do not know him!” Lily said.
“Yeah… you do not but I only want you to know whom I spoke too… but I do not know why I feel like he is hiding something asides the vendetta he has against Kayla and Hailey!” I told her.
“Kayla and Hailey!” Lily asked.
“I think that is a lot for you to access!” Lily commented.
“But why does he want to bring the down with you… what wrong did those two do to him?” Lily asked me.
“I do not know…” I replied.
“He would not tell me because he thinks that is another story for another day!” I told her.
“Do you even know that he was armed when I got to see him… he has a gun on him.” I whispered as I turned back to be sure that no one was listening.
“Let us get out of here, Lily before we get seen by him… remember he has gotten a gun on him.” I reminded her as we zoomed off the park.
“Why are staring that way?” Lily asked as she noticed that I was lost in thought.
“I feel like there is something I am not getting well with him!” I told her.
“Yeah… from what you’ve have said too… I think I agree with you!” Lily said as I drove away.
“Now, how are you pulling up with Veronica?” Lily asked me.
“I will be letting her go…” I said as I got a text message again.
“You did not keep to your own end of the bargain… you came with someone!” Asher sent a message.
“Oh my God!” I muttered.
“He knows about you!” I told her.
“Now you will think that I lied and disobeyed after he asked me not to be here with anyone!” I lamented.
“It is a good thing that we are out of the park… else who knows what will have happened!” Lily said as she drove out of the park on high speed.
The next day, I woke up to notes pleading with me to let Veronica stay.
“What is that!” Lily asked me to see me pick up a few notes.
“I think this is from Veronica!” I explained.
“She is pleading with me not to let her go away!” I told her further.
“But sadly, I guess you can’t!” Lily said.
“Yeah… get ready for work. I will be leaving soon.” I told her.
“Megan, please… have mercy. I know I was wrong, but I was so desperate because my sister asked me too and I had no other option. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. Kayla was the one who started it all, and I just got caught up in it. Please, don’t tell anyone about my involvement.” Veronica begged like her life depended on this.
“Sorry to inform, a couple of people know about this already because,” I told her.
“Veronica, how can I possibly consider keeping quiet after what you have done?” I asked her.
“I know, I know… but please, think about it. If this gets out, my sister’s reputation will be ruined. I will never get into college. I will do anything to make it right, Megan. Just please, do not expose me. I’ll do community service, I’ll volunteer, I’ll do anything to make up for what I’ve done… please!” She continued.
“Veronica, you should have thought about that before doing this. I think you need to be held accountable for your actions.” O told her with no remorse.
“I know… I’m so sorry. I’ll do anything to make it right. I’ll apologize to everyone I hurt, I’ll write letters, I’ll do anything. Just please, have mercy. I’m begging you, Megan. Please.” Veronica I as not giving up.
“Veronica, I will think about it. But no promises. And even if I do decide to keep quiet, it’s not just about you. It’s about the people you hurt and making sure they get the justice they deserve. And it’s about making sure you learn from your mistakes and become a better person.” I made her understand.
“Thank you, Megan. Thank you for considering it. I will do anything, just please… please don’t tell anyone.” Veronica asked.
“You know what Veronica; you can leave the premises now!” I told her.
“I am glad to have had someone as you to be my mentee, but I guess that ends here!” I reminded her as Veronica looked at me in tears.
“I am sorry!” I said and walked out on her.
“Now, let us wait and see what the news carries later!” Lily said as she watched us from afar.
“I really do not care about that and their opinion!” I scoffed.
After a long day, I guess it was time for me to retire back home.
“Where is everyone?” I asked myself as I got out of the office.
I had stayed longer than the estimated time at work and everywhere looked so empty.
“Lily could not even let me know that she was leaving, tch!” I sighed and left.
Walked straight to the balcony and I could see two figures standing in the dark. They were having a conversation.
“Who are they?” I asked myself and got closer but soon realized that they were three.
I drew closer and behold, standing right in front of me was Lily, Kayla and Veronica.
“What are they doing together?” I wondered.
“I think Veronica was not smart enough that she got caught by Megan! She probably did not want to do the job!” Lily lamented.
“Yeah! She has always seen her as a goddess!” Kayla said.
“Now, we need to find another way around this! Because you all know how busy I can be, and I might not be the right person for this!” Lily told the group.
Lily!
So, Lily is a part of this group, and I knew nothing about it? I trusted her and thought she was different.
No wonder Veronica was able to access my laptop without knowing my password.
I am going to confront them all and know why Lily could betray me like this.
“Lily!” I screamed.
“So, this is how you choose to repay me after all that I have done for you!” I said with pain as they were all surprised seeing me at the scene.
“Oh Megan!” Lily said unsure of what to say when Kayla stepped in front of her to confront me.
“And what are you going to do about that? Huh? Call the cops?” Kayla asked.
“I will make sure I scream and let everyone know about your conspiracy.” I said as I felt a sharp pain on my head and fell to the ground unconscious.
