“Be careful!”
A child, a few years older, suddenly bumped into her leg.
“Ah!” Ranita screamed, her body unsteady as she fell to the side. Ranita instinctively closed her eyes, afraid of hitting her head and bleeding.
“Ranita!” Makhi’s tense voice came from her ear. Before she could react, her back bumped into a solid chest.
A faint scent of oranges spread.
“Are you okay?”
“Is Ranita alright?”
Ranita looked dazedly at Makhi, her mind a bit slow. She awkwardly tried to steady herself, but the heel of her high heel got stuck in a gap in the manhole cover with a click.
Ranita felt even more embarrassed.
She tried hard to get the heel out, but found it stuck tightly, immovable.
Oh no!
“Don’t move!” Suddenly, Makhi squatted down, one hand holding her ankle and the other grabbing the heel. “Let me try.”
“Be careful!” Makhi’s voice was gentle and full of affinity, easily relaxing her nervousness.
Ranita pursed her lips, embarrassed to say, “Thank you, Mr. Terry.”
“Be careful not to get your hands dirty.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t.” After a pause, Makhi added, “If your shoes don’t come out, you’ll have to walk back barefoot.”
Seeing his calm demeanor, Ranita felt much less embarrassed. She smiled and said, “Thank you.”
With the joint efforts of the two, the heel slowly came out, and Ranita felt much lighter on her feet.
“Why did you suddenly come back? Is everything resolved?” Makhi pursed his lips. “Do you need my help?”
Makhi wanted to help, but he really had no position, so he didn’t dare to take the initiative.
“Thank you, I can handle it.” Ranita’s eyes smiled particularly beautifully, like a star in the sky, very bright. Makhi stared at her blankly for a long time without speaking.
Ranita felt very embarrassed being stared at like this.
“Mr. Terry, is there something on my face?” Ranita touched her cheek and lifted her eyelids to look at Makhi.
Makhi shook his head and smiled, “Nothing!”
As he was about to reach out, Makhi said again, “It’s gone.”
“Thank you!” Ranita smiled and looked at the time. “I’ll go back and tidy up Ayaan’s things.”
“Oh, by the way, I’ve troubled you several times before. When you have time, I’ll treat you to dinner to thank you.”
Makhi wanted to say there’s no need to be so polite, but looking at Ranita’s bright face, he suddenly changed his mind and said, “Sure! Bring Ayaan along then. He’s a wonderful kid, very smart and knowledgeable.”
Talking about her son, Ranita became more talkative.
“Don’t praise him too much, he’s just a little rascal.” Everyone likes to hear their own children praised. Ranita’s mood improved, “Don’t say that in front of him… otherwise, he’ll be floating.”
“Ayaan is really cute, everyone likes him.” Makhi escorted Ranita downstairs before leaving.
As Ranita turned to leave, she suddenly caught a glimpse of a familiar figure out of the corner of her eye.
But when she looked closely, there was no one there.
It wasn’t until she got into the elevator that the man at the corner revealed half of his tall figure, his face covered in cold frost, looking very cold.
Only the tightly clenched fingers betrayed half of his emotions.
Brendon’s mind was in turmoil.
