Emerson had always been a person that was hard to argue with, his insistence was not something that Candice could fight against. Emerson insisted on bringing Candice to receive treatment, no matter how hard Candice resisted, she was at last brought onto the boat that was parked by the shore.
On the way back, Emerson hugged Candice tightly. He knew what Candice was thinking, what she was worrying about. Emerson had thought about it thoroughly the moment he jumped into the ocean. No matter life or death in the future, might it cost him his reputation, or be talked about behind his back, he would not want to separate from this woman ever again.
The boat stopped by the shore, and Emerson did not bring Candice home, but brought her directly to the hospital for a full body check-up. The check-up was extremely detailed, even her hair did not escape from being examined.
Robert who never gave up on looking for his brother and Candice was reported about the news by his assistant that his brother and Candice appeared, and he was so excited he was not behaving like himself, and brought Edward to the hospital immediately.
At the long hallway in the hospital, Emerson sat on the bench while waiting for Candice to come out of the examination chamber.
Candice heard a young voice before she even came out, “Big father!”
Emerson turned, Robert and his son had stood by his side and he had not realised it. Emerson hugged his son, it was a strong hug. No words were needed, the strength of a hug would already prove how much his missed his son and how sorry he was towards him.
“Big father, where’s my mum?” Edward’s head turned left and right, as he looked around for his mother.
“Your mother is inside doing a check-up, she’ll be out soon.” Emerson pointed to the door. Edward then slid from his big father’s grasp and tip toed trying to see his mother from the slightly opened doorway.
Emerson turned to look at Robert, who was well-dressed in a suit, although excited he was still looking calm, and he was very pleased, “Robert, you finally grew up.”
Robert stepped up, his eyes filled with expression, “Brother, I’m so glad to see you alive.”
“Yes, I’m still alive.” Emerson nodded.
Robert asked his brother about what happened, and why did they come back after more than one month. Emerson briefly mentioned about the process. Although Emerson had summarised it in a few sentences, but Robert could think of the gravity of the incidents.
When Robert saw the shoes of his brother and Candice laying by the seaside, the ache on his heart was gone, and there was only hope left: I hope that you did not die, and were just living in a corner of the world away from the rest of the world, happily together, I just want you two to be alive.
The door to the examination chamber was opened, and Edward hugged his mother’s legs, and shouted excitedly with his head held high, “Mum!”
Candice saw her son, and bent down to pick him up, she then kissed her son on his cheek. “Edward, mum missed you too.”
Then a doctor came out, asking, “Who are the patient’s family members, could you follow me to my office?”
Robert took a step on instinct, but he did not continue his second step, and took Edward out of Candice’s arms, “Brother, you should go.”
Emerson took one look at his brother, they were brothers for so many years, even a look was enough for them to understand everything.
Emerson followed the doctor, and Candice wanted to follow, but she was stopped by the doctor, who told her to wait outside.
“Doctor, I know my own body, I know that I have ovarian cancer. You should let me in, I…”
The doctor took no heed of Candice’s words, and still refused to let her in. Robert went over and pulled on Candice’s hand, his voice bitter, “You knew that you were sick, that’s why you brought our son back, you wanted to give him to my care. Or else, you wouldn’t have came back, right?”
Since things were already like this, Candice could only nod, “I’m sorry, Robert…”
Robert forced himself to smile. “Candice, you never owed me an apology, I was the one that owe a lot to you.”
In the doctor’s office, Emerson stood up abruptly, “Doctor, she’s pregnant?!”
