The doctor’s expression was solemn. “The patient’s left ovary has a tumour as large as an egg in it, whether it was benign or pernicious will have to be confirmed after some further tests. But the problem now is, the patient is pregnant. Seven weeks, the heartbeat of the fetus was well. So, the problem then becomes trickier.”
Emerson’s expression shifted. Candice was pregnant, doing the calculations, it should be due to the time in that afternoon at her house, when he had lost control, and he did not use any form of protection. Candice’s pregnancy was a happy thing, and he was again a father. But now her body was unable to protect itself, how would she be able to bear him a child again?
Emerson turned and punched the wall with one fist, he was frustrated by his lost of control, he blamed himself for letting Candice get pregnant.
The doctor told Emerson, “Sir, there are two possible solutions for your wife’s condition now. Firstly, do a further examination, to make sure whether the tumour was benign or pernicious in nature. No matter which, to operate early would be beneficial to the patient’s body and the quality of her life after. Of course, under this option, the fetus cannot be kept. Secondly, keep the fetus for now and keep a close eye on the tumour. If the tumour has not changed for the worse, and a caesarean section was carried out during the birth of the child, the tumour would be removed together as well.”
Emerson asked, “Doctor, so by your experience, should I choose the first option or the second option?”
The doctor replied, “I would of course recommend the first option. If the tumour was benign, removing one side of her ovary, and your wife would still have a fifty percent chance of getting pregnant. If it was pernicious, it would extend her lifespan as much as possible. The second chance would be just using her life as gambling chips.”
Emerson made the decision with almost no hesitation, “I choose the first option, but please don’t tell her that she’s pregnant.”
Emerson walked out of the doctor’s office, and Candice turned to watch him, his expression was as solemn as always, no sign of happiness or displease.
Candice knew of the result, so she sat calmly.
Edward and Robert looked at Emerson together. Emerson tried to sound as relaxed as possible, “The doctor said the tumour was not large, and he would conduct further examinations soon, and arrange for an operation as soon as possible.
Edward lifted his head, “Big father, if my mum goes through the operation, would she be cured?”
Emerson picked up Edward into his arms, “Yes, that was what the doctor said. Edward, do you still remember that I told you there was something in this world called a miracle?”
Edward nodded, his eyes full of expectation towards a miracle.
Back home, after dinner, Candice took Edward to bed. Candice was exhausted, and Edward could finally sleep well.
Robert came to Emerson’s room, Emerson was still up, the entire room filled with the scent of cigarettes. Robert reached over to extinguish the cigarette in Emerson’s hand, “Brother, stop smoking, too much smoking is bad for your body.”
Emerson turned to look at Robert, “It’s so late now Robert, and you’re still awake, is there anything that you need from me?”
Robert nodded, and passed a document to Emerson, “Brother, I have signed on this.”
Emerson did not accept the document, but got up towards the windows, and opened them up, “Robert, I rather not look at the papers, you are fully in charge of the company.”
Robert looked at his brother’s lonely silhouette by the window, and silently left the document on the nightstand.
“Brother, you should rest more when you just came back, just take good care of Candice and Edward. I’ll handle the company’s affairs.”
Robert went out and closed the bedroom door.
Although Emerson was back bringing Candice, although he decided to not care about everything anymore, but when he faced his brother, he still felt stricken towards him, and he did not dare to look at his brother directly in the eye. Years ago, he held his twelve-year-old brother’s hand, and swore in front of his parents’ grave, that he would give only the best to his brother for this lifetime, and would never wrong his brother. Yet he had fallen for the woman that his brother loved, and even had a child with her, even wanted to take her for his own shamelessly.
The winds of the dark night filled the entire room, after a long while, Emerson finally closed the windows, wanting to see his woman and his son. When he passed by the nightstand, he took a random glance, and his brows furrowed suddenly.
