Bently quickly added, “I heard some commotion when I came in. I think missus is upset.”
With his hands in the pockets, Ewan walked towards Bently and leaned against the table. He said slowly with an emotionless tone, “Regarding my marriage with Rachel, apart from Sienna and those people in my military compound, no one else knows. But Rachel said that my grandfather already knows about it.”
Bently was puzzled, “Master Ewan, what are you implying?”
Ewan emphasized sternly, “It doesn’t bother me, but Rachel is extremely worried that the family would find out about this. I don’t want her to worry about this. So next time be cognizant of this.”
“Yes Sir,” Bently replied immediately.
“Additionally, investigate how my grandfather found out about this.” Ewan squinted his eyes with suspicion.
“Could it be Miss Sienna who leaked this, after all, she…”
“It can’t be her.” Ewan interrupted and determined decisively, “She is a very intelligent woman and will not do something as silly as this. If she wants others to know this, it will never be directly from her.”
Bently’s eyes lit up as he said anxiously, “Master Ewan, are you saying that someone close to you is reporting your actions to Old Master Hill?”
Ewan smirked slightly, walked towards the balcony, and looked at the sun. He said affectionately, “Although grandfather is old, he still wishes to control the fate of everyone in the Hill family. He is already eighty and he still holds the authority of the family business. He has always been very ambitious.”
Bently raised his hand like a scout’s honor and swore nervously, “I, Bently, pledge to be fully loyal to Master Ewan without any reservations.”
Ewan said coldly and calmly, “Okay, I trust you.”
Bently sighed in relief, “Thanks Master Ewan.”
This was cold comfort. Apart from himself, Ewan doesn’t trust anyone completely. This was his extremely cautious personality.
The time was eleven-thirty.
Ewan had finished his work and walked out with Bently from the study.
The people in the living hall looked toward Ewan.
Sienna stood up, gently smiled at Ewan, and said sweetly, “Good afternoon, Ewan.”
Ewan’s reaction was muted, he looked at her coldly, and said, “Hi.”
The muted and indifferent acknowledgment caused Sienna to smile awkwardly.
Sophie stood politely and said to Bently, “Adjutant, do have lunch with us before you leave.”
Bently replied respectfully and politely, “Thanks madam, I have work to attend to. I won’t stay for lunch.”
“You need to eat anyway and surely you can do those work later.” Sophie was very hospitable.
Bently appeared uneasy, “I really need to go, thanks for the offer.”
Ewan said nonchalantly and helped Bently resolve the unwanted invitation, “Go ahead and do what you need to.”
“Yes, Sir.” Bently acknowledged the order and promptly left.
Since Ewan had dismissed Bently and Sophie could not continue to insist that he stayed. The awkward moment passed and she smiled towards Ewan and said, “Ewan, Sienna would like to stay for a few days in our house. Keep her company if you are free and be a good host.”
Ewan glared towards Sienna and involuntarily frowned. He doesn’t have anything against Sienna. After all, this woman had once saved his life. He also said that although he wouldn’t marry her, he will repay her for saving him.
Why was she staying in the Hill residence at this critical moment?
His relationship with Rachel had just improved a little and it was obvious that her visit wasn’t that straightforward.
Before Ewan could say anything, Sienna said, “Auntie, Ewan is busy with work. He doesn’t need to look after me. I can take care of myself. Don’t go out of your way for me.”
Sophie held onto Sienna’s hand and softly sighed, “It’s rare to find such a considerate girl like you.”
Sienna smiled silently and looked warmly at Sophie.
Erica sat with her arms folded, laughed, and teased, “Sis, you are about to get married to Ewan soon. Why are you so polite to your future husband?”
Sienna’s expression darkened and her smile dissipated. She looked sadly at Ewan as if she had a lot on her mind.
The sudden and drastic change of her expression caught Sophie’s attention.
Sophie frowned and intently observed Sienna. She asked warmly, “Sophie, what’s wrong?”
Sienna smiled bitterly and said to Erica, “Sister, please don’t keep bringing up the marriage. Please don’t mention something that is not cast in stone.”
Erica was stunned and felt as uneasy as Sophie and looked anxiously at Ewan.
Ewan walked past the living hall and stopped. His handsome but cold expression disregarded everyone as he said, “We won’t be getting married anymore.”
“You…” Erica stood up in anger and bit on her lower lip as she held back her words.
Sienna grabbed her sister’s hand to prevent her from erupting and looked at her with begging eyes while shaking her head, signaling to her not to act hastily and not to be angry.
Sophie’s expression changed suddenly and looked at Ewan in confusion. She asked, “You aren’t marrying Sienna? Are you kidding?”
“Do you think that I’m kidding?” Ewan was annoyed and looked at Sophie.
Sophie was stunned. From the various signs in the past, she suddenly understood what was the reason. She looked very upset and perturbed.
She was in deep thoughts for a long while. She interrogated, “Ewan, what’s wrong with Sophie? Which aspect of her is she unworthy of you?”
Ewan’s calm tone was laced with sarcasm, “Mom, why don’t you be more concerned for your own daughter? Sienna has her parents’ love and concern. Aren’t you tired?”
Sophie was stunned and speechless.
Her expression was very unpleasant; she was furious but she was unable to vent it. Ewan had a point and her position was clearly wrong.
Erica also couldn’t rebut Ewan and could only fume in anger.
Sophie remained silent and deeply troubled.
Erica tugged at Sophie’s dress and signaled to her to say something as an elder of the family. Sophie was in a dilemma as she looked back at Erica, who was clearly mad. Sophie then looked towards Sienna whose eyes were welling up with tears.
After a while, Sophie looked at Ewan and asked sternly, “Ewan, are you unwilling to marry Sienna because of Rachel?”
Before Ewan could say anything, Sienna interjected anxiously, “It has nothing to do with Rachel. Auntie, don’t blame Rachel, she… she … didn’t interfere with our relationship.”
Erica and Sophie’s expressions were extremely unpleasant at this point. They now know that Rachel was somehow involved.
Only Ewan could sense Sienna’s hidden message and she clearly did it on purpose.
Erica frowned and asked angrily, “Is Rachel really involved in this?”
