Sophie held her fist furiously, “I should’ve realized something wasn’t right here, this daughter of mine never let me have a peace of mind.”
Sienna lowered her head and remained silent. Her mood was so terrible that she actually looked pitiful.
Erica took Sophie’s hand and whispered, “Mom, I have something to tell you. Let’s go to the room.”
Sophie was having the thought to do so too. It seemed that there was something they did not want Ewan to hear about. Hence, they rushed directly into the room.
Only Sienna and Ewan were left in the living room.
Sienna kept her head down and was silent for a moment before she muttered, “I’m sorry, Ewan. Auntie Sophie seemed to suspect something. I didn’t mean to, I’ve tried my best to hide your secrets.”
Ewan squinted at Sienna with his fierce eyes and his tone were cold, “Well, you’ve indeed tried your best to hide things for Rachel. But you tried too hard, causing it to backfire.”
Sienna straightened up nervously and mist filled her eyes as she said, “I’m really sorry, Ewan. I wasn’t trying to make things difficult for Rachel. I didn’t mean to let everyone know about it. I…”
Ewan’s face was cold as stone. He stood up and said slowly, “It’s alright.”
“Ewan…”
Ewan ignored Sienna and strode out of the living room.
Sienna watched Ewan as he slowly disappeared in her lines of sight.
She could not help but hold her fist tightly. Her nails deeply poked against the flesh of her palm as her fist trembled slightly, and almost bled her lower lip.
She slowly took out her mobile phone and texted a message to be sent. Only then, her complexion recovered slightly.
…
Ewan left the living room and walked along the path of North Garden towards the ancestral hall.
At that moment, he constantly had a bad feeling about something. In order to take Rachel out of this place, he needed to find what he wanted as soon as possible.
In the quiet garden, the bright sunshine sprinkled the entire ground, and the flowers were in full bloom.
There were beautiful sceneries everywhere.
Not far ahead of the ancestral hall, Ewan suddenly stiffened his feet and stood in an open position. Then, he slowly closed his eyes and listened carefully.
The sun shined on Ewan. He took a deep breath and kept his mind in peace.
He could not hear any sound.
That night, Rachel heard some noises in the exact position where Ewan stood, and she was frightened by the noises made.
He listened for a long time.
There was still no sound, hence Ewan slowly opened his eyes and continued to walk towards the ancestral hall.
“Let me out… out… out…”
At the graveyard, a vague sound caught Ewan’s attention and he immediately stopped walking. His heart slightly trembled for two seconds.
The sound was as light as the thin air. It was faintly discernible, which Ewan thought at first was merely a hallucination.
He quickly turned and looked around. The surroundings were filled with all kinds of flowers which were not covered at all, and there was still a little distance from the ancestral hall. Hence, he was certain that the sound he heard earlier was not from the ancestral hall.
The sun was very warm, yet the sound was vague.
Ewan put his hands in his pockets and frowned. He looked around with his eyes narrowed, creating a vertical wrinkle between his eyebrows.
Things seemed to be much more complicated than he imagined.
Ewan observed for a long time, but the vague sound was nowhere to be found.
Eventually, Ewan went to the ancestral hall to look for the mysterious place Rachel had mentioned before.
However, he found nothing.
By then, it was night.
Rachel came out of the police academy and stood by the roadside to grab a taxi back home.
She took out her cell phone and switched it on.
There was no sound coming from Rachel’s phone, so she felt a little disappointed.
Rachel only charged her phone bill once every two months, not because she charged more money, but that she had no one to call. Even if she switched off her phone every day, it had no effect against her.
But things were different now; she looked forward to receive Ewan’s calls.
After playing with her phone for a short while, she took a deep breath and put it into her backpack.
The neon lights in the city were bright, and the traffic lights on the road illuminated the whole ground.
When she saw a taxi coming in a distance, she stretched out her hand and waved.
Suddenly, a black van overtook the taxi and stopped right in front of Rachel.
Before Rachel could react, the van’s door was opened. Hands immediately were stretched out from the black van and dragged her vigorously into the van.
Rachel struggled with fear, but two men covered in black pulled her into the van with all their might.
“Bang!” The door was closed.
In the dark van, Rachel struggled with fear as she was afraid. She was already forced into the van by those two strong men before she could take a clear look at their appearances.
This series of action happened smoothly in a blink of an eye.
“Save…” She screamed for help. Before she could finish her words, a cloth with a particularly pungent smell instantly covered her mouth.
Desperate muffled voices were the only sound the gag allowed as she tried to seek for help.
Rachel’s consciousness begun to drift away. She slowly closed her eyes, and her vague eyes could only focus on the swaying yellow colored triangular amulet hanging before the front mirror.
Her body felt very weak. Two drops of tears overflowed the corner of her eyes. Her mind was completely blank as fear gripped her heart.
At last, she fell into unconsciousness.
When Rachel regained her consciousness, she felt a dull pain in her head.
She slowly opened her eyes and slightly moved her body. She felt her hands and feet were all tied up, and she was in an extremely dark place.
She was kidnapped?
The thought that first appeared in her mind made her feel uneasy.
The air was filled with pungent smell, causing the airflow to be stuffy.
This dark place had no presence of light at all.
Where exactly was she at?
Rachel tried to scream but she could not make any sound because her mouth was gagged.
She could not tell whether it was day or night.
After she had calmed down, she tried to sit up slowly with the strength of her body.
She closed her eyes to let her body rest and kept her mind as calm as possible.
Time passed by, minute by minute.
All of a sudden, she heard a faint sound as though the sound was produced by an iron gate.
It was then the sounds made by steady footsteps.
And not just the footstep of one, but the footsteps of at least three men.
She opened her eyes, but it was still too dark for her to see any shadows.
However, she felt that these people were less than a meter in front of her. She was sure that there was nothing covering her eyes at that time, but this place was as dark as hell.
There should be water on the ground ahead, because she heard the sound of someone stepping in the puddle of water.
In the dark, she saw several red spots stopped in midair. If she had guessed correctly, they were wearing night vision goggles, because these red spots were the source of the night vision goggles.
Rachel could feel every single pound in her chest. Her palms were sweating and she calmly adjusted her breathing.
Suddenly, someone approached her and tore the tape on her mouth.
She felt a little pain but her mouth was not sealed anymore. She did not utter a word because she wasn’t sure where she was at that moment. Most importantly, she wasn’t sure if the other person was a good guy who came to save her life or the bad guy who had kidnapped her earlier.
She did not act rashly to ensure her own safety.
Rachel waited calmly for him to speak, so that she could get to know his intention first.
If he wanted her to die in the first place, there was no need for him to wait until she woke up. Hence, there must be a reason behind this.
The air was getting more and more stuffy here, until a gruff and husky voice uttered, “Hey, sweetie. Don’t be afraid, I will not hurt you.”
