Ewan smiled coldly and let go of her face. He shook his other hand vigorously and Rachel was thrown directly to the ground as his action was ruthless and fierce.
Rachel fell down on the ground and rubbed her hands against the cold and moist ground. The pain of piercing and tearing came from the palm and fingertips to the heart.
Her tears could not help but welled up in her eyes and ran down her cheeks.
Her pants were wet and it was so chill as if she fell on the bottom of the ice pit. The pain felt like millions of toxic maggots were corroding her whole heart little by little.
She was too painful to move.
Ewan’s ruthless and icy voice came over her head like a sharp blade piercing her broken heart.
“A woman like you never keeps promises, let alone a word of truth. If you dare to treat my words as nonsense, I will make you rubbish.”
After throwing the ruthless words, Ewan turned and left without hesitation.
Rachel slowly supported her body to get up after listening to the footsteps that were far away. The palms were worn out and mixed with mud and sand. The blood overflowed and her heart hurt.
She did not care about the injury on her hands but looked towards Ewan’s direction that was far away with tearful eyes.
The cold back was still so distant as usual. The mist blurred her sight and she could not tell whether it was her tears or rain.
He said that she did not keep her promise, but when did he keep his?
Ewan, who vowed to protect her for the rest of his life and would not let her hurt during their childhood, was the one who hurt her the most now.
The rain had not stopped. It got bigger instead.
The sky was not clear. It was getting darker and darker as if it was about to collapse and the whole world was extremely dark.
Rachel’s mood was worse than the weather. She took a taxi back to Hill’s house.
Without her mother by her side, she did not know whose arms she could seek for comfort. She went back to Hill’s house alone and hid in the room to comfort herself quietly.
In the evening, her stepmother Erin called her. She was in a daze, and so she did not have the mood to deal with Erin. She knew that Erin called her, just to scold her again and that she wanted her to be responsible for Leah’s imprisonment.
Leah’s sentence had increased from 45 days to half a year, which she did not expect.
Erin put all the faults on Rachel and yelled at the phone. She threatened her to settle the case.
She was lying on the bed like a walking dead puppet with no soul and heart, and listening to Erin’s verbal abuse calmly until she was tired of scolding and hung up the phone.
The cold wind blew in from the balcony and the rain outside had not stopped yet.
“Knock. Knock.”
The door was knocked.
Rachel did not move at all.
“Knock…”
After waiting for a long time, Rachel still did not move. The door was pushed open, and Kate’s voice came from the door, “Ms. Rachel, Ms. Rachel…”
When Kate came in, she could not help but shuddered. She hurriedly walked in and murmured anxiously, “Oh my god, Ms. Rachel, aren’t you cold? The wind on the balcony is so strong and it is raining outside. You open the window without cover yourself with the quilt…”
Kate was nagging while closing the balcony window and curtains. She found that Rachel was still lying without moving on the bed when she turned around.
Kate ran to the edge of the bed anxiously and looked down at her face. She found that Rachel’s eyes were dull and full of tears. She was distressed, “Ms. Rachel, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell?”
Rachel slowly closed her eyes without saying a word.
Kate continued saying, “If Ms. Rachel doesn’t feel unwell, please go to north garden as Old Master Hill ordered.”
Rachel took a deep breath and moved her hands when she heard of Old Master Hill. Kate suddenly screamed and grasped Rachel’s hand, “Oh, Ms. Rachel, how come your hands have blood?”
Rachel pulled out her hand and said lightly, “I’m fine.”
“Your clothes are also wet, you…” Kate looked worried.
Rachel ignored it and got up from the bed. She dragged her exhausted footsteps into the bathroom.
In the north garden.
The magnificent living room was luxurious. Unlike the south garden, it was more retro.
There were many valuable antiques everywhere, and the furniture was a classic series. The series consisted more classical and extravagant elements which were all less modern.
Old Master Hill lived with his second son, Charles because Robert divorced and married Rachel’s mother without announced to anyone, which made him furious.
Although he had accepted Sophie and Rachel, it did not mean that he agreed with his eldest son, Robert’s approach.
In the family meeting room of north garden.
An eighty-year-old man with white and silver hair was sitting in the middle. He was dignified and steady through the vicissitude of his age. His noble temperament could not cover his powerful aura.
On the left was the eldest son Robert Hill’s family. The eldest grandson: Luke and Erica Parker, and third grandson: Ewan.
On the right was the second son Charles Hills family. The youngest grandson: James, and the youngest granddaughter: Eliza.
Everyone sat quietly and waited for Old Master Hill to speak but he held off speaking. Eliza smiled anxiously and asked coldly, “Grandpa, aren’t you the one who want to hold a family meeting? Why don’t you start?”
“People are not all there yet.” Old Master Hill answered lightly.
Eliza glanced at everyone and leaned on the back of the chair with her arms folded. Her face became gloomy, “All that can be here have arrived. Who else hasn’t come?”
Old Master Hill remained silent and continued to wait.
The butler in north garden went to open the door and greeted politely when the bell rang, “Ms. Rachel, please come in.”
Before Rachel stepped into the door, Eliza was already mad. She stood up suddenly and said impulsively at the whole family, “I’m sorry, I don’t want to participate in this family meeting. I can’t sit with my enemy’s daughter to have a family meeting.”
“Sit down.” Old Master Hill gave an order and his majestic was inviolable.
Charles also pulled his daughter’s arm and whispered, “Listen to your grandpa. Sit down and stop making trouble.”
Eliza shook off her father’s hand violently. The corner of her lips twitched, and she asked Charles back, “Dad, you are enough! Rachel White’s mother killed my mum! How could I sit with her?”
Rachel heard Eliza’s words from the door. This elder sister who was about her age had always been disliked her and went against her.
Eliza hated her even more now because of her mother.
Robert’s face changed and he said coldly, “Eliza, the murderer you mentioned is also my wife, so I also can’t sit with you, can I?”
Eliza smiled anxiously, “Uncle, this is different. You are victim just like me.”
Robert was speechless by his niece’s fallacies.
Rachel walked in slowly, stood at the side of Old Master Hill, and bowed slowly, “Hi, grandpa.”
Then, she bowed politely to everyone.
Old Master Hill smiled and his face became kind, “Rachel, sit down.”
Eliza clenched her fist, kicked off the chair to go out. Old Master Hill scolded, “Sit down.”
Eliza pointed at Rachel’s face angrily and looked down at Old Master Hill, asking furiously, “Why does Grandpa have to ask an outsider to come to our family meeting? Her surname is White, not Hill.”
