Rachel came out of the south garden and dashed directly to the north garden.
Although Ewan agreed to save her mother, she cannot simply sit around and wait. She did not have the patience to do that.
The caretaker of the north garden told her that the two servants had resigned.
Rachel left the Hill residences after she obtained the telephone numbers and addresses of the two servants.
As soon as Rachel walked out of the gates of the villa she was met by a middle-aged couple. Rachel stopped in her steps as she looked at the familiar couple with mixed feelings. They were her father and stepmother.
They looked sullen and upset. As Rachel walked nearer, she was the first to speak, “Dad, mom, are you here to look for me?”
They didn’t reply. Jordan was silent but Erin started the conversation, “The police informed us that Leah didn’t take drugs. What I don’t understand is why did the police want to hold her for 45 days? I heard that Ewan’s appointment is very senior. Go and convince your brother to release Leah.”
What an aggressive tone she was using to seek her help! Rachel pursed her lips and laughed bitterly.
Detained for 45 days? If she wasn’t mistaken, she was charged for solicitation and that was already a very light sentence. Aren’t they contented with that?
Before Rachel could say anything, Erin pushed Rachel’s shoulders impatiently, “Hey, did you hear me?”
Rachel staggered backward and almost fell from the push. She frowned at Erin and said calmly, “She should serve out the sentence since she had committed an offense. 45 days isn’t a long time. She should take the time to reflect on her mistakes and let the people inside educate her. That’s not a bad thing for her.”
Erin was furious and pointed her scarlet painted nails at Rachel’s forehead. She clenched her teeth as she scolded, “You heartless creature. Regardless, Leah is your half-sister and both of you are blood related, how can you stand aside and not help her? You are literally…”
Rachel slapped her finger away and took a step back. She took a deep breath before saying, “Leah had done something that she shouldn’t have, she…”
Rachel stopped herself.
If she had said that Leah sold her body in search of glory, this woman, who doted on her younger daughter, wouldn’t believe her anyway.
Jordan spoke out in frustration, “Perhaps others don’t know that C country’s well known General Ewan is one of the Hill family. But I know that Ewan is considered your brother in name. Is it so difficult for you to do a favor for your sister? She is your sister and is now suffering in jail. Have you no compassion at all?”
Rachel felt amused that this couple would scold her to the extent of accusing her of being so selfish that she wouldn’t lift a finger to help her sister.
Erin continued angrily, “What had Leah done to cause you to be so heartless towards her?”
Jordan also said furiously, “If you are unwilling to help in this, then this will be the end of our relationship as father and daughter.”
Rachel looked at Jordan in surprise.
She had never received any fatherly love from him and now he was using the termination of their relationship as a threat because of Leah?
What was amusing was they thought too highly of Rachel. To Ewan, she was as insignificant as dust. So how could he help her unconditionally?
At this moment the large iron gate opened and a military jeep drove out.
Erin immediately reacted and grabbed Rachel’s arm, forcing her to flag down the vehicle.
Erin started to wave and bow towards the vehicle. All the while they were smiling humbly and respectfully.
Dane French turned and looked at Ewan who was seated behind and said, “Master Ewan, Ms. Rachel, and a middle-aged woman are blocking the way.”
Ewan frowned and when he looked up, his window was already being tapped by someone.
He wound down the window and an elderly lady with thick makeup smiled at him.
“Master Ewan, how do you do? I’m Rachel’s stepmother. That means that we’re relatives. I’m so sorry to disturb you today. Rachel’s sister had been inexplicably arrested and given a 45-days jail sentence. Rachel is very close to her sister. She would like to seek your help…”
Erin said a lot and tried to play the ‘relative card’.
Rachel was forcibly grabbed to her side and she could only look calmly at the lofty man within the vehicle.
The heavens were so unfair to give this man such perfect looks but didn’t grant him a compassionate heart.
In his presence, it felt like the entire world had entered into an ice age.
Erin continued, “… Rachel is your sister in name and Leah is Rachel’s sister. This means that Leah is also your sister. Can Master Ewan help us out on behalf of Rachel? This should be considered a small matter to you.”
Ewan sat expressionlessly and motionlessly even after all that had been said. He calmly looked ahead but he didn’t instruct the driver to drive.
Erin guessed that he was waiting for Rachel to speak. In her anxiousness, she pinched Rachel’s arm and said softly, “Plea for Leah.”
Rachel frowned and pulled her arm away in pain. She bit her lip and glared at Erin furiously for what she had done.
But what could she do other than to return the pinch?
When she moved back to the White family, she talked back to Erin rudely and was severely beaten by her father. The feeling of that pain was still fresh in her memories.
Although she wasn’t willing to help Leah, she pleaded anyway, “Ewan, please help Leah.”
Erin immediately nodded, “Yes yes, please help our Leah.”
Ewan tilted his head and looked at Rachel with his sharp and piercing eyes. Erin was looking intently and eagerly waiting for his agreement. He said calmly and coldly, “Dane, inform them to check carefully if Leah has any other offenses. 45 days are too light of a sentence. They need to increase the punishment.”
Erin’s expression changed immediately and standing just a meter away, Jordan was totally dumbfounded. The outcome was totally unexpected and they were unable to accept it.
Both of them stood stunned in disbelief.
“Yes Sir.” Dane immediately took out his cell phone to make a call.
Rachel already knew that this man would not help but she didn’t expect things to turn out this bad.
Looking at Ewan’s alluring eyes, Rachel felt as if she fell into a dark and icy hole that was chilling and bottomless.
She never could guess what he was thinking and why he hated her so much.
Ewan asked nonchalantly, “Do you have anything else to plea to me about?”
This question was a huge sarcasm. How would Rachel dare to plea for anything else?
How would she dare to?
She pleaded for him to save her mother and he was now in unknown trouble.
Now a simple request turned into a big mistake. She struggled to smile and she didn’t dare to make eye contact with the lofty and profound man.
“No” she answered softly.
