Kara noticed that James wasn’t in a good mood and thus didn’t dare to refute.
When Kara heard that James was going to call Will, she gripped James’ phone tightly.
“James, I’m okay. We don’t have to go to the hospital.”
James’s face darkened. He cast a sideways glance at Kara.
“Kara, are you provoking me?” James spoke in a harsh tone.
“No, I didn’t mean that,” Kara said. Kara wanted to explain, but James didn’t give her any chance.
“If not, then shut up!”
James snatched his phone from Kara and called Will. However, Will was not in the hospital. Will had worked for several days in a row and was now taking a rest at home. Thus Will felt a bit helpless as he received James’ call.
“It’s too late now. If it’s not serious, I’ll go to the hospital to give her a check tomorrow.”
James frowned. James wasn’t an unreasonable man. He was just worried about Kara.
Kara heard Will’s words and snatched James’ phone back.
“Uncle Will, I’ve just caught a cold. The wind was too strong last night. It’s nothing serious. If I don’t feel any better tomorrow, I will go to the hospital. Sorry to disturb you, Uncle Will. You can have a rest now.”
It was just a cold, and Kara felt there was no need to cause Will any bother.
Before Will could respond, Kara hung up the phone, held James’ phone behind her, and jumped off the bed.
“James, I’m okay. Don’t worry.”
James gritted his teeth and squinted his eyes. “Give me my phone.”
“No.”
Kara shook her head and ran away to dodge James.
James licked his teeth. He could easily catch Kara.
James ran in front of Kara and stopped her. He grabbed Kara’s arm, pulled Kara into his arms, and tried to get his phone back.
“James, I have a stomachache!”
“What’s the matter?”
The look on James’ face changed. He let go of Kara’s arm and stooped to check on her.
At the moment, Kara got out of James’ arms, opened the door, and ran out.
James was rendered speechless.
James clenched his fists and then unclenched them. He gritted his teeth for he hadn’t expected Kara to play such tricks.
However, when James realized all that was because he had spoiled Kara, he couldn’t say anything more.
“Kara, my dear, please give me my phone.”
James searched around on the second floor but didn’t find Kara. When James heard some noise coming from the first floor, he went downstairs into the kitchen.
“Kara, what are you doing?”
“I want to make some ginger soup.”
Kara thought if she didn’t go to the hospital, she should at least have some ginger soup.
James stood by the door, watching Kara fluttering about in the kitchen. Kara searched on the Internet with James’ phone for what gingers looked like. After getting the answer, Kara looked around and found a piece of ginger. Then she started to search for how to cook ginger soup.
First, she had to wash the ginger clean and cut it in half.
Kara pursed his lips and looked at the ginger which had already been washed. Then she went about to find a kitchen knife.
After getting the knife, Kara started to cut the ginger on the marble. James frowned, walked to Kara, and took the kitchen knife from her.
“Kara, the knife should be used together with the chopping board. Don’t you know that?”
“Oh, really? I forgot that. They said the ginger should be cut into small pieces. How large should each piece be?”
Kara scratched her head helplessly and stared at the ginger in her hand, her head tilting.
James took a deep breath, spread the apron out on the marble counter, and put Kara on the apron.
“Sit here. I’ll make it for you.”
“Do you know how to make it?”
Kara was surprised. She hadn’t expected that James could cook.
“Yes.”
James didn’t say much, and he just cut the ginger into neat cubes. James was rather skilled in using knives.
James boiled a pot of hot water, put the ginger pieces into the pot, and covered the pot with its lid.
Then he found some green onions, washed them, cut them into pieces, put them into the pot, and turned to look for brown sugar.
The water was boiling, and when the brown sugar was put in, the water turned brown.
James wanted to have a taste, but then he realized that he had no sense of taste. He frowned slightly, opened the refrigerator, and took out some fruits.
Kara was dazzled by James’ movements. She searched on the Internet with James’ phone and knew that what James was cooking was called green onion ginger soup.
She also learned that the soup could treat and prevent colds.
Ten minutes later, James felt the temperature of the soup with his mouth and handed it to Kara.
“It’s great to have a boyfriend.”
Kara laughed and kissed James on the face. But when Kara picked up the bowl, her face creased.
Kara gritted her teeth and finished the soup in one gulp.
“Does it taste that bad?”
Seeing Kara’s furrowed brows, James frowned.
“Yes, it tastes terrible!”
Kara never hid anything when she talked to James.
James kissed Kara on the lips and brought the fruit salad to her.
The fruit salad was made of watermelon, cantaloupe, and sweet pomegranates. The fruits had been peeled and cut into pieces so that they were ready to be eaten.
“James! Do you know how to make this?”
Kara hurriedly stuffed a few pieces of watermelon into her mouth. Then she picked up a few pieces of cantaloupe and put them into her mouth.
James didn’t respond to the question. He touched Kara’s forehead and asked seriously, “Can you feel warm sweat on your back?”
Kara nodded.
Then James carried Kara out of the kitchen with one hand and held the fruit salad with the other hand. They came to the sofa in the living room.
James placed Kara on the sofa and covered Kara with a thin blanket. Kara rubbed her face against James’ arm and nestled her head against James’ legs.
“James, how do you know how to take care of a patient?”
James touched the back of Kara’s neck. Feeling the warm sweat on Kara’s neck, James felt relieved.
The look in James’ eyes softened as James heard Kara’s question.
“When I studied abroad, I didn’t want too many people to meddle in my life, so I lived alone.
“I took care of myself. I cooked for myself, and to complete the social practice assignment, I used to work part-time in a restaurant.”
Kara was shocked. She hadn’t expected such a wealthy boy as James to work in the restaurant.
“Can you manage that?” Kara asked.
James smiled and tapped Kara’s nose. “No one is born to know everything. When I started to work there, I broke plates and was scolded by the boss several times.
“Then I would try a few more times. With my intelligence, the work was nothing difficult to me.”
Kara visualized James in the waiter’s suit. “He must be very handsome then!” she thought.
James rarely talked about his past, so Kara was quite interested when he talked about it.
“Then what happened after that?” Kara asked.
“After working in the restaurant for a week, I surveyed the customers in the restaurant and made the statistics a system of data. Then I found the president of the catering company and handed in my report, which won his praise.
“Then I got a scholarship, and at the same time, I made adjustments to their management system and got a considerable commission.
“In the end, I bought the catering company.”
Kara was rendered speechless.
The turn of the story caught Kara unawares. She blinked and was a bit stunned.
It was until then that Kara learned that James also started playing minor roles before he achieved the position he was now in.
Suddenly, Kara felt that James was no longer that mysterious.
“Don’t you believe me?” James asked.
Kara blinked, looking quite innocent.
“No. It’s just that I haven’t seen you working in the restaurant. That’s a real pity.”
James had no idea what Kara meant.
“Why does she want to see me working in the restaurant?” James thought.
“James, I haven’t known what you looked like when you were young,” Karla said regretfully.
“Do you mean I’m old now?”
Karla didn’t know what to say.
