Let’s Dance

Soon after that, I saw my mom heading towards us with her own plate of food.
“Snow, do you want chocolate-?” She blinked at me, then looked at Luke from beside me once she noticed him, “Why hello there handsome… You must be Luke, I suppose?” Mom said, sitting right beside me, while Luke was on my left.
Luke broke into a grin seeing my mother, “Hi, Mrs. Waterstrings. Yes, I am Luke. It’s a pleasure to meet you,” He said before complimenting her with, “You’re so beautiful that I thought you were her sister at first.”
Ooh, so he’s charming my mother?
I didn’t know how mom believed him, who was now laughing along with Luke.
When she finally recovered from it, she then said, “Now, enough of those niceties. Just call me Aunt Evy since you two are in a relationship,” she said. A look of shock was evident on my flushed face. I really had enough blushing on this day.
“Mom… We aren’t. Yet… He was courting me first,” I informed her in a low voice, really shy now.
“Well, things are going there,” she shrugged and talked to Nathan. I saw Luke was blushing slightly and we ate in silence.
“Hey, lovebirds!” Greeted a loud voice from behind us.
“Hey, guys!” Luke greeted them back.
I turned around and saw that it was Hannah and Emma booming behind us. “Hey, Mrs. Waterstrings,” Mom nodded in acknowledgment and smiled at them.
“Hey, brother!” Hannah said to Luke, slurping while Emma grabbed my hand, almost tripping me, “Snow, come let’s dance!”
“Guys, are you drunk? It’s still early for that,” I said, spooning a chocolate cake to my mouth. I melted at the taste. Heaven…
“Oh Snow, what a boomer,” Emma said, playfully sticking her tongue at me, before tripping back to the dance floor and disappearing from our sight. Everyone was having fun, while me and Luke were sitting here, eating and filling our stomachs with food.
“Hey guys!” said a voice somewhere. I looked behind and saw Leroy and the two were walking towards us.
“Hey Snow, Hey man.” Said Dax and I couldn’t help but glance at Eion beside him who just nodded his head in the direction of Luke, glancing at me briefly before diverting his gaze. I decided to just leave it for a while. Just then, the song changed.
“Good morning and goodnight
I wake up at twilight
It’s gonna be alright
We don’t even have to try
It’s always a good time.”
Good time by Owl City ft. Carly Rae Jepsen blasted through the speakers. Yeah, just like the song says, it’s a good time. I bobbed my head to the tune, lost from the song.
“So you guys don’t want to dance?” asked Leroy. I looked at Luke, raising my eyebrows.
“Later,” he replied while glancing at me, I nodded my head. Well, it’s not a problem, I’ll just eat.
“Okay, bye then, we’ll go to the dance floor,” Dax said and was walking away. I spotted Emma and Hannah in the crowd, dancing and laughing. They were motioning for me to come. I was tempted but I’ll finish my food first.
Food should always come first, right?
Once I was finished, the lights suddenly turned off and the song started slowing down and the mood changed into a romantic night.
“Snow, why don’t you dance with Luke?” asked Mom, drinking champagne. Nathan was nowhere, probably playing with the other kids.
“We’re fine mom, we’ll dance later,” I said. After eating different kinds of food and resting for minutes, I think it is the best time to dance. I saw how Luke was just glancing at me, checking if I already finished my food or not before asking me to dance since he ate faster than me.
Awww, what a gentleman… He offered me his hand, raising his eyebrows with a mocking expression on his face.
“Can I have this dance?” he asked, smirking and I played along.
“Of course,” I said and we stood up. We head to the crowd on the dance floor, looking for the girls and the guys.
I bumped into someone and through the crowd, I somehow lost Luke. Oh shit. Where is Luke!? Cursing under my breath, I tried to look around, squishing my way from the others and apologizing to them.
Another party song was blasting through the speakers and I saw that the DJ was moving his head to the beat.
“Snow!” Emma shouted when she saw me. I sighed in relief, quickly walking towards her. I noticed she was dancing without her heels now, completely barefoot. “Come dance with us!”
Hannah appeared out of nowhere, slurping, “Btw, did you like the song, Snow? I requested it,” she said. So that explains why Aunt Maggie’s reception became like a teenage party, not a formal one…
Finally, Luke appeared out of nowhere, smiling at me, “There you are Snow! Where were you?”
“I got lost in the crowd, sorry,” I yelled in answer for him to hear me through the deafening song played from the speakers.
“What a boomer Luke!” Hannah piped in, slurping.
Luke’s eyes widened at her, then gasped, “Hannah, mom will kill you! It’s still early-” but Hannah cut him off.
“Oh shush brother… mom wouldn’t know,” she said, smirking. Luke wasn’t able to protest any further as he just sighed and mumbled something.
“Hannah, What happened to your heels?” I asked her, noticing her and even Emma not wearing any.
“Pshh, those are hurting us so we removed them. Take yours off too!” she said, almost jumping from the beat of the song. I did as she told me and felt comfortable.
“Comfortable?”
Luke raised his eyebrows beside me. I nodded. Together with the girls and Luke beside me, we danced, made weird moves, laughed, and enjoyed each other’s company. It didn’t take long for Leroy and Dax to appear and join in the fun.
Dax offered his hand to Emma, Emma being drunk and accepted. I’m sure she’ll regret it tomorrow since I remember that they were still fighting.
Leroy also copied Dax, asked Hannah to dance and Hannah gladly accepted it. Well, good thing that these two are finally progressing further. I am happy for her.
Looking around, I feel like we’re missing something. Someone….
Oh, right. Eion… He was nowhere to be found. Hmm since he doesn’t want loud places like these, perhaps he had gone somewhere where it’s quiet, hanging out with himself.
There was one thing that was bugging me for a while now… Why did I even expect Eion to dance with me? And worse, I had hoped for it. Shaking my head, I decided to ignore it and just enjoy the night.
