The Date

Book:His Winter Heart Published:2024-5-1

I woke up with a smile on my face later that morning. Luke texted me last night, saying that he will take me to the park today.
It’s a date.
It’s not Snow. Stop dreaming.
Besides, we agreed that we will tag along with Nathan and Caleb. So it’s not.
It’s Sunday and I have no work today. Yawning, I look for my phone to check my social media account. Noticing that there’s no difference happening in these past few hours, I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. After doing my morning routine, I went downstairs to eat.
“Morning mom!” I greeted her with a big smile on my face.
“Morning sweetie,” she said. Grabbing utensils, I served myself and sat beside Nathan. I ruffled his hair playfully and ate.
I was in the middle of eating when Mom noticed. “Hmmm, you’re blooming today.” I gulped down my food first before replying.
“Mom? What are you talking about? I’m always blooming.” I said innocently.
“Snow, I’m your mom, I know all about you. Now, answer. Why?” She asked, wanting me to spill it. Guess I don’t have a choice but to tell her.
“Err… Luke and I… are going to the park today.” I said nervously.
She raised her eyebrows at that, “You’re going on a date with Luke?”
I blushed. “Well, it’s not. We’re not… I mean, mom, it is not a date.” I corrected her, stuttering. Just hearing the word ‘date’ made me red as a tomato.
“Hmm….” She hummed, giving me a look.
“Don’t worry mom, he’ll drive me there so don’t worry I won’t disturb you… And besides, we’ll be back by noon… Is that okay?” I asked nervously.
“Okay.” She said,
I blinked at that, confirming it again, “Okay? You agree?” I ask hopefully, happiness building up inside me.
She nodded. “Luke is a good boy, so I think he will take good care of you. And I want you to have fun. Other girls are out there on the beach and you are stuck here, working in an ice cream shop. It’s the last thing I can do.”
“Yes! Thank you, mom!” I said excitedly while hugging her then stopped, “But mom, can I please take Nathan with me?”
Mom nodded, “Oh sure. Just take good care of him.”
Hearing this, I looked at Nathan in front of me, “Did you hear that Nate-nate? You’ll be going to the park with me and Luke!” I said to him, Hearing this made him break into an excited grin.
“Yey! To the park!” He exclaimed, then stopped, “But who’s Luke?”
I laughed, oh right. I haven’t properly introduced them, I thought he’ll know him instantly since he had seen him a few times already. “You’ll know him later,” I said to him. “And I will leave you if you don’t finish your food faster.”
His eyes widened and began to spoon himself and eat voraciously.
Mom glared at me at the sight of Nathan. “Careful, Nate-Nate. You’ll get choked.” After finishing this food, he quickly went upstairs to dress.
“Slow down Nathan! You’ll trip!” Mom shouted. “Look at him, Snow. It’s your fault.” Mom scolded. I just shrugged and smiled innocently. After eating, I did my usual routine of cleaning the table and washing the dishes. After that, I went to my bedroom to get ready.
I was pacing around the room… What should I wear? What should I wear? Snow, it’s not like we were going to go on a fancy date. And this one is not, it’s just a hangout.
After debating with myself I finally decided to wear a simple crop top and some red flannel shirt and black skinny jeans, together with my converse shoes. Just as I was tying my shoe I heard the doorbell.
“Mom I’m going to get that!” I shouted. I quickly descended the stairs and opened the door.
“Hey,” Within the door, I saw that a handsome boy with green eyes and blonde hair appeared. He gave me his boyish smile and I melted right in the spot. Kidding. Luke was standing there in his plain shirt and some black pants. He really dresses in a simple style, but everything just suits him, and I caught myself staring at him so I quickly looked away.
“Uhm, Snow?” He asked and I was pulled from reality.
“Oh hey, Luke,” I said. I noticed his hands were on his back.
“I just wanted to give this to you.” He said and showed me what’s in his hands, and I saw that there was a rose on his hand.
I never imagined I’ll experience this. I thought it’s so cheesy like from the movies but now that I experienced it, I was speechless. I gently pick it up, careful not to destroy it.
“You like it?” He asked.
“I love it!” I exclaimed.
He laughed, “Good, you have to, cause I stole it from my neighbor’s garden and painted it red…”
I look at him incredulously. “What?” Figuring that he was only messing with me, I just shook my head.
“Kidding… But I personally took it from our garden.” He said, finally admitting it.
I smelled the rose on my hand, the scent of sweet fragrance it emits was enticing. I smiled and looked at Luke. He’s really sweet. It’s the first time that I feel like I’m really a woman, deserving some love.
“Now are we going to stand here or you’ll keep on gawking at me?” He asked, seeing me staring at him, and I playfully hit him in the arm.
Suddenly, a tiny voice broke us apart. “Enough of that romance!”
