THEME: Jaylen’s dilemma
MOON STONE FORTRESS
AT THE PACK HOUSE: ALPHA CARL CHAMBERS
“Well, well, well. Isn’t this a pleasant surprise. Who do we have here?” Carl tossed at Julius playfully as he walked into the Alpha’s chambers.
Julius smiled widely at his friend, surprised at how intact his sense of humor still was. “You make it seem like we haven’t seen in ages.”
Trying to hold onto his hand, Carl held on tightly despite being weak. “Everyday seem like a year for me now Julius.” He smiled weakly.
Not wanting to look sombre, Julius forced a grin on his face. “Just admit you have missed me so much ”
Carl nodded slowly. “I can’t lie about that either.”
They both burst out laughing, one louder and stronger than the other. Meagan walked in on the both of them and her eyes shone in delight at the sight of Julius.
“Hello Beta.” She greeted.
“Hi Luna Meagan.” Julius muttered in response.
Taking a seat next to her husband, Meagan read through Julius countenance. He looked on the edge like something was heavy on his heart which was rare to see. Julius always has a positive outlook to life. But she couldn’t be certain since everyone of them have become more recluse now that Carl’s death got nearer.
“Is something wrong Julius?” Carl inquired, also noticing his friend’s mood.
Julius sighed, worried on how and what he is meant to say exactly. If he had it in his power, he wouldn’t mention anything to Carl and Meagan considering how much they have had to endure in the past months. But what he had to say was just as important as any of the problems they are to tackle.
“Say something already Julius, you are scaring the shit out of me.” Meagan mused.
“It’s nothing that serious. Just needs to be attended to.” He responded.
“Let’s have it then.” Carl said, trying to adjust his sitting position.
Taking his time, Julius looked towards the door to ensure it was just the three of them. He doesn’t want any other person getting to know just yet.
“Do you know about Jaylen’s wolf?” He said in a tight whisper.
Carl looked at Meagan, Meagan did the same still not getting the whole point and they both directed their confused look towards Julius.
“What do you mean by that?” Meagan queried.
“Did you notice any difference in Jaylen’s wolf when the twins were younger?” Julius repeated.
“Oh that.” Meagan recalled. “Yes, Jaylen’s wolf was a bit meek and recluse. At that time we doubted the actuality of the prophecy, and since we didn’t know what exactly it did mean. We weren’t really bothered that his wolf looked so weak but now that the prophecy chose him, I guess he would have to make do with his wolf whichever way he can.”
“Actually Meagan, Jaylen’s wolf is a silver wolf with a white patch.” Julius announced with his heart beating in rhythm to the announcement.
Carl let out a strangled cough and Meagan looked towards him. “Sorry baby. But…but what is he talking about Carl?” She asked with a confused look on her face.
Still trying to hold himself together, Carl sat up a bit staring square faced at Julius. “How did you get to know this?”
“He went on a shifting race with Sebastian and the others last night.” He replied.
“Damn!” Carl hurled.
“Why are you both keeping me in darkness? Is something wrong with my son?” Meagan kept on with her voice shaky.
“It’s really nothing to worry about baby. It just implies that without the prophecy Jaylen is a natural born Alpha bestowed with the ability of clairvoyance and mind reading.” Carl explained.
Meagan looked shocked. “What? How come?”
“I was amazed when Sebastian told me about it. Now, my actual worry is that Jaylen has no idea of his ability and you know what happens if he is not well trained.” Julius added.
Carl sighed. “I do know that, but we are trying to not let Jaylen in on the part he has to play to keep the Fortress together yet. I am sure the moment he gets to know about it he would try to escape it at all means and leaving everyone in chaos.”
“You know he isn’t like that even though he has never been interested in the crown.” Meagan defended her son. “What the hell is going on? This is so annoying. The Moon Goddess is the only one aware of the games she is playing. A card of fate or whatever the seer calls it.” She hissed.
“Don’t talk like that baby, please.” Her husband pleaded.
“What’s going to happen to him now?” Meagan asked.
Julius looked towards Carl for his approval. Carl nodded. “He would go wild.”
“What do you mean by that?” She looked traumatized.
Julius explained. “If Jaylen can’t filter the things he ears or sees especially since he has no idea about what he is capable of doing. Then things will go south from here.”
“How does this even sound right?” Meagan lamented.
Carl kept quiet lost in his own pool of thought. Every time when he thinks it would be all over soon and he wouldn’t have to hear of his family probable down fall. It made him feel at ease. Now, having to hear all of these things only makes it even tough for him.
Jaylen has to be saved from not just his twin brother but from himself also. Carl felt guilty all over again. He had watched his son struggle to fit into the pack house and the Fortress as a whole after a decade. Having to deal with the coming future problems just makes it worse.
And Carl wished he could really do something. Being a natural Alpha born is considered a joyful thing as only one generation of werewolves amongst ten gets lucky to have such a unique wolf among them. However, most of them go into hiding and engage in rigorous training to avoid their enemies. And they gather a whole lot when their abilities gets known to the public.
“Why are you so quiet, Carl? Isn’t there a way to sort this out?” Meagan pestered him as tears streamed down her face.
“Go easy on him, Meagan, none of this is you both fault please.” Julius pleaded.
He wished badly that he could do something to ease their burden, as it was beginning to seem like too much to bear for them. No sane mind would not think of committing suicide with all the madness hovering around.
Carl reached out for his wife’s hand weakly. “I will do all I can to ensure our sons will come to a compromise. I promise.”
Meagan sniffed as wiping a tear off her face. “Forgive me for overreacting.”
“It was necessary to do so.” Carl assured, pulling her into his embrace. Looking towards his best friend, he sighed. “Please get me the Custodian Werewolf Book from the library. Also there is a need to call for a pack council meeting. I guess it is time to let all of this out.” He said authoritatively.
Julius stood up abruptly and bowed his head. “Right away.” He scampered out of the room in a hurry.
