EPISODE SIXTY THREE
THEME: A gift from a Goddess
MOON STONE FORTRESS
BETA JULIUS HOUSE
Julius gulped hard while Hazel stared mouth agape into space. Sebastian’s head remained bowed after he made the revelation.
History has it that most unique and powerful born Alphas are the ones bestowed upon with the patch on their forehead and it also reads that only such wolves have an odd color to their wolf. The few of them had stayed hidden in each generation over centuries. Knowing the kind of power they possess, they could get killed if they have counterparts struggling for the Alpha seat.
Silver wolves with white patches are the rarest of wolves. They possess not just the regular abilities of a wolf but they could read through minds and see far beyond. And their authority resonates all through the werewolf clans.
“Do you think he knows about this?” Hazel asked no one in particular.
“Jaylen has no idea what he possesses and who he would become.” Julius stated. “How did you get to know this, Seb?”
Sebastian sat up, looking straight at his parents. “Lorelei thought we should spend some time with him last night and make him feel at home. We indulged in shifting and running through the woods. I was with him when he shifted, I wouldn’t have known if I wasn’t there.”
Hazel scoffed. “Does this even make any sense? We all watched Jaylen and Jayden have their first shift.”
Julius shook his head in agreement. “Some natural born Alphas do not give off their identity at a young age. This one means that the Moon Goddess knew exactly what she was doing when she had let all odds turn against Jaylen. Now that I look at it, it was all to protect him.”
“What do we do now?” Sebastian asked.
Letting out a frustrated sigh, Julius leaned into the chair. “To think that we had prepared our mind for war between the brothers due to the impending prophecy. But judging by this new revelation, Jaylen is the rightful heir to the throne…prophecy or no prophecy. And there is a great need to watch out for Jaylen to prevent him from going wild.” He answered.
“Go wild?” Sebastian retorted with a confused look on his face.
“What do you mean dad?”
Sitting up, Julius folded his arms on the table. “Legend has it that, when an alpha wolf is unaware of his abilities, he becomes a problem to not just himself, but also the rest of the pack. Not getting trained on how to use his abilities, different thoughts of others would keep sifting through his portal and he wouldn’t be able to control it. Also his eyes would become too open, different sights of situations and future happenings would filter their way in and he can lose his mind if they keep coming and he is unable to control it.”
“Are you saying Jaylen has a clairvoyance ability?” Sebastian asked, this time impressed.
“Yes and also he can hear people’s thoughts. However, you do know he is unaware of his ability now but through training he would only use them when there is a very vital need to.”
Sebastian didn’t appear convinced. “Why must he be trained since he got the ability from the Moon Goddess?”
“Wolves who hear and see from beyond get their energies sapped when it is use at every chance gotten. And with every use of energy, it is replaced with the darkness of whatever they had heard and seen most especially the disasters they prevent. Being able to hear and see every disaster and preventing it would fill them up with darkness and make them go wild. As an Alpha with such ability, he can only use them when the pack is in dire need of it and also to fish out betrayers. It’s not meant to be used for any other thing except to the advantage of the pack.” Beta Julius explained in details.
“As much as having a clairvoyant ability sounds like a blessing, it is a curse too.” Hazel said in a more clarified tone.
“Yes.” Julius nodded.
Sebastian rubbed at his forehead. “But what exactly did Jaylen do to deserve this?”
Julius chortled. “Why do you think he is unfortunate?”
“Why not?” Sebastian defended. “Only him has to face his brother to get to a post he doesn’t even want and now as soon as he clocks twenty six there is an obvious advantage that he could go wild. That’s so unfair.”
“That’s not it son, people like Jaylen are assigned to make the werewolf world a better place. And it won’t come easy to them. As for him going wild, we just have to figure out a way to sort this. And he isn’t going wild the moment he clocks twenty six, I am only saying there is a possibility he would become more aware of his capabilities.” Julius stood up as he kissed his wife. “I am heading to the pack house baby. Do you need me to drop you at the infirmary?” He asked hazel.
“Not at all darling. I would head down there myself.” Hazel replied as she kissed him back.
Julius turned towards a still perplexed Sebastian. “Hey man, you have got a meeting in less than an hour. What are you sitting there?”
Jolting out of his seat, Sebastian grinned at his father. “Alright, alright. I am on my way please.”
Julius and Hazel laughed. They hugged themselves one last time before Julius headed out of the house after reminding his son of the board meeting.
Sebastian sighed as he tossed his sausage around in the plate. As the soon to be Beta of Moon Stone Fortress, he had no idea what he was getting himself into at first until Jaylen arrived to the fortress and since then it has been one revelation after the other. Despite knowing he would only do what is right for the Fortress, the thought of him becoming Jayden’s enemy made him worried.
“I am scared mom.” He blurted out.
Hazel stood up and walked towards her son. “I understand how you feel baby.” She massaged his back.
He looked up at her. “I don’t know if I am ready to get tossed into this madness.”
“Your father was just about your age or very much younger when he took up the Beta position and he did extremely well as expected. I know you won’t disappoint either and you would stay true to yourself.”
“But mom-”
“Shhh…” Hazel pulled his head to her bosom. “I trust you baby. I trust you would do what is right, don’t sweat it.”
Sebastian sighed as he hugged his mother back. He hoped fervently that his mother was right.
