Lorelei smiled shyly as she twirled her ponytail with her finger. She had her phone held to her ear with the other free hand speaking to Jaylen.
‘So, what are you up to today?’ Lorelei said into the receiver as she glided her way towards the dining table.
‘Nothing much, I don’t know yet. I had a good time with dad this morning.’ Jaylen’s voice sifted from the other end. ‘And lest I forget I had a really good time yesterday baby, thank you.’
‘Anything for you.’ Lorelei giggled. She rolled her eyes at her brother who tugged at her hair from behind.
‘Lunch?’ Jaylen continued.
‘Sure.’ Lorelei responded as she pulled out a chair to seat in after mouthing a greeting to her parents. ‘I would let you know as soon as I get my break. I am only hoping there won’t be an emergency.’
His laughter made her smile widely, as she played with her cutlery. ‘Alright baby. I would call you later. Bye.’
‘Bye you too.’ She hung up, still holding up the smile.
“Shouldn’t you at least say a proper good morning now that you are here?” Sebastian teased.
“Shouldn’t you apologize for almost yanking my hair off?” Lorelei retorted, looking towards her mother to interfere.
Theta Hazel sighed, knowing what Lorelei expects her to do. “How many times have I told you to stop tugging at your sister’s hair Sebastian? Such pull can lead to alopecia.”
Sebastian imitated his mother by doing a lip sync of her words, she does so every time Lorelei reports him over pulling at her hair. It has always been like that since they were little kids.
“Sometimes I really don’t like the fact that you both are doctors.” He snickered.
Beta Julius stayed quiet all the while not really interfering in the conversation. As the day passed he had become more reclusive and that had started occurring since his friend Alpha Carl has been said to have a few time left.
Lorelei and Sebastian nodded towards their mother while Hazel shut her eyes and shook her head.
“Are you okay honey?” Hazel inquired as she rubbed at her husband’s hand.
Letting out a deep breath, Julius tried to smile. “I am good.”
“Are you sure dad?” Sebastian tried to affirm.
Julius chuckled. “I’m okay. You all worry too much. I guess I am feeling tired too and working with Jayden isn’t that comforting. I won’t deny his competence but he needs to learn compassion one way or the other. Can you fill in for me at the board meeting today Seb? I would like to visit Carl.”
Sebastian cleared his throat nervously. “I’m not one of the board members yet dad, you think I would be allowed to do that?”
“Definitely, you are the incoming Beta. Aside just lurking in your office there, you should know what goes on in the board meetings. Jayden only took over recently and I can bet chairs are about to be thrown.” Julius explained.
Hazel giggled, still holding her husband’s hand. “You aren’t helping matters baby.” She noted when she caught sight of the look of horror on Sebastian’s face.
“Such a scare baby.” Lorelei taunted.
Julius waved his hand. “Nah. Sebastian isn’t scared of anyone. I am only letting you know and I guess it’s of common knowledge to you too. Jayden has been your friend since a long time so you should know how he behaves.”
Sebastian nodded. He wasn’t fazed because of what his father said to him but he was more annoyed at the fact that Jayden probably disrespected the Beta all in a bid to prove how authoritative he was.
“It’s okay dad. I would go on your behalf.” He replied.
“Can we eat now? The food is getting cold as it is.” Hazel said as she passed around the plate for anyone who seem interested in the content.
After everyone of them got their plates dished, Hazel’s eyes raked over her children and it landed on Lorelei, who seem engrossed on her phone.
Hazel heaved a sigh as she dropped her spoon after munching on the meal. “When do you intend to bring him over to dinner?” She asked with a wide grin on her face.
Lorelei didn’t respond as her mind wasn’t there but Julius and Sebastian looked up from their food. Seeing she still hadn’t caught the question, Sebastian did the honor of kicking her feet under the table.
“What the hell Sebastian?!” Lorelei growled in annoyance that synced with her wolf.
Sebastian looked unfazed as he wiggled his brows at her. “Mom just asked you something.”
Lorelei turned towards their mother, expecting it to be a lie so she could pounce on Sebastian. “Did you really say something mom?”
Hazel smiled. “Yeah. I just asked when you would be bringing Jaylen over.”
“Mom!” Lorelei blushed hard, trying to keep her face away from them.
“She is so smitten.” Sebastian muttered under his breath, causing him to receive a kick in the leg too.
Throwing a glare at him, Lorelei cleared her throat. “It has just been a while mom. I don’t know if he wants to yet.”
“I don’t think there is any much ado baby, we just want to know the man behind your constant smile.” Julius chipped in.
“Hmmmm, Hmmm.” Hazel nodded in response. “Aside the fact that he is the Alpha’s son and even my godson I want to know him more as my daughter’s boyfriend.” She added.
Lorelei heaved a sigh as she looked at her wristwatch. “Oh my goodness!” She stood up in hurry. She downed the rest of her juice. “I have got to go now guys, see you later!” She pecked her parents in a hurry too.
Lorelei stood behind her mother and showed Sebastian a middle finger. She didn’t wait for him to respond before running off.
“That girl!” Julius laughed, he had seen what she did.
“I would really deal with her.” Sebastian said with a smile on his face.
“I didn’t want to say anything in front of Lorelei knowing how loose mouthed she is in the midst of her friends. “What’s going on exactly baby?” Hazel asked her husband with a worried look in her eyes.
“Rumor has it that the Rogue Pack are back.” Julius laid out his fears.
Hazel eyes shot out like saucers while Sebastian gritted his teeth. Julius continued. “And it’s been heard that they are even more stronger. I hope they won’t feed on the Fortress’s weakness knowing that the Alpha isn’t well enough. The Fortress would experience a great damage if they penetrate us this way. Something needs to be done.”
Sebastian huffed. “I got to affirm yesterday that Jaylen is the real Alpha wolf.” He blurted out.
“How?” Beta Hazel and Julius asked in unison.
“He has a mark and his wolf is unique.” Sebastian answered.
