EPISODE SIXTY ONE
THEME: Pettiness
MOON STONE FORTRESS
AT THE PACK HOUSE
Tapping his feet on the stairs in an hurried manner, Jayden moved towards the kitchen to have a quick breakfast. He woke up super hungry and had decided to come down to the kitchen to prepare something for himself rather than have the maids do it.
It had become a routine for him, to exercise his whole body by shifting and having some run arounds in the wood in the early hours of the morning just to feel a bit more refreshed when the day begins.
Jayden mumbled profanities when he saw Jaylen in the kitchen, throwing in some stuffs into the blender. He didn’t know how he was suppose to react to that because the blender Jaylen was with turned out to be the one Jayden makes use of the most. There were other blenders for use but he didn’t use any of them. Jayden tried not to act petty as he grumbled his way through the kitchen.
“I need a blender!” Jayden growled as he startled the maids and Jaylen himself. None of them had noticed when he came into the kitchen. Immediately the maids scrambled around to get him what he wanted.
“Good morning.” Jaylen greeted.
Stopping for a moment, Jayden stuck both of his hands in his pants pocket. “Can we pretend not to notice each other.”
Jaylen sighed as he let go of the blender head he was holding. “It’s just a mere greeting, that shouldn’t hurt right. For Moon Goddess sake Jayden we are brothers and I have completely nothing against you. I really don’t understand what the grudge is about.”
“I don’t give a damn about what you don’t understand. Just fuck off.” Jayden gritted.
“You know what, do all you want it’s all good.” Dropping the napkin he had on hand, Jaylen picked up the content he had blended at first and poured into glass cups before walking out of the kitchen.
Jayden felt the urge to call him back, but his ego was definitely beyond Jaylen’s talk which he considered petty. Huffing at the ruin of his mood, Jayden glared at the maid who handed him a new blender to use and stormed out of the kitchen.
Words failed Jaylen as he still couldn’t figure out whatever was running through Jayden’s head. He had thought they were over the casual greeting and can actually be civil with each other. In his annoyance, he almost tripped against a stone.
Holding on to his chest to calm his breath, Jaylen smiled at the sight of his father staring out into the early sunrise. Watching the sun rise by the lake is a beautiful sight any pair of eyes would be lucky to behold.
Waking up early, Jaylen had felt a new form of energy rejuvenate inside of him and he couldn’t keep it to himself. The first person he wanted to share some moments with was his father, to his pleasure Carl was also awake by the time he got to his parents room.
Discreetly, to avoid waking Meagan up knowing how stressed she was. Jaylen had wheeled his father out in the open and he had only returned inside to the kitchen to make an healthy smoothie for the both of them. But Jayden being Jayden had decided to ruin the moment.
“Hey Dad.” He called out, taking a seat on the stone cob made in form of a chair. “Here you go.” He stretched out the glass to his father.
Carl held onto the cup weakly with his hands shaking.
“Do you need help with that?” Jaylen looked concerned.
Carl chuckled. “It’s okay son, Ian still make do with this one. It isn’t that bad.”
Jaylen watched as his father’s word came out a bit too slow and almost like he was being forced to talk. His whole skin was fading off and he seem like a moving skeleton. The disease has no intention of making it easy for Carl as it chopped off a huge chunk of his remains every day.
Not minding how much it would cost him, Jaylen had contacted practically half of the best renowned werewolf and human doctors in the world who can help heal his father. However, none of them were able to proffer a solution except death.
So Jaylen had decided to ensure he makes paramount use of the time Carl had left to bond with him and make the rest of his days worthwhile.
“Hmmm, this tastes really nice.” Carl commented after taking a sip of the smoothie.
“How do you feel dad?” Jaylen inquired, trying not to sound broken.
Carl stretched out his hand, to pat Jaylen on the head. “Don’t be like that son. Instead, you should be grateful for this opportunity given to the both of us to spend time together. It’s a huge luxury. Now tell me something interesting you have been up to so far, I didn’t come out this early to be bored. And you look extremely happy today.”
Jaylen chuckled. “It’s nothing much dad. I went to the woods with Lorelei, Claire, Sebastian and Hermione last night.”
Carl smiled. “So how was it?”
“Rejuvenating.”
“I am indeed glad you did enjoy it. I wish I wasn’t so incapacitated it would have been nice to see you shift. The last time I saw you shift was when you made the shift easily on your own after you first turned. The rest of the years, you and Jayden became discreet and hideous with your shift. I almost worried you didn’t have a wolf, until your mother told me otherwise.”
Jaylen laughed. “Mom was exceptionally nosy, she had to our own surprise mastered the time we go down to the woods to run. And she caught us bringing down girls from school, just to show off our furs. It was mostly Jayden’s idea though not mine.” He let out a boyish grin.
Carl chuckled. “There were good times then and I was the happiest Alpha on earth having two sons. And I thought I was doing just great as a father.”
Throwing his father a sympathetic look, Jaylen held his hand. “You were and still a great dad. You weren’t made perfect and there was no way you could have handled it beyond the way you did. What matters now is me being here with you, and us having this moment together.”
Taking a deep breath, Carl leaned further into the wheel chair. “Even if I die now, I will die peaceful.” Looking his son in the eyes, Carl tightened his hold on Jaylen weakly.
“I know it might be hard son, but whatever you would do after I am gone ensure you make the right decision and do not get intimidated by anyone! You are the son of Alpha King Carl Damien!” Carl pointed out with pride and confidence in his tone.
“I am certain you will do well.” Carl added quickly.
Jaylen nodded his head although not really comprehending his father’s words. The both of them stayed quiet as they watched the beauty of the early morning sun.
