EPISODE FORTY NINE
THEME: His concern
MOON STONE FORTRESS
Jaylen frowned at his phone again, he had been trying to reach Rosalyn since the early hours of the morning and he still has been unable to reach her. It got him worried and pissed at the same time because there were some files he needed to confirm from her before he proceeded to approve them. But she has been unreachable all morning.
He had only distracted himself from work when he had drove down to the Force Base to check on Juno. He had been reminded of it when they had settled down to eat.
“Are you okay?” Lorelei asked with her face creased in worry.
“It’s all good. I just need to get across to Rosalyn but she hadn’t been picking up for close to an hour now.” He responded, still keeping his eyes on the phone.
“She might be busy.” Lorelei proposed.
“No matter how busy Rosalyn might be, she would always pick up her phone. I feel unsettled not being able to reach her.”
Seeing how tensed he look, Lorelei stretched out her hand to hold onto his hand on the table. “It’s okay baby, I’m sure you would be able to reach her soon.”
Jaylen smiled as her attempt at calming him down did work out. “Thanks.” He muttered, returning his attention to the food in front of him.
Just as he dipped the cutlery into the food his phone rang. Jaylen picked almost immediately but the call wasn’t who he was expecting.
‘Good day sir.’ The voice on the other line boomed from the receiver.
‘How are you doing, Jeffery?’ Jaylen sounded disappointed, but he chided himself for not thinking to call him instead. Jeffery served as Rosalyn’s assistant and he helped her hold the company down whenever he was away just like his absence at this time.
‘I am good sir.’
‘Where is Rosalyn? I have been trying her line all morning.’
Jeffery went quiet at first, almost like he was trying to get his words together. ‘About that sir…Mis Rosalyn got involved in a little accident…’
‘What?!’ Jaylen stood up from his seat abruptly, making Lorelei do the same too as she stared at him wondering what went wrong.
‘Wait a minute sir, it’s not as serious as you think. It’s just a minor injury she was able to swerve-‘
Jaylen didn’t let him finish. ‘Where the hell is Rosalyn right now?!’ He growled.
‘Sir…she is at the hospital.’ Jeffery squeaked.
‘You fool! And you didn’t care to share that piece of information with me?’ He seethed his teeth in annoyance.
Lorelei stared ahead in confusion, she had no idea what she was suppose to do.
‘Miss Rosalyn had told me herself to not tell you about it.’
‘And why are you telling me now?!’ Jaylen snapped.
Jeffery stuttered, unsure of what to say. ‘I… I…sir…’
‘I swear with all I have Jeffery. If anything happens to Rosalyn I will have your head!’ He barked out before hanging up the call.
“‘What’s wrong?” Lorelei asked Jaylen as he called onto the waiter absentmindedly.
‘Rosalyn got into an accident.’ Jaylen responded as he foot the bills. Looking up at Lorelie, he kissed her lightly. “I’m so sorry to cut this short baby, but I have to get to Chicago today.”
“Today? Why?”
“Because it’s Rosalyn and she is like the only friend I have got. You need to understand this baby, I need to get home now.”
Taking a moment to let his words sink in, Lorelei could tell there was no other way to it. Jaylen was just a concerned friend and boss.
“I would go home with you to pack. Will you return?” Lorelei asked the question she considered the scariest. What if he doesn’t return back to the pack?
Jaylen sighed as he rubbed at her cheek. “I promise to be back as soon as Rosalyn is on her feet. I can’t run that company without her. She has always been there when I need her and I haven’t done enough for her so this is the time for me to repay her.”
Lorelei nodded her head in understanding. “And I don’t need to pack up anything. I just need to inform my parents and grandmother of my movement.” He added.
“I will come with you.” She said.
“Sure baby.” He replied, kissing her forehead as they head out of the restaurant.
Jaylen’s mind went into a spiral mode as his heart kept letting out a scary tune. He prayed to the Moon Goddess that Rosalyn wasn’t really hurt as he has no idea how he would ever be able to cope without her. He had never even imagined himself and the company without Rosalyn in it.
The pace at which his heart was beating he couldn’t explain it. Jaylen dialed a number in a hurry as he drove along the road. He bit on his lips as the receiver didn’t pick on time.
‘What took you so long?’ He bellowed when the person eventually picked.
‘I am so sorry sir. How may I be of service?’
‘Prepare the jet please. I am flying to Chicago today.’
‘As you wish sir.’ Came the response as the call ended.
Lorelei watched in awe at how much Jaylen controlled and how humble he was compared to Jayden. Even though she hates to do so. As much as they were identical and of the same parents, Jayden and Jaylen were two different personalities and it was extremely glaring.
However, she was more concerned of the situation at the moment. Even though their relationship is at its early stage the thought of him being away from her and not knowing what the turn out of his return to Chicago would be bothered her.
What if he doesn’t come back? It’s understandable that he would leave eventually, but both of them not having an initial agreement on how to work on long distance relationship might be another problem.
Lorelei held her head in place as it seem like it might explode. She chided herself for thinking so selfishly when someone was probably on the hospital bed rotting away. Being a medical doctor, an injured person’s state of mind be it her patient or not should be paramount to her own personal thoughts.
Biting on her lips, she stared out the window to prevent the tears she couldn’t explain it’s source from falling.
