EPISODE THIRTY NINE
THEME: His Feelings
MOON STONE FORTRESS
Santos is a Mexican werewolf who had decided to migrate down to Moon Stone Fortress to bless them with the goodies of his nutritious meal. Alpha Carl had been very accommodating and also enjoyed every bit of his tacos. It almost became a family thing.
“I have loved this tacos since like forever.” Lorelei muttered as she munched on the first bite.
One thing about Santo’s tacos is, he never waste time to present your order.
“You intrigue me.” Jaylen blurted out, almost biting his tongue at the sudden outburst.
Lorelei blushed as she sat up a bit. “Oh really.”
Jaylen cleared his throat. “What I mean is, I want to be your friend.”
“Hmmmm. Just for the time being?”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s of obvious knowledge that you would leave soon.” Lorelei replied.
“Does that mean we can’t be friends?”
“I never said that.”
“So…”
Lorelei shrugged with her cheeks burning up as she couldn’t hold back the blush. Jaylen was too sweet and polite and it made her melt. She couldn’t say no even if it was necessary.
“Sure.”
“Then I can have your contact now?”
“Are you kidding me?” She laughed sweetly. “All the talks was for a mere contact?”
“It’s worth it.” He grinned cutely.
“You are so cute.” She pulled at his cheek unconsciously.
Realizing what she did, both of them looked away shyly.
“I don’t want this to be awkward Lorelei. I must admit, you have been on my mind since the day we met. So, I would really like to know you more.” Jaylen let out a deep breath. It felt like that was the longest speech he had made within few seconds.
“I can’t say I don’t feel the same way either. I mean… I would also like to get to know you.” She replied.
Jaylen observed her keenly as she tried her hardest to hide the blush that enveloped the whole of her cheeks. They stayed silent for a while with each person lost in their thoughts.
Lorelei was the first to speak after what seem like a long time. “Are you scared? I mean… knowing your dad has a short time to live?”
Jaylen kept mute, staring into space. He had never really thought of it. It still seems unlikely as he tried hard to divert his thought from it. Now that the obvious was so glaring all he could feel is the palpitation of his heart.
“It’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it.” Lorelei interjected after noticing his mood.
“It’s okay. I just try hard not to dwell on the thought. But it seems unavoidable.” Jaylen responded as he smiled lightly at her.
“Your dad is a strong man.” She said
Jaylen nodded in agreement. “I know.”
Sipping on her drink, Lorelei tapped on her phone to check the time. To her surprise it was past ten.
“Wow, we have been talking for more than an hour.” She said.
Jaylen raised a brow in disbelief, as he checked his wristwatch. “Is that so? It seem like we have only spent ten minutes.”
Lorelei let out a small laugh, putting a loose hair strand behind her ear. “We could spend more time together sometime soon if you don’t mind.”
“Really? You don’t mind?”
“Should I?”
“Not at all, I just would love to spend more time with you without actually inconveniencing you.” Jaylen responded.
“Well, I am saying now that I am just fine with it. So I would be expecting your call.” Looking into his eyes, she took his phone placed on the table and typed her number into it.
Jaylen smirked as he got his phone back. “I would surely reach out. Should I walk you home?”
“Oh no, you don’t have to worry. I called for a taxi already. You should join me.” She offered.
“Not to worry at all. I would like to walk back instead.”
“Ok.” Lorelei stood up with a tight smile.
In a second, the taxi she ordered was waiting up for her.
“A hug?” He asked after walking her to the taxi.
“Sure.” Lorelei blushed as she felt really weird acting so mushy around Jaylen. But she couldn’t help it, he is too intentional.
Jaylen almost melted as he hugged her. Lorelei’s lavender scent attacked his nose making him feel intoxicated. He could remain that way if she let him.
“I should go now.” Lorelei squeaked, letting herself out of his hold and rushing off.
Jaylen smiled as he watched the taxi drive off. She didn’t hear him say goodbye. Inhaling deeply, Jaylen began his walk back home. He needed time to brood on his own.
Getting onto the walk way his phone rang. He almost jumped out of his skin, forgetting that he had his phone with him. He smiled a bit when he saw the caller.
‘Hey mama.’ He bellowed into the speaker
Rosalyn laughing tone tingled his ears. ‘Do you always have to be so cute?’
‘Funny though even when I try my hardest to play tough.’
‘Tchh… Tough luck.’ She giggled.
‘How are you doing?’
‘I am working on the deal with M & P Energy.’
‘What would I do without you, Rosa?’
‘Whatever.’ She laughed. ‘I called to ask how the jog went.’
‘Truth?’
‘Hmmmm. Hmmm.’ She hummed a response.
‘It was awesome!’
‘Tell me all about it.’ Rosalyn sounded excited.
‘I met her tonight and it went well. Maybe this journey isn’t so bad.’
Rosalyn was confused by his words. ‘Who?’
‘I thought we talked about it yesterday?’
‘No.’
‘Oh, now I remember! You needed to attend to something the other day. Anyways, I just met her and she is nice.’ Thinking about Lorelei again, he couldn’t help the smile that spread onto his lips.
There was a brief pause, Rosalyn tried to compose herself. ‘That’s nice.’ Her voice faded a bit.
Rosalyn already knew this sort of moment would come but she hadn’t expected it to come by so early. Her heart fluttered consistently as she felt a strain of heartbreak.
‘Are you okay, Rosa?’
‘Yes, I am very fine. I should get back to work now.’ She responded.
‘Alright, I shouldn’t keep you either. I just got home.’ He noted, staring at the pack house entrance.
‘Bye.’ She disconnected the call.
Taking a deep breath, Jaylen yawned as tiredness ruled over his body. The day had been long and all he wanted was a good sleep.
He hoped that the new day won’t carry the baggage of the past problems with it.
