(A CARD OF FATE)
EPISODE TWENTY
THEME: Moon Stone Fortress
MOON STONE FORTRESS
The type of feeling that hit him the moment he stepped foot on the land, made him different. He couldn’t explain what it was exactly.
Jaylen gulped hard at the home he had been born came into view. He had intentionally taken his time and followed the advice Rosalyn gave him. He decided to come home and probably have some closure.
The moment his private jet landed, the car Rosalyn had ordered to be kept in place for him was right there at the tarmac awaiting his arrival. That was one thing about Rosalyn’s aptness to work.
To avoid being noticed on time, since he has an identical semblance to his brother, he had on a black face cap and a nose mask. His dressing was just as casual, not to be easily noticed as a stranger he had dumped the idea of going all black. He wore a Louis Vuitton sweatshirt and some nice black jeans with a pair of Nike Snickers.
Getting the key he got into the car, almost jumping into it. It looked different now and he had learnt from Rosalyn that they had become a fortress and not just a pack. He must have been away from home for a long time.
He decided against heading straight to the pack house, he wanted to explore the environs a bit. There was a particular place he had in mind, where he always took Claire whenever he had some pocket money to spare. The mall was his favorite place, especially the game section. It was his getaway from the real life he had to face at home.
‘Hello there prince, you home yet?’ Rosalyn cooed from the speaker.
The moment he got into the car, he had dialed her line. ‘You are such a blessing Rosa. I almost thought I would have a hard time waiting on the car and finding my way. But you outdid yourself, a convertible? That’s so nice of you.’
Rosalyn laughed. ‘See you sounding like I did it all by myself. Your money was spent mister.’
‘But you did arrange it all. I was too preoccupied with what might happen I almost forgot that I needed these essentials. Rosalyn-‘
‘You are always welcome.’ She interrupted him.
‘I haven’t said a thank you yet.’ He teased.
‘I can hear it coming.’ She giggled.
‘I won’t anymore.’
‘Okay.’
‘Just okay, you won’t probe me further?’
Rosalyn chortled. ‘Hey, are you that nervous?’ She had caught his trick.
Jaylen was trying to not end the conversation because his mind is so unsettled.
‘You are always so correct.’ He commented.
‘You give yourself away.’
Jaylen sighed. ‘I don’t know Rosa, how do you think this will go?’
‘Very well of course. They would be so glad to see you.’
‘I don’t know if I would be.’
‘Stop overthinking it already. Where are you headed?’
‘Keeping a tab on me?’ Jaylen chuckled.
‘If I need to come to your rescue then I need to know where you at.’
‘Yes Mama, I am heading to the mall.’ He joked.
Rosalyn laughed. ‘I just want to know you are safe and not also running away.’
‘Come on, I am here already. You really think I would run?’ He feigned a gasp. ‘I feel so hurt right now.’
‘You think I am not.’ Rosalyn interjected with an obvious happiness in her voice. She was glad that Jaylen had listened to her.
‘I hate you.’ He laughed along.
‘I’m glad you are loosening up. Get something to eat just incase you don’t feel comfortable eating at home.’ She advised.
‘You don’t need to remind me, I am loading my belly up the moment I get the chance to.’
There was a brief pause.
‘You wouldn’t let him get to you right?’ Rosalyn asked.
‘I can’t promise anything. But I am certain that I am no longer the weak Jaylen.’
‘You were never weak, Jaylen. Please don’t lose your head.’
‘Alright, I would do as you say.’
‘Ok, talk to you later. Bye!’
Rosalyn didn’t let him finish before hanging up the call. He wanted to keep the conversation going just to keep his fidgeting hands from falling off.
The GPS announced he had reached his destination. Jaylen parked his car and he could visualize the mall had changed from how it was ten years back. And there was more people moving around.
He took a deep breath before keeping up with his journey into the mall. Every step he took gave him a nostalgic feeling. Memories of when his brother Jayden wasn’t so prideful and controlling. When they were five and would come to the mall most times with their grandmother or Theta Hazel since their parents were always so busy to take them out. But they always find a way to ensure they eventually spent quality time together.
He and Jayden loved to torment their grandmother by running all the way up to the mall and around it. The thought of it made him smile. Gabriella would then sit right in the middle awaiting their return.
In the end, all they end up buying is some ice cream to cool themselves off. Those days were wonderful days, and then seven years of both of them being together their little sister came along. Claire was so adorable. As she grew up she began to choose the brother she wanted to spend most of her time with which was him. That didn’t sit right with Jayden who loved being the center of attention, both from old and young.
Their feud had began from there, until it escalated and became unbearable. Jayden began to find faults in everything Jaylen did even when he did nothing wrong. All most every time something had to result in a fist fight. He was the one with the most bruises, since Jayden always ensured to catch him off guard and he was the strongest one at the time.
Jaylen stood in front of his favorite spot-The games section. There were many game pads. His inner man wanted to rush at it and get as many as he wanted just to probably play a duel with Jayden. But his heart sunk when he got reminded that they were no longer those siblings who cherished each other’s presence. One resents the other and the other just feels emotionless towards him. Their relationship is a complete mess.
Turning rapidly, he had missed a footing and not looking at where he was going. Out of nowhere some cold sticky green liquid splashed on his masked face.
