CHAPTER 57
Emma stood up in shock as Devon’s words got to her.
“What do you mean Basil left grey pack?” Emma asked curiously.
“You heard me right. Basil left weeks ago” Devon repeated and Emma held her seat for support.
“He didn’t possibly leave because of me right?” Emma asked worriedly.
“Don’t get over yourself. Why would Basil leave because of you? Why should he do that? Don’t even bother saying he left because of your coronation. It’s nothing close to that and if that’s all you’re here for, you can leave now because Basil isn’t around and if you desperately need to get in touch with him. You can place a call across to him, that’s the least you can do as his worried mother” Devon said bluntly and he stood up.
Emma stared at her cell phone as she hesitated to place a call.
“What’s the hesitation for? You weren’t this hesitant when you agreed to be the true Alpha” Devon said coldly and Emma looked away.
“Coming here and trying to speak with you is a complete waste of time. You don’t plan on ending this cold war between us and I can’t force you to accept things the way they are but what I don’t get is that you’ve been holding a grudge for weeks now. Aren’t you tired? Do you plan on living this way with me for the rest of our lives?” Emma asked with a frown and Devon walked to her.
“I know where you’re driving at, you’ve got a very high position. You shouldn’t sound this way in front of me. I might end up using it against you. You claim to care about Basil but you’ve barely gotten the chance to call him. You know exactly what it feels like to lose a child so don’t let yourself go through that same trauma. I have no idea if that position is worth it” Alpha Devon said and walked out of the meeting room.
“Why did he bring that up? He has a way of pissing me off” Emma groaned and she glanced at her phone.
“Hopefully, you pick up the call Basil. Don’t add to my worries please” Emma uttered in a low tone before placing a call across to Basil.
“Basil” Emma called out as Basil took the call.
“Yes mother,” Basil said calmly.
“I’m sorry, you haven’t heard from me lately. I’ve been pretty occupied with things. I got to Grey pack today and your father told me you left here and he didn’t bother telling me where you travelled” Emma said.
“It’s okay, mother. I only travelled to fulfil my rights as the alpha’s heir. I travelled to the crust pack, we talked about it before and I’m here with the young warriors so it’s nothing you should worry yourself about you must be busy right now, how about we talk some other time” Basil said.
“Basil, I am not done talking yet. I still want to catch up with you. How’s your stay in crust pack? Alpha Jackson didn’t tell me anything about your visit to his pack” Emma said.
“I guess he’s way too busy to show up at his pack and he’s also busy chasing you after you, a mother so I don’t think he has the time to put interest in that. Anyways, I’m a busy mother. Let’s talk some other time. Bye,” Basil said and hung up.
Emma placed her hands on her waist as she stared at her phone. Alpha Devon walked back into the meeting room. Emma looked at him then looked away tiredly.
“Did you…” Devon couldn’t complete his statement when Emma cut in.
“Oh please, Devon. Can you just leave me be? What have you been telling Basil about Jackson? He sounded way too rude when he spoke of him. I have no idea what you’ve been feeding him but can you please just stop, it’s hurting my relationship with my son” Emma said seriously.
“You think I’m that sort of person to go telling our son about you just so I can have him by my side? Don’t be ridiculous Emma. You’re being overly sensitive and I’ve got nothing to do with your relationship with Basil. If he has a problem with you then you’re the cause of it so why are you trying to push the blame on me? Are you trying to tell me you didn’t get into an argument with Basil in the last few weeks? Was I the cause of it? If you don’t wish to ruin your relationship with Basil anymore then I advise you to stay away from Jackson, that will be good for everyone” Alpha Devon said bluntly.
“Don’t give me lectures and don’t tell me what to do. Basil is my son and I will fix my relationship with him in my way so stay out of my business” Emma said seriously then walked out of the meeting room.
***********
Basil walked around in the field with Abe next to him in crust pack.
“You just spoke to the Luna right?” Abe asked.
“Obviously,” Devon said calmly.
“You don’t look happy. You’ve always wanted to see her call and hear her voice but why do you have that expression on your face? Did something happen?” Abe asked curiously.
“Nothing happened. I waited weeks eager to see her call but right now, after speaking with her. I feel terrible. I shouldn’t have taken the call, I could feel the worry and concern in her voice but I don’t know why, she still cares about me when she chose the position over me” Basil said with a frown.
Suddenly Basil felt the presence and smell of werewolves from behind.
“Abe, I think we’re being targeted,” Basil said in a low tone and Abe widened his eyes in shock.
“What are you saying, Basil? There’s no one behind us”
“Why do you believe me but you’re saying something else” Basil smirked as he saw Abe’s claws grow out.
“I don’t joke around with your safety,” Abe said seriously as he removed his clothes immediately and he turned around.
Some group of werewolves in their wolf form were running towards their direction in a hurry.
Basil removed his clothes in seconds and he transformed immediately same as Abe.
Basil and Abe got surrounded by werewolves.
“I’ve always known this pack was the enemy’s territory but I had no idea they would want to finish us up in their pack,” Basil said.
“Let’s get over with this quickly,” Abe said as he positioned his claws and he rushed the wolves. Abe gave them deep and dangerous cuts.
Basil took care of half of the wolves.
He grabbed one of the wolves.
“I’ve never been violence, bear with me” Basil smiled and slit the throat of the wolf.
The rest of the wolves saw this and they retreated. They ran off immediately along with the wounded wolves.
Abe and Basil went back to their normal form.
“What the hell is going on? I only just got started. Where are they running off to? What sort of enemies is this?” Basil yelled and Abe laughed as he put on his clothes.
“What does it look like? Of course, you got too brutal. I guess they were only just trying to scare us or have a petty fight and you killed one of them like you’re in a war zone” Abe explained and Basil stared at him still confused.
“I don’t get it. Why on earth will they try to scare us my father taught me to always be aggressive if I’m fighting the enemy and that’s exactly what I did. I guess after this, they wouldn’t want to come anywhere close. I just wasted my energy, they’re such cowards” Basil said coldly.
“You’re slowly turning into your father. One can easily tell he’s your master, no doubt”
“Should I look like my mother instead? Which do you think is preferable” Basil asked as he picked up his clothes from the ground.
“Well, Luna Emma is quite feisty and she’s a dangerous killer. She only kills in the night while alpha Devon faces his enemies at all times but your mother is way too dangerous to mess with. I don’t mind you being both” Abe said with a smile.
“After so long, I finally put my training to work. Thanks, father” Basil smiled.
“Are you that excited?”
“Of course, I didn’t disappoint you and that means I didn’t disappoint father either,” Basil said with a smirk.
“You just chased away our most wanted rebellious rogue. I’ve always wanted to take them down myself so why did you butt in and ruin that for me?” Ambrose said seriously as he joined them and Abe scoffed.
“Should I go call them back if you’re that desperate to fight?” Abe scorned.
“We’re here for a purpose but the security in your pack sucks and now I see why you’re never going to beat grey pack. You’ve got guests and your security is killing. Let’s go, Abe” Basil said rudely then walked away.
“I should feel offended about your words but surprisingly I’m not. You didn’t disappoint me either, you showed us exactly what family you’re from” Ambrose complimented and Basil looked at him.
“What the hell are you saying? Was that supposed to make me feel good or what” Basil blurted and Ambrose wore a half smile.
“Have a peaceful stay in crust pack?” Ambrose said and left.
“He’s acting suspicious just like his father. They always have a way of making someone feel uncomfortable. I don’t remember being that close with him so why did he compliment me that way? Was he watching us when we fought those werewolves? He’s suspicious” Basil uttered and Abe tapped his shoulders.
“You think too much. Don’t let anything he says get to you. You don’t wish to repeat what your mother did. Luna Emma fell for the words of alpha Jackson and nothing have been going well in our favour ever since he showed up” Abe reminded and Basil nodded.
“You have a point but placing my mother like a coward doesn’t sound right. No matter what she does, she’s still my mother and she deserves some respect” Basil said seriously then walked away.
…….
Ambrose got to crust pack house. Silvia jumped on him from behind.
Ambrose swiftly flipped her over to the ground.
Silvia winced loudly.
“What are you doing?” Ambrose asked in shock as he saw Silvia. He gave out his hand to help her up but she shoved it away.
“Stay away from me. You’re too hostile” Silvia said with a frown as she stood up and wiped her body with her palms.
“You can’t just jump on me like that from behind. I’m a warrior, I’ve been trained to always be ready for attacks from behind” Ambrose explained and Silvia rolled her eyes.
“Can’t you tell from my figure that I’m a female and I’m being playful? You caught me off guard and that’s why I fell to the ground” Silvia said.
“What are you doing here, to begin with? What are you doing in Crust pack?” Ambrose asked.
“Why? You look excited to see me. I guess my trip wasn’t in vain” Silvia said with a silly smile.
“Just go away. I don’t have time to hang out with you if you came here to hang out. And again, your friends are here, you can go hang out with them if you wish” Ambrose said about to walk away but Silvia stopped him.
“Basil and Abe didn’t come all the way here to hang out. They’re only here for business and I didn’t come all the way here just to hang out with them, I came here for you. I told you I would be visiting you after the coronation. I said I will be your friend. You haven’t forgotten that right” Silvia said.
“Leave me alone,” Ambrose said tiredly then walked away.
Silvia ran after him and she was about to get hit by a pot of flowers from the rooftop when Ambrose swiftly grabbed her closer to him.
“You’ve got quite a good sense of hearing,” Silvia said with a smile.
“You’re so full of talk, you should at least look out for yourself and for the last time, I don’t want you around so don’t provoke me,” Ambrose said coldly and let go of her arm.
