CHAPTER 43
Everyone stood in shock for some minutes before uttering a word.
“But Devon, no one knew you have it. Even I didn’t know you have it” Kent said completely confused.
“You don’t have it on you?” Emma asked curiously.
“I was born with it but I don’t have it. It was only inscribed on my back. Mother never gave it to me but immediately I was born, mother said I was born with a wolf fang” Devon said and Kent looked at Emma.
“It’s nothing for us to be confused about. I will go out there and confirm their doubts and if any opportunity arises out there, I will grab it so we can get rid of all the elders without even moving an inch” Emma said.
Alpha Devon swallowed hard.
“Emma what if I suggest you don’t go out?” Devon requested and Emma looked at him not getting his act.
“Why? They’re all here to meet with me so they can confirm their doubts. Why does it feel like you’re scared of something? I will be right back” Emma said and left the room.
Alpha Devon ruffled his hair frustratedly.
“She doesn’t have any idea what’s going to happen but it’s her fate to go through this and I’m sorry but you can’t stop that from happening,” Kent said.
“If she goes down there and confirms their doubts, Emma will automatically become the next true Alpha. That might endanger her life, taking over such a huge responsibility is something she can’t handle all alone” Devon said worriedly.
“Why are you so worried about that when you’re here? We’re here. We will help her get through it. It will be an honour to us if Emma becomes the next true Alpha” Kent said and Devon sat down.
“Now that’s where the problem lies. My Luna can’t be my rival” Devon said silently and Kent looked at him.
“There’s nowhere such rule lies so don’t overthink things. Let’s go have a look at what is going on” Kent said and Devon nodded negatively.
“You go ahead,” Devon said slowly.
“Sire, it would be advisable that you talk to Emma when the meeting is over. I’m pretty sure, Emma will love to hear your opinion on things and how you feel about all this. It wouldn’t be easy for you as well, we all hoped you were going to be the next true Alpha but things changed in a blink of an eye”
“It’s not certain yet so go stand next to her, she might need you there,” Devon said and Kent bowed before leaving.

Emma got down to the conference room and everyone was all seated.
“If I may ask, what’s the meeting for? Because I don’t remember giving out invites” Emma said and walked to her seat.
“We’ve all thought hard on this before coming here. You showed everyone your birthright and it rose curiosity in our minds. Were you born with a wolf fang as a birthright or it was given to you as a reward?” Alpha Grant questioned and Emma smirked before taking her seat.
“If that’s what you came all the way here to ask then I think you’ve wasted your precious time. A question you’ve all answered in your head, why did you come all the way just to confirm that?” Emma asked.
“You have no idea how important the wolf fang dagger is to werewolves. That indicates the chosen one and if you have that then that means you’re the chosen one” Grant added and Emma laughed awkwardly.
“You don’t mean it right? Chosen one? What do you mean by that?” Emma asked seriously.
“You’re the next true Alpha” Alpha Jackson spoke up and Emma looked at him in shock.
“What did you just say? What do you even mean? Just because I have a wolf fang dagger as a birthright doesn’t mean I’m worthy of being the true Alpha. You all don’t seize to come up with ridiculous conversations and decisions when it comes to alpha Devon and me. Where in the world was it written that I’m the chosen one just because of a wolf fang dagger? Even Alpha Devon my husband, possesses one and he was born with it” Emma said and everyone gasped and began to murmur to themselves.
“If that’s the case then why isn’t he here? Alpha Devon is smart, he probably knows the reason why we’re here and what we plan to say to you but why isn’t he here? He should come to add to the discussion as well. We can only believe he was born with it if he shows it to us all” Alpha Grant said seriously.
“Why would Alpha Devon lie about such a thing if it’s false? Of course, he was born with a wolf fang” Emma tried to convince and Grant turned to Kent who was at the side.
“What do you say beta Kent? Have you ever seen the alpha’s birthright? Do you know he has it? For how long has he had it with him?” Alpha Grant asked coldly.
But Kent kept mute and looked at Emma, who was eager to cover up for Devon.
Alpha Devon walked into the conference room.
“Speak of the devil” alpha Jackson uttered.
Devon walked up to Emma’s sit and placed his hand on her shoulders.
“I’m sorry Emma but I wasn’t born with one. You’re the only one in this room who was born with a wolf fang” Alpha Devon said calmly.
“What? But minutes ago you said you were born with one. Did you lie about that? But you’ve never lied to me before” Emma said in a low tone.
“I didn’t lie to you but no one will believe it even though I accept. If it can’t be proven then it’s void” Devon whispered to her.
“You’ve finally been put in your place. How does it feel being overruled?” Grant scorned and some of the alphas mocked.
“Don’t forget you’re still in Grey pack so you all should watch what you say?” Kent said seriously and everyone looked away.
Emma kept her eyes fixed on Devon remorseful.
“According to the prophesy, a wolf fang can’t be owned by two werewolves at the same time so it’s either true or false. And alpha Devon’s intervention just cleared up the big chaos that was about to take place” Alpha Jackson spoke up.
“So according to the customs. Luna Emma will be crowned the true Alpha and she will be taking over the grand hall but she can’t do so if the elders there, are still breathing. She swore never to go back there so if the rituals should take place, they will all have to be executed. Not a single soul be will spared” Alpha Devon said coldly and everyone looked at him in shock.
“Executing all the elders is a bit too extreme. We shouldn’t go to such an extent. We can still renown the words of the Luna” Jackson cut in.
“How do you plan on doing so? If you think executing them because of Luna’s oath is extreme then how about I give you other reasons for them to be executed” Alpha Devon said and they became to murmur to themselves.
Grant looked at everyone and had a glance at Devon’s mean look and then he clenched his fist.
The assassination issue can’t be brought up here. Grant said in his head cautiously and then he raised his hand.
“Alpha Devon wasn’t wrong about what he said. After all the life of the alpha’s heir was threatened and we were all witness to that. They watched Luna swear on her birthright and none of them pleaded for mercy. Do you think sparing their lives is adding any dignity to the royals? What if such an incident repeats itself and it happens to any one of you? I’m pretty sure, you wouldn’t stay calm if such happened” Grant said and they nodded positively.
“So let’s do the right thing and bring back peace to the twelve pack. We’ve found the true Alpha and that shows it’s time for change to occur. After all, change is already taking place. Luna Emma will be the first Luna to ascend as a true Alpha” Grant said and everyone applauded.
“You’ve made the right choice” Devon smiled.
Emma stood up from her seat with a blank expression on her face.
“This meeting should be adjoined and I haven’t agreed yet if I wish to be the true Alpha. After all, positions like this should be worked for and not inherited. You can’t make decisions for me, only I got the right to decide if I should proceed or not. But before anything, the elders should be executed. We have absolutely no idea who will be their next target” Emma said and swiftly walked out of the room.
“Emma!” Devon called out but she didn’t turn around.
Alpha Devon ran after her and everyone sighed tiredly.
“Being a true Alpha might be a huge responsibility and burden for you all but it isn’t right to quickly drop your bat on anyone. This visit was unannounced but I will advise you all to take your leave now so you can get to your various homes before sunset” Kent said and left the room as well.
“So full of themselves. We’re not just looking for somewhere to drop off our responsibility. Everyone’s dying to have such an opportunity” One of the alphas said sarcastically.
“If you think everyone’s dying to have that opportunity then ask anyone here if they’re ready to bear all the consequences it carries. Being a true Alpha doesn’t end there, you will have to fight for everyone and be first on every war front. You will have to hold your life in your hands because you will be scared to the bone that it might be taken away from you by your enemies. Being in that position exposes you to more danger so don’t assume things for others” Alpha Jackson said seriously then walked out of the room.
Jackson walked around in the pack house and he watched Emma from afar, crying her eyes out silently.
“Why’s she sobbing? These whole scenarios don’t give room for tears but why’s she sobbing silently” Jackson questioned as he saw tears dropping off Emma’s chin.
“Emma, what’s wrong?” Devon asked as he ran to her.
Emma ignored him as she wiped off her tears smoothly.
“Do you also believe I deserve to be the true Alpha?” Emma asked and looked up at Devon.
Devon bites his lower lips trying so hard to harden his sadness and worries.
“Why don’t you believe it? This is an opportunity you owned by your birthright. Of course, you deserve it. Yes, I’ve worked hard all my life to get there but since fate isn’t in my favour then you should accept it. After all, it’s similar to me being there although we will have to keep a little distant so one of us doesn’t get hurt” Devon said calmly and Emma looked at him curiously.
“What do you mean? Why are we going to get hurt?” Emma questioned and Devon hugged her gently.
“Don’t worry about that and take your time and think about everything gently. I believe you will make the right decision” Devon advised.
I wish you don’t accept it. It might be a tempting position for those who don’t have power but I can’t jeopardize your safety all in the name of gaining power. I might lose you as well if we push any harder but there’s no way I will let that happen so please Emma, think things through. I don’t wish to sound so obvious if I pour out my heart to you. Devon said in his head.
Jackson watched the whole scene from where he was standing.
Will this last if Emma agrees to be the true Alpha? This will all end when she steps her foot into the grand hall once again. Jackson said in his head with a cold look in his eyes.
