CHAPTER 39
Next morning…
Basil is all dressed up and waiting at the training field while Abe sat at a bench going through a book.
“You look so motivated” Abe teased and Basil shook his head playfully.
“What’s his name?” Basil asked out of the blue and Abe glanced at him.
“Who?” Abe asked.
“No one, never mind” Basil uttered and Abe smiled.
“You accepted to go to Crust pack just because of those silly rumours. What if I tell you, I made all that up just you change your mind about staying back?” Abe asked and Basil glared at him.
“You won’t go that far just to piss me off right? You don’t know the prince so how can you make up such a story?” Basil asked seriously.
“Of course, I know Prince Ambrose. I’ve visited crust pack on so many occasions although you refused to come along. Ambrose must have heard a lot about you that’s why he said some of those things but what he said wasn’t wrong. You’re always hiding in the grey pack. You don’t mingle or get involved in the competitions with other packs” Abe said and Basil stood up getting pissed at Abe’s words.
“It’s no one’s business if I refuse to leave wherever I am. I decide where and when I leave my pack. Why do they always concern themselves with other people’s business? I don’t give a damn about him so he should keep my name off his mouth” Basil said seriously then walked away.
“Aren’t you going to wait for your master?” Abe threw in and Basil turned around glaring at him.
“And where do you think you’re off to?” Alpha Devon’s voice echoed from behind.
“Sire” Abe called out and stood up from the bench he was seated.
“Father!” Basil called out in surprise at seeing Devon.
“Were you planning on running away or did you suddenly have a change of mind? Just so you know the grand meeting will be taking place in a week so where the hell were you running off to?” Devon asked with a blank expression.
“I wasn’t running off. I was only off to get some fresh air” Basil answered.
“But father where’s my master?” Basil asked and Devon walked forward.
“Abe, go pass my orders to the guards. All the entrances to the training ground should be locked down and no one is allowed to get in unless I say so” Alpha Devon ordered.
“Yes, sire,” Abe said and walked past Basil.
“Good luck” Abe mumbled to Basil as he walked past him.
“Father it’s not what I’m thinking right?” Basil asked in a shaky voice and Alpha Devon smirked.
“It’s exactly what you’re thinking. You said all you needed was a week to prove to me you’re indeed my son and you can do way better than the prince of crust pack who has been practically training all his life to be strong. Do you think you can beat him with just a week’s training? I’m hoping you weren’t bluffing when you said that in front of your mother and me” Alpha Devon said seriously and Basil wore a cold look.
“What are we starting with father?” Basil asked with full determination.
“Now that’s more like it” Devon uttered with a malicious smile.
……
Emma stood at the Pack’s house’s tallest balcony as she watched alpha Devon and Basil from afar.
“Now I feel bad for Basil? All this must be a blow to him” Emma said in a low tone with her hands crossed on her chest.
Charlotte walked in majestically and Emma turned to her.
“Seeing you here tells you’re back on your feet. I’m sorry, I didn’t drop by even once to check up on you. I’ve been way too busy to even step out of the pack house” Emma said and Charlotte pat her back.
“It’s okay, I saw the herbs you sent by. Of all times, I chose to get sick now but I’m fine now. It’s like I never got sick” Charlotte said and they both laughed.
“I will discuss it with the Alpha. You need to be removed from that place of work. It’s way too dangerous for you. Taking herbs we don’t even know where they were gotten from just to create medicines and helpful antidote to the pack” Emma complained and Charlotte smiled.
“Emma looks at me, I’m perfectly fine. I chose to work there because I believe that’s the only way for me to be of great help to the pack. After what happened to alpha Devon years back, we can’t let that repeat itself. What if such an incident occurs again and many of us got attacked that same way, it will be way too disastrous and that’s why I appreciate it that you thought of opening the medicine bureau years back”
“But that doesn’t keep you on a good path. I know working there is of great help to us but endangering your life just to save ours isn’t fair and I don’t appreciate it” Emma said.
“Emma, I’m fine and just so you know I’m not the one in charge of testing herbs. I only create antidotes and medicines” Charlotte said.
“Why do I find that hard to believe? I’ve seen you testing herbs before” Emma uttered and suddenly they heard a scream from the Training field.
“What’s going on over there?” Charlotte questioned as she tried to have a proper look.
“Oh my goodness, that’s the alpha and Basil. Will Basil be able to survive that? Emma, I think we should go talk the alpha out of it. I think the alpha is venting all his anger on your poor son” Charlotte panicked but Emma was so calm.
She didn’t even bulge.
“What are you waiting for? Let’s go” Charlotte added and Emma sighed sharply.
“It’s all for the best. Devon and I have been way too easy on him. Basil isn’t that weak he can take it all. He has great healing powers so the bruises will heal fast”
“When did you become so cold just like Devon? Basil is screaming his voice out and you’re not even moved. Are you sure Basil wasn’t adopted?” Charlotte asked and Emma chuckled.
“You sound very ridiculous whenever you’re worried. Basil shouldn’t scream, he should howl like a male not screams like a female. In a week, he will be standing in the midst of stronger and we’ll train werewolves of his age. It will be a bit disappointing if he can’t stand on his own and that’s what this training is about. Devon wouldn’t have decided to train Basil himself if it wasn’t that severe” Emma explained.
“Going to the grand hall and introducing him is all out of the blue like it was planned. Are you sure this isn’t one of their schemes to manipulate the Alpha?” Charlotte uttered.
“It might be because I find it suspicious as well. Getting Basil involved tells them they’ve got something under their sleeves. I think Basil will be getting a rival over there as well but who do you think will be coming up against us?” Emma asked lost in her thoughts.
“It’s obvious someone worthy enough to be placed first”
“And who would that be?” Emma asked.
…..
Days later…
It’s morning already. Basil is lying on his bed like a log of wood when Devon barged into his room.
“What are you still doing on your bed by this time of the day?” Devon yelled and dragged Basil out of the bed.
Basil fell on the floor and opened his eyes angrily. His eyes turned yellow out of anger but he didn’t go wild.
Devon smiled on seeing that. Basil stood up a bit confused about what just happened.
“Father, I controlled my wolf” Basil uttered slowly and Devon smiled widely.
“I saw that as well,” Devon said.
“Let’s hurry up father. Let’s head to the training field”
“We’re not training there today. You will be training elsewhere today” Devon said.
Minutes later they head to alpha Devon’s study.
“Father, are we training here today?” Basil asked curiously.
“Exactly,” Devon said and walked to the tallest bookshelf.
“You should read everything on this bookshelf. You should learn about our Pack’s history and everything you need to know about the grand hall. You’re not only training physically but also intellectually. You should be a knowledgeable all-rounder. You’re a fast learner so get to work. You’re not leaving this study room until you’re done with all of it” Devon ordered and Basil swallowed hard.
I’ve got my phone to keep me company so there’s no use complaining. Basil said in his head and a smile appeared on his lips.
Alpha Devon saw the smile on Basil’s lips and he stretch out his hand.
“Hand your cell phone over” Devon ordered and Basil frowned as he hand the cell phone over.
“If you wish to get out of here in time then put all your mind into it,” Devon said and left the study room.
The guards at the door locked down the doors to the study.
Time went by so quickly and it was almost sunset when Emma got back from the safe home for an investigation.
“Where’s Basil?” Emma asked one of his maids.
“He’s at the study. The alpha gave out his orders. No one is allowed to go into the study room” The maid said.
“Is that so?”
“Yes Milady”
“You can take your leave,” Emma said and went to Devon’s chambers.
She walked in slowly but Devon wasn’t there. She placed a call across to him.
“You’re not at your chambers or anywhere, where are you?” Emma asked over the phone.
“Kent and I left for the silver lake pack. We will be back before sunrise tomorrow” Devon said.

Basil sat on a couch with so many books surrounding him.
“When am I going to finish all this?” Basil groaned frustratedly and Emma walked into the study.
“Look how you’ve turned this place into a mess”
“Mother!” Basil called out in excitement about seeing Emma.
“Were you waiting for me to show up?” Emma teased and Basil nodded.
“Yes mother, I’m so bored. I thought father is my master so why did he leave me to all this? Isn’t he worried I might not understand some of the histories here? Shouldn’t he at least teach me some of it before leaving me to read and memorize them all by myself” Basil complained?
“It’s too late to complain. Your father knows reading and knowing things is a piece of cake for you and that’s why he left you to your fate but he’s only being hard on you. Take a look at this” Emma said and place a book on the table.
Basil picked it up.
“I see you’re done with almost all of it but I’m pretty sure that book will be of help to you. It’s a bit of a summary of everything on that bookshelf. All the histories you need to know have been summarised into that book” Emma said and Basil’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Wow, are you being a serious mother?” Basil asked with a wide smile.
“Of course, when you get out of here. You should go say thank you to Sophia, she summarised it herself since she knows of all the histories in her head” Emma said and Basil smiled brightly.
“I will just that mother. Thank you so much, mother. You’re the best of all. I will be done with this in no time” Basil said excitedly and he started reading the book.

Silver lake pack.
Alpha Devon and Kent got to the pack house.
“I don’t appreciate unnecessary invites so I’m hoping this visit is worth it,” Alpha Devon said coldly as they took their seats in the meeting room.
“Of course, it is,” Max said with a smile.
“You’ve learned some manners, that’s good” Kent scoffed and Max glared at him.
“You’ve gained back a little of your strength that’s good. Although you can’t stand on your feet for too long” Devon said to Grayson.
“Let’s go straight down to why I’ve called you here,” Grayson said.
“Sounds perfect to me,” Devon said.
“What do you think about making my daughter your daughter-in-law?” Grayson asked and Kent glanced at Devon in shock.
