CHAPTER 38
Alpha Devon and Emma head down to the Pack’s meeting room with mean expressions on their faces.
Leaving Kent and Basil in the sitting room.
“Beta Kent, do you have any idea what’s going on? I’ve heard a lot about how Alpha Grant and father aren’t on good terms but I have no idea how their grudges to that extent. What happened in the past?” Basil asked concerned.
“Well, it’s nothing serious for you to be worried about” Kent uttered.
“I’m not worried, I’m only concerned because this whole scene looks suspicious. If Alpha Grant and father are enemies then what gave him the nerve to come here? It’s all suspicious” Basil pointed out.
“Of course it’s suspicious and that’s why I didn’t go with the Alpha just in case he’s planning something dangerous, I can prevent that”
“Sworn enemies from birth or they suddenly became enemies when they’ve grown up?” Basil asked.
“What do you do with your free time?” Kent asked.
“I spend my free time with your son Abe. Why?” Basil asked curiously.
“I just don’t get it. You know nothing about the ins and outs of the grey pack and that’s why I asked you that. Little things you must have heard around from werewolves your age. You know none of it. Abe is the social one so he should teach you better” Kent sighed frustratedly.
“It’s not like I know nothing at all. I just don’t know the true story between my father and alpha Grant” Basil covered up.
“You don’t know about other things and that’s why I’m glad you accepted to leave your shield for the first time”
“This isn’t my shield. It’s my training ground” Basil said with a cold.
“I would have believed that I’d you took your training seriously”
“Don’t worry uncle, when I turn eighteen I will take my training seriously. Right now I’ve got no one fighting for my position with me and I’m not under any pressure. Both my parents don’t need me to keep Grey pack going and that’s why I don’t think it’s time for me to make training my top priority” Basil said bluntly and Kent shook his head.
“I guess he’s finishing up what his father didn’t” Kent chuckled silently.
“Uncle so what’s the history between my father and alpha Grant?” Basil asked again.
“You don’t plan on giving up on that question. Alpha Grant attempted to kill your father so many times and he failed at every of his attempt because your father is smarter and braver and worse of it all, Alpha Grant abducted the Luna on their wedding day” Kent narrated.
“Father’s anger is justified but what’s he doing here when he’s not welcomed here?” Basil asked.
“Isn’t it obvious? He’s here to taunt your father and plan on how to manipulate him”
“Will that even work? Father doesn’t look like he’s in for childish acts” Basil scoffed.
……
Alpha Devon and Emma were seated in their seats already.
“Why does it feel like either of you is happy to see me” Alpha Grant uttered with a glare.
“I gave out my orders that you shouldn’t be allowed in. You don’t even have legs to walk around so what the hell are you doing here?” Devon asked seriously and Grant clenched his fist.
“And who made me this way? Such sentence shouldn’t be coming out from you” Grant said furiously.
“Aren’t you tired? You’ve been saying that for the past eighteen years now. I think you drop it and tell me exactly what you’re doing here when you’re not welcome” Devon asked coldly.
Alpha Grant looked away as he swallowed back the words he was about to lash at Devon.
“I was sent by the elders from the grand hall,” Grant said and Emma chuckled.
“What’s funny?” Grant asked a bit offended by Emma’s actions.
“My bad, please go ahead with what you were saying,” Emma said holding back her mockery laughter.
“It’s been sixteen years now and you still haven’t introduced your son to the elders. For how long do you plan on hiding him” Grant said seriously.
“What are you scheming this time around I see no importance in introducing my son to those ungrateful elders and chiefs. They all left me after my last visit to the grand hall. They don’t have any right to tell me what to do” Alpha Devon said seriously.
“Even your father never neglected any of the 12-pack rules. When you turned sixteen Alpha Tyler introduced you to the twelve reigns so you must do that as well to your son. If you want him to be recognized as a royal” Alpha Grant said seriously.
“And why does it bother you if I refuse to introduce my son? Are you curious to know what my second child looks like? Well, I guess you will have to die of curiosity” Devon said coldly.
“Just because the elders never interfered with your business for the past eighteen years doesn’t mean they left you. You would have gotten lots of threats and you know exactly what I’m talking about. And if you think introducing your son to the world means nothing then you’re not benefiting from this because when other royals are standing, your son will have no right to utter a word even though you’re his father. Now the choice is left for you to make. The next grand meeting will be in a week so make up your mind before then. He will be meeting his mates there as well” Alpha Grant said seriously then stood up with the support of his clutches.
“And again, of course, I’m curious to know what he looks like. You refuse to take him out to mingle with other royals and everyone’s dying to see him and castigate you for your secretive attitude. Let’s see if he’s worthy of being the mighty Alpha Devon’s only child” Grant scorned then left the meeting room.
Emma bite her lower lips angrily and then ran out to Grant.
“Who do we have here?” Grant asked with a smile as he turned to Emma.
“Just came to remind you of something. If you do anything or come anywhere close to my family, I won’t go easy on you as the alpha did. You might probably lose your two legs then you won’t get the nerve to come spat rubbish” Emma threatened then walked away.
Alpha Grant laughed out loud then frowned with a vicious look in his eyes as he watched Emma leave.
Well, I didn’t stay quiet all these years just to get defeated by any one of you again. Grant said in his head angrily.
“Let’s see how you avoid this” Grant smiled.
…….
Basil came into the meeting room.
“He’s gone. Father, what’s his deal this time around?” Basil asked sarcastically.
“Basil this isn’t the time so head back to your chambers. Your mother and I need to discuss something urgently” Alpha Devon said seriously and Emma walked in.
“This isn’t just a decision we can come up with. Basil also has a say in this. If he wishes to go or not. Let’s leave the decision for him to make” Emma said and Devon looked at her tiredly.
“How can we discuss such a thing with him? Do you have any idea how serious this situation is? We can’t let Basil make a discussion on such a severe issue” Devon protested.
“Don’t tell me, you felt threatened by Alpha Grant’s words?” Emma asked seriously.
“It was a threat and I don’t wish to make Basil an outcast because of my past and anger. If I have to make a decision then I have to think about the future of our pack. This isn’t just me anymore, my son has been dragged into this fight and I can’t just make careless decisions” Alpha Devon said seriously.
“And nobody is asking you to make careless decisions. You’ve never felt threatened by Alpha Grant but I will try to understand that, you’ve got things to protect now and that’s why your perspective has changed but don’t force yourself into doing what you don’t want. Let’s give Basil a chance to decide for himself. He will be the one getting introduced to everyone after all” Emma said calmly and Devon looked at Basil who was wearing a blank expression on his face.
“Father, don’t you trust me?” Basil asked and Devon sighed tiredly.
“It’s not that I don’t trust you. I just don’t trust your attitude. Do you have any idea what your mother and I are discussing” Devon asked and Basil took a seat?
“I’m not that dumb, I read the mood of the room. I guess Alpha Grant came to remind father about my introduction at the grand hall” Basil uttered and Emma smiled.
“Thank you for being so smart like me” Emma smiled and Devon shook his head.
“It’s obvious he took it from me” Devon cut in and Emma glared at him.
“Father, mother, I will be fine. It’s just an introduction. It’s not even a big deal so why are you so worried father?” Basil asked.
“It’s not just some introduction. It’s just a disguise to test you and see what you’ve got. Basil, you’ve barely even learnt your basic fighting skills talk more about controlling your wolf. Now that’s where you’ve failed. You will be ridiculed and mocked by your fellow meets. You will grow up with such a disgraceful event. The elders will not test or check on your abilities but your mates will and that’s a rule you can’t avoid” Devon said worriedly.
“But I didn’t go through any of that when my introduction was done” Emma cut in.
“And that’s because you were a princess and your father made it clear that you’re not ascending after him but you will rule under him. Princesses don’t usually go through such rituals” Devon said.
“Father, why’s everything happening so fast? I thought I still had like two years more before training to be a perfect prince. Can’t the introduction be postponed?” Basil asked.
“You’re sixteen and I’m pretty sure the whole world knows of that already. Why are you suddenly pretending to be weak? Don’t forget the son of who you are. Whatever you do outside will be representing me so other than thinking of how to escape, you should think of a way to keep up with our reputation. I never planned to pressurise you into doing anything but the situation calls for it so sit up and accept any challenge on your way. You will be starting your training tomorrow” Devon announced and Emma smiled.
“Sounds fine with me. I might even be his master” Emma smiled.
“Now that request I decline. If you become his master, this wouldn’t be a challenge anymore and you’ve got lots of things on your hands to handle already. I heard of how great the son of the Alpha of crust pack is. He’s only eighteen but it feels like he’s worthy of taking after his father”
“That’s the same price I heard of that spreads silly rumours about me. How great can a gossip be?” Basil scorned.
“He joined the warrior team when he was just fourteen and that’s how great he is. You’re sixteen and you can’t even control your wolf. Do you see how much of a great prince he is? It’s like before he was born, he knew he was going to be an Alpha someday” Devon complimented and Basil frowned.
“I’m only this way because I didn’t have the zeal to pursue that but that doesn’t mean I can’t do greater things. Just watch father, I’m giving myself a challenge of just one week. That so-called prince can’t be that great. Father will be my master?” Basil asked with determination.
“You will find out tomorrow,” Devon said with a malicious smile.
“Alright, father. I will take my leave now” Basil said and stood up.
“You should retire early” Emma reminded.
“Yes, mother” Basil replied before leaving.
“That was quite a smart move” Emma chuckled.
“He needed a challenge to be motivated. That’s exactly how I live as well”
“But who will you assign to be his master?” Emma asked curiously.
“Myself,” Devon said and Emma’s eyes widened in shock.
