CHAPTER 37
Emma broke her hug with Charlotte.
She wiped off her tears.
“Emma” Charlotte called out as she noticed the look on Emma’s face.
“I’m fine, it’s nothing you should be worried about. I believe my child was killed. Do you believe that as well?” Emma asked looking at Charlotte and Charlotte hesitated before answering.
“I don’t know if it’s right for us to jump to conclusions like that. Just like the healer said, your baby suddenly ran short of breath and that’s the cause of his death. I guess the situation wasn’t found in time and that’s why that happened” Charlotte said slowly and Emma walked to her bed.
“He was lying just there next to me. I felt the warmth of his body, I felt his heartbeat racing bit by bit. I noticed nothing about him, he was looking just fine in my arms. If he wasn’t taken away from me, he probably will still be alive today. I didn’t even have a proper look at my baby’s face immediately after he was born” Emma said holding back her tears.
“Cry it all out. You’re not doing yourself any good if you keep it all in” Charlotte advised and Emma smiled.
“I’m not shading any more tears. I need to be strong for my baby. I feel so down and out of the world but I don’t think it’s right for me to throw a tantrum at a time like this. I’m the Luna so I should control my emotions with so many people around” Emma said and tears escaped her eyes, she wiped them off immediately.
“What the hell are you talking about Emma? You just lost your child and you’re saying you need to be composed in a time like this. Who does that? No one in their right senses will do or say a thing like that. Everyone in the Grey pack knows you’re mourning and it’s not a crime to be sad and who said the Luna doesn’t shed tears? Don’t listen to all that crap” Charlotte said and Emma cried silently without making a sound as tears rolled down uncontrollably.
“He was my first child, I was over the moon to have him in my arms next to the Alpha. I dreamt of watching him grow up and become a good-looking man although I was a bit curious about the gender I had the feeling in me that he was going to be a male” Emma said still weeping.
“I guess that’s one of the plans of the moon goddess. This is the end okay? You will get over this Emma, I’m sorry you had to go through this” Charlotte said in tears.
“I’m sorry as well for not fulfilling your wish of becoming an aunt” Emma cried.
“Come on Emma, don’t say things like that,” Charlotte said sadly and suddenly she became nauseous.
“Charlotte are you okay?” Emma asked as Charlotte held her mouth.
“I’m…” Charlotte couldn’t complete her statement when she ran to the washroom.
“Charlotte” Emma called out and ran to the washroom.

SHRED PACK…
Alpha Grant and his followers were all having a great time in his grand sitting room.
“Today happens to be one of my happiest days so far,” Grant said with a wide smile.
“But we didn’t succeed with our plans,” One of the followers said.
“Don’t ruin the mood okay? Yes, we didn’t accomplish our mission of executing Alpha Devon but something else happened in our favour” Grant smiled.
“Well, I guess that’s worth celebrating. He lost his child before even set his eyes on him. How cruel fate can be to him”
“He deserves every bad thing that comes his way. He’s heartless and losing his child isn’t the only cruel thing I wish him” Grant laughed wickedly same as some of his followers.
“How come no one is talking about how alpha Devon got out of his room before we arrived? We arrived at his chambers and it was completely cleared, there wasn’t any single guard protecting him. I remember getting a glimpse at him before going in but he suddenly disappeared when I went in” One of the followers cut in.
“Something sounds even more suspicious. How did Devon manage to leave his chambers when he has been unconscious for the past seven months? Jackson kept an eye on him and he confirmed our suspicions that Devon haven’t gained consciousness yet. Wait a minute where’s Jackson?” Grant asked curiously and everyone looked around.
“No need to look around. Alpha Jackson didn’t come here, to begin with. He had some emergencies at his pack. His Luna was in labour as well so I think after he was done with his mission in the grey pack, he went home immediately”
“Alpha Devon wasn’t even killed so what job do you think he got done? This is the first time I’m seeing him neglect our gathering. Regardless of whatever emergencies he had at his pack, he priorities our gathering more” Grant uttered suspiciously.
“Don’t tell me you’re beginning to be suspicious of him?”
“It’s obvious that’s what I’m thinking but Jackson isn’t like that and I’m suddenly sounding so ungrateful. He’s the reason we were able to get into the grey pack without getting caught but come to think of it, Jackson has never mentioned what he had against Devon. He only said he wants to revenge but he never spoke of what he’s avenging for” Grant said.
“Is that something we should put our interests in? Don’t you think we’re way too busy for that? We might be accomplices but everyone has his problems which have nothing to do with anyone so stop sounding like a betrayal and let’s celebrate to our heart’s content”
I might be sounding like the betrayer now but I’ve got trust issues and I get suspicious of whoever plays sneaky games behind my back. Grant said in his head seriously.
“Who cares about what Jackson does? We should only be worried about how to congratulate him on his first child. They’re all becoming fathers while we don’t even dream of such” One of the followers said and Grant smiled.
“I don’t wish to get an upcoming threat on the line and that’s why children aren’t in my plans” Grant smirked.
EIGHTEEN YEARS LATER…
GREY PACK…
Emma is seen in the Pack’s dungeon with criminals lined up in a straight line.
“I don’t wish to go far with this so admit to your crimes before I get serious,” Emma said coldly as she stood behind the criminals.
They trembled at Emma’s tone.
“We ask for your forgiveness, Milady. We will reflect on our actions and never take bribes from the neighbouring packs” The criminals apologized.
“For how long did you take bribes? But before you answer that, if it’s been 18 years since you started then you will die with my fangs but if it’s lesser than that then you will die by my claws because according to the rule I created ever since I became the Luna, bribes are one of the most deadly so none of you will survive this” Emma declared and the criminals trembled even more.
“So for how long have you been taking bribes?” Emma asked again.
Minutes later Emma came out of the dungeon and her maid handed her a handkerchief.
Emma wiped off the blood on her hands.
Sophia joined her on the way heading back to the pack house.
“You seem happy. Did something good happen today?” Emma asked without even looking.
“You don’t even know what my face looks like today. Should I say you should pay more attention to us all around you” Sophia said jovially and Emma scoffed.
“Is there any reason for me to think about what you just said right now?” Emma asked with a blank expression.
“Not at all and I don’t even deserve that. You’ve got lots of things to deal with. How was the case with the criminals? You strictly demanded you handled the case” Sophia inquired.
“Of course, I needed to look into that myself. From now on, I don’t wish to come over to the dungeon so whoever goes against the rules should be executed without second thoughts” Emma said coldly.
“Yes, Milady” Sophia responded.
“And again what were you planning on telling me earlier? Why are you happy today?” Emma asked as she had a glance at Sophia.
“Well, I guess your son had something to do with it” Sophia smiled and Emma swiftly looked at Sophia with curiosity written all over her face.
“Basil?” Emma asked curiously.
“Yes, Basil. He agreed to visit crust pack along with the warriors in training” Sophia said with a smile.
“He did?” Emma asked in shock.
“Yes, he agreed to. I guess he decided to save me the stress of chasing him all around” Sophia smiled.
“Well, I don’t think I can believe that since it’s coming from an outer source. I will confirm this information directly from Basil” Emma said and walked away in a hurry.

Alpha Devon, Kent and Basil are seated in the grand sitting room.
“How did I end up getting a son like you?” Alpha Devon asked sarcastically and Basil rolled his eyes.
“I was told, father you were more excited when I was brought into this world. What’s so bad about not accepting your decisions for me? I accepted to go to Crust pack because I kinda heard some weird rumours coming from there and I’m not letting that slide” Basil uttered bluntly.
“Well, that’s nothing for you to worry about. You might end up dragging beta Kent down there with you. You’re a prince and spreading peace should be your uppermost priority” Alpha Devon said and Kent looked at him.
“Is it just me or have I just realized that ever since Basil came into our lives? I suddenly turned to the good guy. I wouldn’t take your attitude if you had come earlier” Devon said seriously.
“Father, you take things seriously and why are you so bothered with what I do? I’m not even up to age for you to look into my every move” Basil uttered and Devon bite his lower lips frustratedly.
“So rude” Devon mumbled.
“Sire, cut him some slack. He has been behaving himself so far and that’s for the better” Kent cut in.
“You know what pisses me off the most. I don’t even know why I’m pissed whenever I hear he did something wrong at the academy. Can’t you just behave? I wasn’t this way when growing up” Alpha Devon couldn’t complete his statement when Emma rushed into the sitting room.
“Basil, did you agree to go to Crust pack for the training?” Emma asked curiously and Basil stood up from where he was sitting.
“Mother, you need to catch your breath. Why’s everyone so shocked that I agreed to leave Grey pack for the first time”
“Exactly, you agreed to leave for the first time at age 16 and that’s why we’re all baffled but why did you agree to go with them?” Emma asked curiously.
“Come on mother, are intentions are obvious. I agreed to go with them so I can fulfil my duties. It feels like I’m the only one not doing the right thing”
“And he heard the son of the alpha of crust pack has been doing great at fulfilling his princely duties” Alpha Devon cut in and Basil pouted.
“That’s not what happened mother. That brat of a prince has been spreading rumours about me which everyone finds interesting and for a weird reason. I have no idea what he looks like or what he wants from me. He doesn’t even know me. Abe knows everything about him though” Basil said sarcastically.
“Are you saying Abe told you about the prince and you felt challenged?” Emma teased and Devon scoffed.
“You got it right” Alpha Devon teased and a call came in through Devon’s phone.
“Yes,” Alpha Devon said after picking up the call.
“What does he needs my presence for? Can you tell him to leave immediately” Alpha Devon said seriously over the phone and Sophia rushed into the sitting room.
“Sire, I don’t think Alpha Grant is ready to bulge. He’s furious” Sophia announced.
Alpha Devon clenched his fist angrily.
Basil looked at his parents not getting in a serious mood.
