CHAPTER 34
Lydia scoffed at seeing Kent’s claws grow out.
“Will that work on me?” Lydia sneered looking away.
“You think so little of me and that hurts my ego. Don’t forget I challenged you a lot when we were little and you never won against me not even once so what makes you think you will get away today?” Kent asked seriously and Lydia chuckled.
“If my father didn’t have high hopes for me and see me worthy of his position, I wouldn’t have been left the throne to take over. Who do you think you are to challenge an Alpha female? Are you trying to anger me because it’s working? I hate it when you taunt me based on the past” Lydia said angrily.
“I don’t care” Kent uttered sarcastically and Lydia jumped on him, she was about to throw him a punch when Kent shoved her away.
“Is that all you’ve got? So weak” Kent mocked and Lydia rushed him again but Kent gave her a cut on her face.
“Kent!” Lydia screamed as blood dropped from her right cheek.
“Like I said before you’re not leaving the grey pack alive. Your cousins were right about you not fitting into the leading role” Kent cursed and Lydia howled angrily.
“I only tried to teach Emma a lesson and get rid of the baby she’s carrying, I’ve got nothing to do with the alpha’s attack. We should talk about that not getting my personal life involved in this” Lydia yelled and suddenly Lydia gushed blood out of her mouth.
Kent’s eyes widened in shock and Emma walked forward with anger written all over her face.
“Your death will be unlike you expect it. I will relate your last message to your cousins” Emma said coldly and in a blink of an eye, Emma slit her throat.
“She’s not leaving the grey pack alive,” Emma said with mean eyes.
“I thought you were discussing with Charlotte” Kent uttered.
“She’s just like Devon so ruthless. Let’s see the kind of kingdom the both of you will build” Lydia managed to utter as she slowly lost her breath.
“You’re ruthless and heartless for wanting to harm my unborn child. You could have done other things, why kill my child?” Emma screamed and Kent ran to grab her a glass of water.
“You need to take a deep breath and for what just happened to Lydia, she deserved it. But I don’t think the alpha will appreciate it if you get yourself involved in stuff like this. In your current state, you should always keep a peaceful mind” Kent said and Emma gulped down the glass of water.
“Did you just say peaceful mind? There’s no way I will have a peaceful mind not when the alpha is still lying unconscious” Emma said calmly.
“More reasons why you need to keep calm. Grey pack is solely in your care. You have to take over the responsibilities of our pack” Kent said and snapped his fingers.
Some guards rushed in and carried Lydia’s body away.
“Aren’t you jumping to conclusions yet? The alpha has only been unconscious for two days and you’re already shifting his responsibility to me. That’s not positive” Emma rebuked.
“If the news of the Alpha goes public. We will be getting lots of threats from other packs and that will put our lives in danger so till the alpha recovers, you cover up and take care of the Pack’s affairs” Kent said.
Emma shut her eyes for a second then opened them.
“I know nothing about getting in control. Aren’t you scared I might screw things up?” Emma asked nervously.
“Why are you suddenly nervous? You didn’t hesitate when you put Lydia in her true place and that’s exactly the kind of spirit a leader should have. You’ve proven to be courageous and you did that because you had your family in mind and I believe you will protect us in place of Devon” Kent said with a half smile.
“Don’t you think you’re putting so much hope on me? I might end up disappointing everyone” Emma said in a low tone.
“I’m not that good with advising or encouraging anyone so please don’t force me to. You’re the Luna and I shouldn’t be telling you this but I have to because I know Sophia didn’t tell you any of this but it’s fine, you can learn” Kent said and his phone started ringing.
“Yes, you’ve heard it wrong. There’s nothing wrong with the alpha. If you have any latest report on the north entrance, I will direct you to the Luna” Kent said over the phone.
“And again, don’t go spreading rumours of what never harmed. You know how brutal the alpha can be when such rumours go around” Kent said and hung up.
Emma sat down to catch her breath with so many thoughts running through her mind.
Whoever did this to Devon can’t go scot-free. If the chiefs and elders were involved in this, I can’t forgive them for that. I’m sorry father but I won’t let this go and I’m sorry if I end up making them meet their end. I’m slowly going to choose the path fate is directing to me and that’s accepting what I feel for alpha Devon. Emma said in her head.
“Excuse me, milady. You have to come to take a look at something outside the pack house” Kent announced and Emma stood up.
“What?” Emma asked.
“The mayor just approved of our request and they’ve arrived at the site,” Kent said and Emma smiled widely.
“Are you being serious?” Emma asked with a wide smile.
“Of course, let’s go take a look” Kent added and they head to the construction site.
“I think it will be built beautifully and our time for going to the mayor’s town will be worth it,” Emma said with a smile.
“Definitely and this will make production in the grey pack more progressive,” Kent said with a half smile.
“The alpha would have been more excited if he was standing here with us right now,” Emma said with a faint smile.
“He probably saw it already or he’s even dreaming about it right now” Kent comforted.
“I wished that worked but too bad it didn’t”
“It’s okay” Kent muttered.
Next day…
Emma rushed to the study room the next day.
“I can’t mess this up. I’m almost there” Emma said anxiously and Kent came into the study.
“What are you doing here? You should be resting” Kent said and Emma rolled her eyes.
“This isn’t the time for me to rest. The alpha is still very much unconscious and we still haven’t gotten to the root of his attack and I won’t rest till I get to the root of it” Emma said seriously.
“I said I will handle it so please go back to your chambers. We can’t endanger your life and the alpha’s heir because of justice” Kent complained.
“Even the alpha wouldn’t nag me this way so let me do what I think is right and you told me, the whole responsibility of grey pack is on my shoulders. If I can’t even get justice for the Alpha then I’m not worthy of being in charge. Take a look at these portraits” Emma said and handed over the portraits she drew.
“Who are these?” Kent asked curiously.
“These are the portraits of the elders and chiefs of the shadow pack who are still alive. Since we’re suspecting the shadow mask have something to do with the alpha’s attack then it’s better to silence those who are involved. I don’t give room for wrongdoing and this is the only way to set things right” Emma said.
“You’re trying to say some of these werewolves are members of the shadow mask?” Kent asked and Emma nodded.
“Since they might be members, they may have some sort of symbol on them so get them with that. I can’t go with you, I have to be right next to the Alpha” Emma said and Kent smiled.
“I’m glad you switched sides with us. Thank you for choosing the right path” Kent said politely.
….
SEVEN MONTHS later…
Weeks and Months went by and it’s seven months already.
The construction building has positively progressed rapidly.
Emma is seated in the alpha’s study room.
She was so enclosed with reports and so many construction blueprints.
Sophia walked in with her head down.
“Greetings Milady” Sophia greeted and Emma raised her head since the voice didn’t sound so familiar.
“Sophia” Emma called out then dropped her pen.
“Apologies, Milady”
“Why the apologies? You only returned after so long. I’m pretty sure you’ve gotten enough rest and you’ve cleared your head” Emma said coldly.
“My apologies for not returning sooner,” Sophia said slowly.
“Why are you suddenly sounding so polite? You’ve never trusted or believed in me so what happened? If you decided to make it, you wouldn’t return to the pack house, right? But since you’re here, you should get down to work” Emma ordered and she slowly stood up.
Sophia smiled seeing how heavier Emma have gotten.
“What’s the smile for?” Emma asked.
“I accept for being wrong. I misjudged you because of your background and I disrespected you because I thought you didn’t deserve it and it even became worse when I found out you were pregnant for the Alpha. I thought you would get rid of the baby as well as the Alpha. I’m sorry for misjudging you” Sophia said politely.
“Well, I never expected an apology from you because I believe you did so because you cared so much for the Alpha and I don’t blame you for that but you should know when to stop because I know so well what kind of life I would be living now if I had pushed through with the things you were thinking,” Emma said.
“I don’t trust easily but for the past few months, I’ve heard a lot about your work and achievements you’ve done in a grey pack. Thank you for that”
“Don’t thank me for that, I only do what’s right and protecting this pack is my responsibility as well?” Emma said and her handkerchief dropped on the floor.
“Let me,” Sophia said and swiftly picked it up for Emma.
“So why are you back? You won’t possibly plan on working with me right?” Emma asked.
“Of course, I want to work with you. After all, that has always been my duty to serve you and I’m here to do that properly” Sophia said.
“I have trust issues as much as you do so don’t expect too much from me. I only trust myself” Emma said coldly.
“I’m not asking for your trust. Just allow me to pledge my loyalty to you and the Alpha. The alpha needs me to be by your side right now”
“I see that your loyalty always lies with the alpha but where were you when you heard of the alpha’s attack” Emma uttered sarcastically.
“I dared not come over to confirm the news because Kent was busy silencing anyone who brings it up and I needed time to clear my head up and that’s exactly what I did. I don’t have any right to have feelings for the alpha or expect any back” Sophia said slowly.
“If you wish to pledge loyalty to me, you should first get rid of what you feel for the alpha and then we can start talking,” Emma said coldly.
“I’ve gotten rid of the unrequited love and that’s exactly why I’m back because I’m betrothed to someone else,” Sophia said.
“What! Sophia when did all that happen?” Kent asked curiously as he walked into the study.
“Months back. I’m sorry for just returning now” Sophia apologized and Kent smiled at her.
“You did the right thing by letting go of the Alpha. I’m glad you’re back as well” Kent said with a half smile and just then Emma collapsed.
Kent and Sophia’s eyes went wide open in shock as they saw Emma lying on the floor unconsciously.
“Emma!” Kent called out anxiously then ran to her.
“Milady!” Sophia called out in shock as well.
