CHAPTER 35
Emma was rushed to her chambers after she collapsed.
The healer was summoned.
“They may start talking. The healer now visits the pack house so frequently” Charlotte whispered to Kent and he sighed deeply.
“We’ve got no choice but to put their health first. I’m wondering why Emma collapsed out of the blue. I’m hoping it’s nothing serious to be worried about” Kent uttered worriedly.
“Emma is just too stubborn to be convinced otherwise. I tried talking her out of working so much and she fails to listen to me” Charlotte said with a frown.
“It’s all my fault, I pushed her into this. I was the one who told her to take care of the grey pack. I placed this huge burden on her shoulders and I feel terrible for even doing that” Kent said in a low tone and the healer walked up to where they were standing.
“How’s Luna feeling now?” They both threw in anxiously.
“The Luna is exhausted and it’s pretty obvious that she overworked herself and that’s not good for her health. She needs absolute rest so she can go through delivery safely and sound. She shouldn’t lift a finger if she gains consciousness” The healer instructed.
“Of course, noted,” Kent said and the healer bowed before leaving the room.
Kent and Charlotte looked at each other like they read their minds.
“How’s the Luna?” Sophia asked curiously as she ran into the room.
“She’s exhausted” Charlotte uttered and Sophia’s gaze landed on Emma.
“I saw the healer leave and she wasn’t looking so good. She wore a frown as she left” Sophia said and Kent sighed frustratedly.
“It seems like the healer is upset because we didn’t stop the Luna before it got to this stage. She’s upset we don’t take her instructions and advice seriously” Kent said and Sophia bite her lower lip thinking hard about what to do next.
“The Luna wouldn’t listen to anyone if she woke up and she will go back to working her butt off. Emma doesn’t listen to anyone when she’s determined to do something” Charlotte exclaimed.
“If that’s the case then how about we do something else I think that will work on the Luna” Sophia uttered and they both looked at her a bit confused about what she meant.
“What do you have in mind?” Kent asked curiously.
“First put a call across to the healer then I will tell you what I have in mind,” Sophia said with full determination.
Kent placed a call across to the healer.
“Here,” Kent said and hand the phone over to Sophia.
“Can you keep Luna’s condition a secret from her till she is put to bed? For us to persuade Luna into getting enough, can you tell Luna her baby is in a critical condition and she needs absolute bed rest for her to have a safe delivery” Sophia said over the phone and Kent and Charlotte looked at each other still not getting what Sophia meant?
“Of course, I will cooperate willingly as long as the future of the grey pack lies in Luna’s hands,” The healer said over the phone and Sophia wore a half smile.
“That’s wise of you and we’re all chasing the same go and that’s the health of the Alpha and Luna” Sophia said.
“Luckily you’re back Sophia, I believe the Luna will listen to whatever I tell her”
“Of course, have a nice day then,” Sophia said and hung up.
“Lying to the Luna? What if she finds out and gets upset?” Kent asked curiously.
“I don’t think Sophia’s suggestion is that bad. That’s the only way we can stop Emma from working so much and neglecting her health. There’s no way she would listen if we tell her the healer said she needs absolute bed rest. Currently, the grey pack is Emma’s priority so Sophia’s suggestion is the best we can make use of now. Emma will be due in a few months” Charlotte said seriously and Kent nodded slowly.
“I’m not in support of lies but since you’re all in support of it then I think it’s worth a try,” Kent said and Charlotte and Sophia smiled.
“That’s more like it,” Charlotte said with a smile.
Hours later…
Emma gained consciousness and slowly sat up on her bed.
“She’s awake” Charlotte announced and they all stood up from the couch they were seated and they ran to her.
“Emma, how are you feeling now?” Charlotte asked curiously.
“Oh no, I’m done with reviewing the blueprints on the desk” Emma gasped as she tried to rush down from her bed but she felt a bit weak in her legs.
“Why does it suddenly feel weak?” Emma asked as she looked at her legs.
“And that’s exactly what the healer was trying to say. Emma, you can’t leave this room anymore until you are put to bed. The healer said you’re in a critical condition and you need absolute bed rest. The baby isn’t safe because of how stressed you are and it’s affected your health” Charlotte said in a low tone and Emma’s hands wrapped around her bump.
“It’s not true, right? You’re safe right?” Emma asked anxiously as she caressed her bump and Charlotte sat next to her and hugged her.
“It will be fine, you’ve got only a few months, you will be fine” Charlotte comforted.
“I still have so much I need to take care of. Why do you have to get sick now? What did I do so wrong to make me go through this? I was only trying to keep the grey pack stable and safe before Devon woke up” Emma said and tears dropped from her eyes.
“You can still take care of it while you are in bed. The beta and I will always give reports and feedback on everything going on” Sophia cut in and Emma sniffed.
“But I don’t think that will be enough” Emma complained.
Kent looked away as if he couldn’t partake in the drama.
“Emma, are you going to be like this? You act recklessly when important things are about to happen in your life. Don’t you trust the beta and chief Sophia? Don’t they look worthy to you? Do you wish to lose yourself and your baby for not putting your trust in them?” Charlotte scolded.
“But…” Emma couldn’t complete her statement when Charlotte.
“No buts, trust us and leave the grey pack to us. We will take care of it together so put yourself together and ensure the safety of your baby. If you lose your baby, your hard work wouldn’t be worth it so do what’s right” Charlotte said.
“Exactly Milady, you should look after yourself and I will handle the rest. I shouldn’t have pressured you months back when the alpha went into a coma. I forgot for a second that you were pregnant and needed to take care of yourself and the baby. So inconsiderate of me” Kent said in a low tone.
“It’s not your fault Kent. You only said those words to me because you found me worthy of being in charge so don’t blame yourself for it” Emma said.
Later at night…
Emma went to Devon’s chambers to see him. She lies next to him on the bed.
“I don’t want to admit it but I miss you a lot now than ever. I saw you in my dreams when I fainted. I guess you miss me so much too and that’s why you visited me in my dreams as well” Emma said with a smile.
“And that’s more reason why you should stand up and get on your feet. You’re not that weak and I believe you’re hearing me right now. You don’t wish to be here when our child comes into the world” Emma said and tears roll down her eyes.
“I’ve been so busy looking after everyone and I forgot to look after myself. We almost lost our baby due to my carelessness. That’s not fair, I’m the one who needs to be looked after but instead I’m looking after your clan and you”
“I think you should get up and look after me instead. I deserve that much for carrying our baby” Emma said and got up from the bed.
Emma had a glance at him once more before leaving the chambers.
“Still good-looking as well. Thank you for still looking good because that’s the source of my hope” Emma smiled and then left the room.
One of Devon’s fingers moved a bit.
****
Emma stood up at her window with a frown when Charlotte came into the room.
“Finally someone dropped by to see me,” Emma said with a frown.
“Come on, you sound like I don’t visit frequently” Charlotte laughed.
“It’s been a month and so now and it feels like I’m imprisoned in here. I can’t even go out for a walk. I don’t think this was what the healer meant when she said absolute rest and I believe my baby is doing fine now, I feel his kicks sometimes. Doesn’t that mean he’s fine now” Emma complained?
“You’re overthinking things, Emma. You’re becoming a mother soon and that’s enough reason for you to be cautious about your actions and the things you do. We can’t afford to put your life in danger when we’re all handling things perfectly. There’s nothing for you to do out there because everything has been taken care of” Charlotte said and Emma sighed frustratedly.
“I’m just tired of staying indoors always. It’s suffocating, don’t I deserve to get some fresh air at least”
“We all know exactly what you’re going to do when you leave the pack house. You will go visiting construction sites and that’s not safe for you”
“Fine” Emma exclaimed and then walked to her bed and sat down.
“Thank you for accepting” Charlotte smiled and Emma pouted.

SHRED PACK…
Alpha Grant was seated in the conference room with his followers from other packs.
“We’re all aware of the condition of the grey pack although it’s the topmost secret” Grant uttered.
“It’s supposed to be a good thing for us but I guess it’s not because the Luna is way more fierce than I expected” One of the werewolves uttered.
“I’m well aware of the in and out of the grey pack, all we need is the perfect time for us to get in and finish up Alpha Devon,” Grant said.
“Just like I said, the Luna is fierce and it wouldn’t be easy for us to get into the grey pack and I’m aware of that. All the entrances are being heavily guarded and carefully searched so there’s no way we can get in without being noticed”
“But I’ve got some mind control skills” Grant smiled and they all looked away.
“Why are you all quiet?” Grant asked.
“We would have been excited to hear that if you were still on your feet but the case is different now, you’ve been crippled and the grey pack warriors have been trained on how to resist mind control so it’s useless now”
Grant looked away as he clenched his fist.
“And that’s the reason for this meeting. I want to revenge for what Devon did to me and every one of us. If you’re going to run away or hide behind your shadows then I don’t think you should be here. I’m the only one coming up with suggestions and all you do is decline and reject my suggestions. If you think you’re wise enough why not come up with something” Grant yelled.
“Stop raising your voice, we’re all here because we’re chasing after the same goal so don’t think you’re the only victim here. We’re all against your suggestions because they’re not strong enough to get us in and out of the grey pack alive” One of the werewolves uttered.
“How about on the day the Luna is put to bed? So many guards will be guarding her and that will give us enough opportunity to get back at alpha Devon” Grant suggested and they all nodded.
“Now that sounds more like a plan”
Devon you will regret getting in my way and doing this to me. Grant said in his head angrily.
