CHAPTER 32
Kent’s building…
Kent opened his eyes slowly as he gained consciousness.
He looked around and saw Charlotte sitting next to him.
“Why are…” Kent managed to utter but Charlotte shut him up as she stood up.
“Why am I still here? Or how did you end up on the bed? Isn’t that supposed to be your question?” Charlotte asked.
Kent tried to sit up but he winced a bit. He had a glance at the spot Charlotte stabbed him, it was beginning to show some sign of healing.
“What’s going on? Why are you still here? I guess stabbing me wasn’t the only thing you have in mind” Kent said coldly.
Charlotte came closer to him and he gave her a suspicious look.
“I’ve avenged my parents and now I wish to move on with my life. You heal pretty fast and that’s why I made the cut a bit deep so you will be in pain for a while as I take care of you” Charlotte said softly.
“You know how dense I can be on such things so do you mind being a bit clearer”
Charlotte rolled her eyes and exhaled sharply. She grabbed Kent by his shirt closer to her and kissed him.
“Do you understand now?” Charlotte asked.
Kent smiled.
“I hope my pain right now covers up for your parent’s death and thank you for coming back to me,” Kent said with a wide smile.
“Shouldn’t you be a bit rebellious for what I did to you? Do you love me that much?” Charlotte asked and Kent nodded continuously.
“I don’t wish to make you feel what you felt in silver lake. I’ve got better plans for us and I don’t blame you for avenging your family. You promised you would and I expected it regardless, I just let my guard down at the sight of you after so long” Kent explained and Charlotte smiled.
“I noticed but I’m hoping you don’t treat me like Max did. If you ever do something like that, I won’t spare you and I’m trying to give myself another chance to live because Emma did the same. She also went through what I went through but she decided to give herself a chance and that’s exactly what I’m trying to do” Charlotte said slowly.
“You won’t regret making that decision. You did the right thing but I never knew you heard of Emma even at your hiding”
“And who said I went into hiding, I only travelled around to clear up my head which I regret doing because I wasn’t right by Emma’s side when she needed me the most. She must despise me right now for choosing to leave over her” Charlotte said in remorse.
“Don’t worry about that. I’m pretty sure she understands how you feel and she has been way too busy to have such thoughts”
“Busy? What kind of busy? How can she be busier than the alpha to even think about me? Your statement right now, really makes me feel not okay” Charlotte exclaimed and Kent chuckled.
“Of course, she should be busier than the alpha, after all, she’s carrying the alpha’s heir. Although she stays indoors always, she’s busier than it looks” Kent pointed out and Charlotte punched him lightly on his shoulders.
“I see, you’re trying to get back at me for acting a bit weak. Well, it worked” Charlotte whined then walked away.
“Where are you going?” Kent asked curiously.
“I’m leaving” Charlotte fakes a frown.
“But you just got here and you said you will look after me while I recover”
“I don’t remember saying that, I never said such. Did I mention something like that?” Charlotte asked as she pretended to not recall.
Kent got down from his bed and walked to Charlotte.
“What do you think I’ll do to you if you plan on disappearing again?” Kent asked with a blank expression and Charlotte smirked.
“Do I make you feel that insecure? Don’t worry yourself out, I’m not going anywhere. My family’s here and she’s what I need the most right now. I can’t leave Emma’s side not again” Charlotte said with a smile and she braced her arms wide open for a hug and Kent moved backwards.
“What? Hug me” Charlotte said.
“You’ve made me a bit traumatized about hugs, I don’t think it’s safe to hug you anymore. I’ve never liked hugs in the first place but now you’ve made me hate it even more” Kent said and Charlotte laughed and dragged into an embrace.
“I created your trauma so I will end it, I plan on hugging you even more in the future and that depends on how right you treat me” Charlotte pouted and Kent wrapped his arms around her.
“You plan on bringing out a new side of me and I’m willing to do that for your sake Charlotte,” Kent said with a smile.
……
Grey pack house…
Alpha Devon and Emma sat in his study room going through some projects when Devon broke the silence with a smirk.
Emma raised her head as she noticed the smile on Devon’s face.
“Does it make you feel so happy that I’m working with you in the same room?” Emma asked with a smile.
“Of course because you’re supporting me and you’re learning to be around me so it’s obvious I’m excited about that but that’s not the reason for the smirk” Devon pointed out.
“Oh really, so tell me what could be so amusing to make you smile out of the blue? I’m hoping you don’t tell me it’s about Lydia” Emma said with a blank expression.
“Relax, you take Lydia’s issue too personally. I’m pretty sure she’s the reason why you agreed to come work with me in Kent’s place. Lydia is just my friend, don’t get too cocky whenever I mention her name okay” Devon said and Emma rolled her eyes.
“Anyways, it skipped my mind. Charlotte is back” Alpha Devon announced and Emma’s eyes widened in shock.
“Are you being serious? When did that happen? When did she come back? Where’s she right now? Please don’t tell me you locked her up immediately after you set your eyes on her” Emma threw in so many questions.
“Charlotte’s with Kent. She gave quite a deep injury and she’s taking care of him”
“What!” Emma uttered dispiritedly.
“Why do you suddenly sound so down? What happened?” Devon asked staring at her.
“I can’t believe she chose to meet up with Kent before even seeing me. I had sleepless nights just thinking of her well-being. How can she think of a man immediately after she just arrived? Isn’t she worried about me? Has she forgotten about everything we had?” Emma questioned slowly.
“You’re taking it too personally. You didn’t even bother to ask what she went to do in Kent’s place?”
“Of course, I will take it personally because that’s what I feel. Whatever reason she went to Kent’s place, it’s nothing close to what we share and that should be her priority. I didn’t look for her because I thought she needed some space to think things through and now that she’s back, she immediately went to pursue her love life” Emma said as her eyes became teary.
“Come on Emma, you’re being too sensitive. Why are you being emotional about something like this? How on earth did you know Charlotte went to pursue her love life?” Devon asked and Emma sniffed in back her tears.
“I’ve always known Kent had something for Charlotte although he never showed it your attack on our clan said it all. Kent made his feelings obvious to all of us. Charlotte didn’t notice though” Emma explained.
“I guess I didn’t notice as well. I was completely dense about that” Devon said slowly.
“What are you even saying? That’s not the issue here, sire I think I’m about to lose my only friend to Kent. Do you think I should try talking Kent out of it so he lets Charlotte go” Emma said and Devon laughed?
“I never knew you could be this funny. I wouldn’t let you go if such a thing happened in my place either so drop it and wait for her arrival. She’s cleaning up her mess”
“What mess? She only arrived, what kind of mess has she caused again?” Emma asked curiously.
“She stabbed Kent. That’s treason because Kent is my beta. What do you think I should do to her for doing that? Should I kill her or throw her in the dungeon? Do you think Charlotte still holds ill intentions for the grey pack?” Devon asked and Emma stood up then walked to him. She held his hand.
“You’re not that heartless to finish up everyone around me. Charlotte is like my only family because she’s the only one who hasn’t gone against me or stabbed me although she went against me in the past she did that to help me. Why hasn’t Kent reported her yet if she stabbed him?”
“He’s crazy about her and I can’t help him if he’s completely against it and that’s why Charlotte is still alive” Devon explained and Lydia knocked at the door before coming in.
“Devon, can you spare me just a minute?” Lydia said with a smile.
“Of course”
Lydia walked to them.
“Hello, Emma” Lydia greeted and Emma moved aside.
“I will love to have our fingerprints now, I need to finish up the process just like we discussed,” Lydia said smiling and Devon glanced at Emma whose eyes were on them.
“Of course” Devon concurred and he placed his thumb on ink as well as Lydia and they made a heart shape on a marriage ribbon.
“What the hell is going on here?” Emma asked curiously as she noticed the ribbon and Lydia smiled at her.
“I’m sorry Emma for not telling you but my reason for coming to grey pack was to fake a marriage with the Alpha. Just like I said, I need to prove to my cousins my worth”
Emma clenched her fist.
“Is she saying the truth?” Emma asked facing Devon and he nodded sluggishly.
“How could you do something like this to me? You said I have the right. You agreed to push through with such a plan without my consent. Do I even matter to you?” Emma asked seriously.
“It’s not what you think Emma. It’s all farfetched. None of it is real” Devon explained as he stood up.
“It’s farfetched but you applying thumbprints on a marriage ribbon, something both of did even do. How do you expect me to feel? Your heir and I mean nothing to you and that’s what I just realized” Emma said and ran out of the study room without listening to Devon’s further explanation.
“Emma!” Devon called out to go after her but Lydia stopped him.
“This isn’t the right time to go after her. You might end up making it even worse” Lydia cut in and Devon frowned as he looked away.
“Lydia, what’s with the ribbon? Ribbons are to be used for legal weddings, not this. We never talked about using a ribbon. And again, we would have done this some other time. After all, you’ve got a month to stay here. We tried so hard to avoid something like this. We both know how sensitive and emotional pregnant she-wolves get so how could you be so… Ahhh! Never mind” Devon groaned frustratedly then walked out of the study room.
I’m just getting started. Lydia said in her head with a smile.
She placed her phone on her ears.
“Do it now” Lydia ordered over the phone and hung up.
…..
Emma ran to the backwoods with tears rolling down her cheeks.
“I’m such a fool. I fell completely for him, I couldn’t even hold myself back even a little and that’s why he made a fool out of me. He didn’t even come after me” Emma said angrily.
Alpha Devon went out of the pack house.
“Where did she disappear to?” Devon questioned looking around.
Some guards ran to him.
“Sire, we’ve got some Intruders” The guards announced.
“Where’s the Luna?” Devon asked curiously.
“She might be in the woods”
“Protect the Luna with everything you’ve got” Alpha Devon yelled.
