CHAPTER 30
The mayor town…
It’s morning already. The mayor and his subordinates were all seated in the grand sitting room as they discussed the contract with the Grey pack.
“Greetings everyone” Kent greeted as he walked in with Emma next to him.
“Milady, hope you had a peaceful night?” The mayor asked as he stood up and lead Emma to her seat.
“Everyone dismisses, that will be all for today,” The mayor said to his subordinates.
“Yes sir,” They said and left the sitting room.
Kent took his seat and the mayor sat next to Emma as he kept on staring at her.
“Sir, you had a pleasant night as well right?” Emma asked with a smile.
“Of course, I did” He answered with a wide smile.
“No offence but what do you see in Alpha Devon that pushed you into getting married to him? You’re way too beautiful to …” The mayor couldn’t finish his statement when Kent cut in.
“The contract should be signed before you have a change of mind. Don’t you think so” Kent said politely and the mayor swallowed back his words.
“The mayor seems to be a man of his word. I believe he wouldn’t do such a thing, he’s way too generous for that” Emma smiled.
“Of course, beta Kent you have trust issues. Why would I have a change of mind at the last minute? I wouldn’t do that not after Luna Emma visited me herself on behalf of it” The mayor said with a smile.
“Thank you so much sir,” Emma said politely.
“The pleasure is mine”
…..
Emma and Kent head back to Grey pack after signing the contract with the mayor.
“Our trip was a successful one all thanks to me and I expect you to think highly of me from now on. You shouldn’t belittle me anymore because I’ve shown my worth. My present alone, makes the table turn” Emma bragged and Kent smirked.
“Are you that desperate to make me think highly of you?” Kent asked.
“What do you mean desperate?” Emma asked as she glared at him.
“That’s called desperation but too bad, I’m not ready to bulge. If you call your compliment and flirting with the mayor a move or a way to make the table turn then you don’t deserve any credits. You only used cheap tricks on him so don’t feel…” Kent said bluntly and paused as he noticed the fire piercing through Emma’s eyes.
“Don’t bother. Who cares about what I say” Kent stuttered and Emma looked away.
Grey pack…
Emma and Kent went into the pack house and they heard a burst of loud laughter coming from the alpha’s sitting room.
Seems like they’re guests. I’ve never heard the Alpha laugh so hard. Emma said in her head and she turned to Kent to utter a word.
“I knew we will be having a guest so don’t bother asking,” Kent said and went into the sitting room before her.
Emma rolled her eyes.
“What an irritating attitude” Emma hissed then went in as well.
“Sire” Kent called as he sat down.
“Say hello to Lydia” Alpha Devon said with a smile and Emma scoffed as she joined them.
“I wasn’t notified we will be having a guest,” Emma said sarcastically.
“Welcome back Emma,” Devon said softly.
“I was kinda worried something happened to you and that’s why you didn’t welcome me after my first important trip,” Emma said with a blank expression and Kent looked at her, surprised at her attitude.
“I guess we will have to talk about that some other time since we have a guest here, we shouldn’t neglect her presence”. Devon pointed out and Emma took her seat.
“Emma says hello to ..” Devon hasn’t completed his sentence when Emma cut in.
“Lydia the alpha of the ghost pack” Emma cut in and Lydia smiled.
“That’s nice, the Luna got some information on her path. I’m sorry for coming without formal notice but I did tell alpha Devon I would be visiting” Lydia said politely and Emma looked away.
“Looks like everyone knows of your visit. I’m the only one who wasn’t informed” Emma said.
“It’s nothing like that Emma. You were on a trip and I don’t think I needed to tell you about Lydia’s visit, after all this isn’t the first time we’re having guests” Devon said.
“It’s nice to meet you in person Luna. I’ve heard a lot about you” Lydia said with a smile and Emma fakes a smile.
“Well, I’ve heard nothing about you so I wouldn’t reciprocate your gesture. Anyways welcome to grey pack and I hope you have a lovely stay in Grey pack” Emma said and stood up.
“You’re leaving already?” Lydia asked.
“For how long are you staying?” Emma threw in.
“Emma!” Devon called out getting irritated by her attitude.
“No need to get pissed. It’s not wrong of Luna to ask that. I will be staying for a few weeks till my cousins accept my enthronement” Lydia explained.
“Weeks? Was it really necessary to leave for them to accept your enthronement? Aren’t you giving them more reasons to take away what belongs to you, you’ve been the Alpha for the past few years now so what are they finding hard to accept?” Emma threw in so many questions and Devon looked away as he wore a frown.
“It’s complicated and I believe you wouldn’t want to hear about it right now. You look exhausted” Lydia pointed out and Emma nodded.
“You’re quite right. I’m exhausted so I’m sorry I can’t accompany you today. Let’s leave that for another day” Emma said and left for her chambers.
Kent exhaled loudly and Devon looked at him.
“You’ve got something in mind you would like to share?” Devon asked and Kent nodded negatively.
“The Luna is quite feisty” Lydia blurted.
“I’m sorry about her attitude. She normally doesn’t behave this weirdly around guests. I guess she’s having mood swings because of her condition” Alpha Devon said.
“Of course, I’m not offended. She’s probably stressed out because of her trip but I’m hoping she doesn’t freak out when she finds out about my intentions for coming here” Lydia said and Kent looked at Devon as curiosity filled his mind.
“You only arrived today you shouldn’t beat yourself over that. We will handle that when the time comes” Devon assured and Lydia nodded.
“The maids will show you your room. I have to go see if Emma is doing good. I believe we still have a lot to talk about” Alpha Devon said with a smile and he stood up.
“Once again have a great time in Grey pack,” Kent said and stood up with the alpha.
“Thank you,” Lydia said politely.
“We will leave now,” Devon said and they left the sitting room.
Alpha Devon noticed the awkward silence between the both of them and he cleared his throat.
“Spill it out, I know you want to say something” Devon broke the silence.
“Lydia have other intentions for coming here?” Kent asked curiously.
“Obviously”
“I’m hoping you’re not planning on doing something risky. Emma’s your Luna and I don’t think it’s advisable for you to cut ties with her when she’s carrying your heir” Kent said.
“What are you thinking? It’s nothing like that. Why would that do that to my Luna, that’s not acceptable in the law of Grey pack”
“Then what is it? You know Lydia doesn’t show up in places if she doesn’t have hidden agendas. I think the grey pack is her target now because you’re friends and she believes you will trust her, just don’t fall for her tricks” Kent forewarned.
“I don’t trust easily so don’t think underestimate me and of course I know she has hidden agendas, now I believe so many are after Emma’s position,” Devon said.
“What do you mean?” Kent asked curiously.
“It’s nothing like that so give her all the hospitality you can offer. I don’t want any complaints” Devon ordered then head to Emma’s chambers.
….
Emma lay on her bed after freshening up.
What was I expecting? I will forever be a slave in his eyes and a slave have no right to expect anything or yawn for anything. Emma said in her head with a frown.
The alpha came into her room and she turned to the other side of the bed.
“Your attitude earlier tells you don’t like Lydia. You haven’t even met her before, how can you act so rude to someone you haven’t seen or met before” Devon said and Emma ignored him as she pretended to be asleep.
Alpha Devon sighed frustratedly as he walked closer to her.
“I know you’re still awake so sit up and tell me exactly what you meant by your behaviour earlier,” Devon said seriously and Emma sat up.
“I don’t think, it’s necessary to answer that question so stop bugging me and leave,” Emma said holding in her anger.
“I will only if you come with me and apologize to Lydia for acting that way. She’s an Alpha so don’t underestimate her just because you saw her here” Devon said coldly.
“You can just as well slit my throat this moment and now, I did nothing wrong to her and if I can remember apologizing to someone is the last thing you would do so why are you forcing me to do the same? Yes, she’s an alpha but an alpha who isn’t recognized is close to nothing” Emma blurted.
“You can’t use your sharp tongue on others, you can do better than that. You’re the Luna so respectably present yourself. I get it that you’re upset because I wasn’t eagerly waiting for you outside but don’t forget I’m the alpha and acting that way is beneath my rank. You will go out for a day and you’re acting weird already”
“I’m not acting weird. I’ve always been this way so why are you pointing out faults? It’s not my fault you got a new fresher you can’t even touch” Emma sneered.
“What the hell are you talking about? Who’s a fresher? Now I see where all this is heading but don’t worry, I don’t wish to push through with it anymore. Arguing with you is just a waste of time” Devon said completely pissed and he left the room.
Emma rolled her eyes and fell back on her bed.
“Apologize for what? I haven’t even started yet. Since her visit I wasn’t notified then I will act the way I want. You can’t control me on this one. She looks like she’s here for some secret mission. What kind of alpha leaves her pack and comes crash in another place,” Emma mumbled.
Later that day…
Emma went out to the garden to enjoy the sunset view and just then Lydia joined her there.
“I heard you’re carrying the alpha’s heir?” Lydia asked and Emma looked at her with disgust.
“You’re just hearing it or you’re pretending not to have heard it,” Emma said sarcastically.
“Both” Lydia and Emma looked at her suspiciously.
“Oh really, you’re the first one I’m seeing who isn’t happy about the news,” Emma said.
“Don’t put words in my mouth okay? Of course, I’m happy for you since you won’t be satisfied as you did before. Giving us more room to enjoy ourselves and have some fun” Lydia said with a smile and Emma clenched her fist.
“You think the alpha will fall for your petty tricks. Alpha Devon is loyal and he has principles so I think you should give up on that idea” Emma scoffed.
“Don’t say what you don’t believe yourself. You’ve only known the alpha for some months but I’ve practically known him for so many years. If you doubt me then go ask around yourself, I don’t mean to trigger anything inside. I just dislike it when others look down on me. I was hoping things go well with us but I guessed wrong. Your first approach to me pissed me off and I’m not letting that slide” Lydia threatened then walked away.
