CHAPTER 29
A week later…
Alpha Devon and Emma were seated next to each other at the meeting room, waiting for Kent to join them.
“Sire, you sounded a bit urgent over the phone. Should I be expecting positive response on our conversation days back?” Kent asked anxiously.
“I guess it’s natural to see you this anxious. My bad, I took quite a while before giving you a feedback on our discussion. Well, Emma will be leaving with you to the mayor town today” Alpha Devon announced and Emma looked at him a bit shocked.
“What?” Emma gasped.
“Why do you sound so surprised? Emma we talked about this months back and we agreed on it” Devon reminded.
“You didn’t agree with Sophia’s suggestion when she said she would handle the safe home. What changed?” Emma asked.
“Emma, I also don’t want you to go there but you’re the best candidate for the work. We all believe you will be able to convince them on our project” Alpha Devon uttered and Emma looked at Kent.
“I also wish to push through with the project but I feel uncomfortable when someone try to get in my way and things don’t really go well with beta Kent and myself. We seem to have different perspective on things” Emma said with a blank expression.
“Then I see this trip is the best one to come by. I’m hoping you both grow some trust for each other when you get there so you don’t ruin things even more. You’re representing grey pack so it’s only wise to act smart and comparative since that’s the term for this trip” Alpha Devon instructed.
“Can’t we move the trip till tomorrow, I don’t think I’m prepared to go anywhere today” Emma complained.
Kent and Devon looked at her and Alpha Devon stood up.
“The maids have helped you prepare and I don’t think you will spending much time there because of your current condition” Devon said.
“My current condition is the reason why I should be emotionally ready to embark on a trip don’t you think so” Emma tried to convince.
I don’t have a good feeling about leaving the pack house today. My life might be endangered if I push through with it. Emma said in her head anxiously.
“Alright, You seem very persistent about not leaving today. You should leave tomorrow then” Alpha Devon said.
“You’re not saying the real reason why you don’t wish to leave today. You’ve got other hidden agendas” Kent blurted and Emma glared at him.
“Why not stick around and see for yourself, after all seeing is believing” Emma uttered.
“No need to create a fuss. You’re leaving tomorrow so find a way to set things straight between you two. Kent come with me” Devon ordered and they both left the meeting room.
Emma went out to the garden to sit for a bit.
Emma’s phone rang and she hesitated before taking the call.
“Princess, are you planning on turning your back on us as well. You promised to finish up the Alpha but why is he still breathing just fine” An elder yelled over the phone and Emma clenched her fist.
“What right do you have to rise your voice at me? I’m the Princess of shadow pack but I’m also the Luna of grey pack. My vengance against the Alpha is something I’ve got to decide on my own so don’t force me into doing anything and just so you know, I’ve become the legal Luna of grey pack because I’m carrying alpha Devon’s heir” Emma said seriously.
“Princess how could you allow something so outrageous to take place. Your parents will be shedding tears wherever they are right now. You chose to bear children with that monster of an Alpha”
“This is a decision made by me. He killed my parents and my parents killed his mother. If I push through in killing him as well then innocent blood won’t be spared in the future. I can’t let my children go through that path. Other than killing the alpha, we’ve got other ways to avenge my parents” Emma said and hung up.
“Phew!” Emma exhaled slowly.
They’re proved Devon’s words to be true. How can they use me as their bait? So cruel of them. I won’t do anything that would jeopardize my future here in Grey pack so any other plans of revenge I will let it pass. Emma said in her head.
NEXT DAY…
Emma and Kent are in the car headed to the mayor town.
“Why do you dislike me so much? Have we perhaps had a bad encounter in the past?” Emma asked without looking at him and Kent had a glance at her.
“Why would you ask such a foolish question?” Kent asked with a shrug.
Emma exhaled sharply as she felt insult in his words.
“I’m only being polite with my question but was it necessary for you to call it a foolish question? What’s foolish about the question?” Emma asked getting pissed.
“And that’s why we can never be on good terms because you talk much and such a drama queen. You get into so much trouble. I feel bad for the Alpha already for getting involved with you. Your life is filled with dramas” Kent blurted and Emma looked at him and rolled her eyes.
“I’m sorry for speaking up first. Forget about what I just said. You can concentrate on your driving now” Emma said coldly as she looked away.
“Don’t you think you’re feeling so highly of yourself. Why do you think I would lose my concentration just on your boring conversation” Kent scoffed and Emma clenched her fist and then hit the car door.
“Can you stop the car for a moment. I think the both of us needs some fresh air because you’re hilariously being too sensitive for my liking. For the second time I’m regretting accepting to go on this trip with you” Emma said seriously.
“Did you just call me sensitive? What the!” Kent said with a frown.
“You feel offended by just the word sensitive. How about I call you foolish for saying unreasonable things at the wrong time” Emma cursed and Kent stopped the car immediately as he glared at Emma.
But he heard some strange sounds in the bushes.
“Why are you quiet? Did I hit the spot or you’ve gone short of words?” Emma mocked and Kent placed a finger on his lips.
“Shhh! I think we’re been followed” Kent indicated and Emma’s eyes went wide open.
“Then why the hell did you stop driving? You should step on the brake immediately” Emma whispered and Kent nodded negatively as he looked out for anyone to show up.
“Kent!” Emma called out with a frown.
“Can you just keep quiet for a minute? It’s my duty to protect you and that’s exactly what I’m trying to do” Kent uttered.
“Is this how you protect someone or you’re indirectly trying to put me in harm’s way”
Kent glared at her then stepped on the brake.
They drive off but they were still been trailed.
They got to the mayor town and Kent got down from the car.
“Where are you going?” Emma asked curiously.
“I will be back in a minute” Kent said and walked away. Emma looked out at the window but Kent disappeared into thin air.
What the hell is going on? Why’s he acting so suspicious? Emma questioned in her head.
Minutes later, Kent came back to the car and wiped his hands with a napkin.
“Did something happen out there?” Emma asked.
“Alpha Grant sent out some werewolves to trail us but I’ve taken care of that. Let’s head to the mayor’s mansion” Kent said and drove off.
He took care of spies like it’s nothing. Now I see why Devon and Kent kept on winning battles. Quite brave. Emma said in her head obviously Impressed.
“But why would alpha Grant send his spies to us?” Emma asked and Kent shook his head.
“Here we go again with another foolish question. The Alpha gave him a taste of his medicine for holding you captive before and now, you’re asking me why he sent out spies. Are you being serious?” Kent scoffed.
“Just stop taunting me or don’t even bother talking to me. Do you expect me to know everything that goes on in grey pack or other packs. The alpha basically have me locked up at the pack house so don’t expect me to know everything, it’s annoying how you belittle me” Emma fired.
“Whatever you say, Milady” Kent shrugged and his words pissed Emma even more.
“Let’s just act to be cooperate when we get there. I don’t wish mend things with you” Emma said frustratedly.
Kent kept mute on her words and she looked at him.
“That’s more like it” Emma mumbled and Kent smirked.
Devon really needs someone like her. She’s capable of putting a smile on his lips, I think I guess this is how it all started. Kent said in his head.
Kent drove down to the mayor’s mansion.
They went in and they welcomed in a classy way.
“Greetings mayor” Kent greeted the mayor as they got into the grand sitting room.
“You’re being very persistent, I like that spirit” The mayor said with a half smile.
“Here’s …” Kent couldn’t complete his statement when the mayor cut in.
“Luna Emma, you don’t have to make a special introduction. The whole universe knows who Alpha Devon’s Luna is. Well that aside” The mayor said and sat up right as he stretched his hand out for an handshake.
“It’s an honour to have you here with us, Milady” The mayor said and Emma received the handshake with a smile.
“Same here sir. Your physically features tells a beautiful story, I must say I like what I see” Emma complimented and the mayor smiled widely.
She’s obviously flirting with him. Kent said in his head.
“You’re a beauty yourself. Alpha Devon is quite lucky to have a beauty at his side” The mayor said.
“Mayor, back to the reason for our visit” Kent cut in.
“Of course, I’ve got that at the back of my mind. Milady, how about you have some rest then we sign the contract tomorrow when you’ve gotten enough rest. You must be so tired from your trip” The mayor said with a smile.
“Thank you so much for your consideration. You’re so considerate that’s a very lovely personality” Emma said with s smile.
“Show them their room” The mayor ordered the maids standing at the side.
“Thank you mayor” Kent said and they stood up.
“Have a lovely evening sir” Emma said politely and the mayor smiled brightly.
The maids lead them to their guestrooms.
They both settled down in their own rooms.
Alpha Devon’s call came in through Kent’s phone.
“The mayor has fallen for the Luna. She flirted with him on seeing him. He fell for it and he agreed on signing the contract without even discussing deep on things that brought us” Kent said over the phone.
“I’m impressed, at least her charms got to him. We should be happy about that right. He was so reluctant on doing anything with werewolves for years now but now he changed his mind all thanks to my Luna. He would be giving you quite a peaceful hospitality” Devon said with a half smile.
“Aren’t you supposed to be jealous about that? You’re one weirdo” Kent shook his head.
“She flirted with him and it made him agree on signing the contract. That’s a positive thing to do and it would be childish of me to be jealous because of that. Although I wouldn’t spare him if he oversteps his boundaries” Devon said coldly.
“Now you’re acting like your real self” Kent smirked.

Emma was laying on the bed with her eyes on her phone as she patiently waiting for Devon’s call.
“Like what the hell!”
“We’ve practically haven’t spoken for the whole day and he doesn’t seem to cross his mind so he would give me a call. What a heartless jerk” Emma cursed with a frown and immediately her phone rang.
She took the call in a hurry.
“Don’t you think you’re being a bit harsh, I’m not jerk okay” Devon said calmly over the phone and Emma smiled.
