CHAPTER 28
“Since you know that then I guess you should think real hard about what you want and how you plan on dealing with everything in the future. I know you wish to end everything and I won’t stop you if that’s what you want” Alpha Devon uttered and Emma looked at him as guilt swallowed her.
“You don’t have to be so straightforward and if I plan on doing anything to you or avenge my parents, you have no idea to push me into doing it. If you’re done with what you’re saying, you should leave now. I need to get some rest” Emma said coldly and sniffed back her tears that were about to drop.
“I don’t feel like going back to my chambers tonight,” Devon said and Emma glared at him.
“I see, you still have more to say regarding our parents. Is there something else you would like to share with me?” Emma asked.
“And why do you think I’ve got something else to say? Do you wish for me to say something else?” Devon asked.
“Well, you don’t have to say more. I know you would have spilled it out if you had anything to say. And regarding my dad’s mission to get you killed and rule over you. I’m not in support of that and I don’t side with the wrong team but that doesn’t change the fact that you destroyed the life of an innocent she-wolf and I won’t forgive you for that” Emma said seriously.
“That’s all I need from you. I don’t deserve your forgiveness so don’t think of doing it because I wouldn’t forgive you if I was in your shoes” Devon said and got out of bed.
“You changed your mind about spending the night here?” Emma scoffed.
“I just realized I’ve got things to take care of so sleep well and your house arrest will be lifted tomorrow, I guess you’re worried about that but put your mind at ease, it’s safe to go out now,” Devon said and left the room.
Later that night…
Emma was fast asleep when someone sneaked into her chambers.
Alpha Devon was in his chambers going through some of the books he picked from Elder Crick’s house but suddenly he felt something strange from Emma’s room.
“What could be happening there? Emma isn’t known with such aura” Devon uttered
I think we’re having an intruder. Devon said in his head and quickly walked to Emma’s chambers.
Why is it so familiar with Sophia’s smell? Devon questioned in his head then opened the door slowly.
Emma was about to be injected with a poisonous herb when Alpha Devon opened the door.
The intruder’s eyes went wide open in shock on seeing Devon. She hurriedly tried to inject the poisonous herb but alpha Devon rushed to her and grab her neck tight.
“Who the hell are you? And what do you think you’re doing?” Alpha Devon asked with a thunderous tone which woke Emma up.
“I hate doing things secretly and you taught me to do things that way and that’s why I’m here myself to finish up what I should have ended a long time ago,” Sophia said angrily and Devon pulled out her mask.
Alpha Devon loosened his grip upon hearing Sophia’s voice and Sophia ran to Emma to finish up what she started.
“Sophia!” Alpha Devon called out angrily and he stabbed her with his claws from behind.
“This is the only way, you can be able to stop me because as long as I’m breathing I will never let you end up with anyone else. I’m the only one who deserves that position” Sophia said and blood gushed out of her mouth and Devon pulled out his claws.
“You had to go to such an extent just to tell me, you will never be on my side. You would have run so far away and never returned. You just made me realize that the 23 years of friendship were nothing but a complete waste of time” Alpha Devon said coldly.
“I fought for what I want and this is exactly what I want. If you truly saw me as a friend, you wouldn’t have ignored my feelings and brought someone else into your life. I achieved one thing though. Joining hands with your enemies was the best achievement I made and you would never know your true enemies” Sophia said slowly as she slowly lost her breath and Devon slit her throat in the process.
“I can’t let you be a threat to me for the second time,” Alpha Devon said coldly as he watched Sophia give up the ghost.
Emma woke up and her eyes widened in shock as she saw blood all over her bed and the monstrous look on alpha Devon’s face.
“What .. what ..” Emma stuttered in shock Alpha Devon walked to her and she stopped breathing for a second.
“You should go back to sleep. I guess I’m crowded in your whole mind and that’s why you even see me in your dreams” Devon uttered with a smile as he lay her back.
“Close your eyes because it’s all a dream” Alpha Devon said as his mind-controlled her.
Emma closed her eyes and dozed off immediately.
“You don’t seize to provoke me,” Devon said angrily as he glared at Sophia’s body.
He left the room.
“Get rid of her immediately and I want Luna’s room cleaned up perfectly” Alpha Devon ordered the guards and maids at the cleaning quarters.
“Yes, sire” They all chorused and Alpha Devon left for the pack’s secret dungeon.
He got there and found out all the guards have been killed.
She made quite a sacrifice just to get to Emma. Your death will be buried along with your existence. You can’t betray me and go scot-free. Alpha Devon said in his head coldly then left the dungeon.
NEXT MORNING…
Emma woke up and she looked around her suspiciously.
“Hey, did anything happen here last night?” Emma asked one of the maids who came into her room to get her bathing water ready.
“No, milady” She answered.
Emma got down from her bed as so many thoughts crowded her mind.
“I’m pretty sure, something happened here last night. The Alpha was here but what exactly happened? Why can’t I recall?” Emma mumbled.
Nothing changed in here. The sheets and room are all normal but why does it feel like I’m missing out on something very important? Emma questioned in her head and Alpha Devon came into her room.
“You’ve got quite some free time on your hands to mumble so much so early in the morning,” Devon said calmly as he walked to Emma.
“Were you here last night?” Emma asked curiously.
“Why? Did you hope I would come?” Devon asked flirtatiously.
“Just go straight ahead and answer my question” Emma yelled frustratedly.
“Of course, I was here last night but you chased me out after our conversation remember”
“Other than that time, did you come while I was asleep?” Emma asked.
“Take the Luna to the washroom. She needs to freshen up” Alpha Devon said to the maid standing at the door of the washroom.
“You haven’t answered me yet. Why are you avoiding my question?” Emma asked looking at him.
“Oh please, can you drop it already? Why would I visit you at night when you’re asleep? You’re overthinking things, I guess you saw me in your dreams and that’s why you keep asking weird questions. It’s too early for that so go freshen up. We’ve got lots of things to do” Alpha Devon ordered and Emma kept on looking at him as they head to the washroom.
So persistent. Sophia’s not important and that’s why you shouldn’t know of her. She’s not worth it. Alpha Devon said in his head and went out of the room on seeing Kent’s call.
“You’ve been calling?” Alpha Devon asked as he met with Kent at his study.
“You made her meet her demise. Don’t you think it’s time you share with me the reason you spared her?” Kent asked and Devon looked away.
“Because she knew something I was desperately in need to know and that’s why I kept her alive but I don’t need her anymore and she tried to bring harm to Emma and my heir. I can’t forgive her for that and that’s why she would be forgotten like she never existed. She came at me twice and I hate that with passion” Alpha Devon said with a frown.
“She couldn’t even protect the friendship we all had,” Kent said coldly.
“There will be more of that and I don’t mind bringing an end to whoever tries to get in my way”
“I won’t let that event repeat itself but she-wolves can’t seem to get a pass without falling for you and that’s how it all begins,” Kent said and Devon scoffed.
“Whoever does end up losing so much and I shouldn’t be the one to everyone what’s right or wrong. Sophia colluded with the shadow mask and that’s the most hateful thing a friend should do. She planned on killing me, I don’t think our friendship was meaningful” Devon said with a blank expression.
“She caught feelings and that ruined everything. She’s a friend but she planned to end you Emma’s an enemy’s daughter and she stayed under your nose without even pushing through with that. Friends far away and enemies closer, Sophia sets such an example” Kent said.
“Since one of the shadow mask members is down. We should proceed into destroying all of them. We should first start with those packs who have been on a low-key for quite some time now” Alpha Devon suggested.
“What about our plans to convince the mayor of the town? If we skip that now, It will be even harder to get to them next time” Kent reminded and Devon bites his lower lips thinking hard about what to do next.
“The longer they stay alive the closer it gets for them to overcome Emma’s inner strength and that’s what I’m trying to avoid. Emma’s life is more important than any other thing” Devon said.
“But we can’t ignore the plans of our pack, which we’ve had for years. If we abandon this now then it’ll be quite challenging for us to come by with an opportunity to meet with the mayor of town again” Kent said calmly.
“We can always protect Emma. She’s carrying your heir and that’s more reason why she’s under protection. She’s stronger in this state and you know that more than anyone”
“I guess I’m not ready to take any risk. I will be getting quite busy very soon and it will be harder to even protect her” Devon uttered worriedly.
“Let’s proceed with our plans to the Mayor’s town and after that, we should silent all the shadow mask members” Kent suggested.
“I have to go now but for now. I need to have a healthy pub talk with Emma according to the healer’s instructions. I know you handled the theft case of the safe home and that’s why I didn’t bother to ask” Alpha Devon said.
“I handled it pretty fast just like Luna suggested. Her idea worked perfectly well”
“Now I see why you’re so persistent about proceeding with our plans for the mayor of town. Let’s go ahead with your suggestions. I should shift my attention to my family” Alpha Devon said with a smile then left for Emma’s chambers.
“You’re just getting here? I’ve been waiting for you for ages” Emma nagged.
“You only got out of the shower a few minutes ago and why are you in such a hurry,” Devon said.
“I’m not in hurry, I just want to get done with everything so I concentrate on my duty of looking out for the safe home,” Emma said and Devon smiled looking away.
“Let’s go,” Devon said and they head to the Alpha’s chambers when he was little.
Emma looked around and a smile appeared on her lips.
“You had a very lively childhood. I wonder why you changed so much” Emma said looking around she missed her steps but Devon dragged her closer to him.
They locked eyes and their hearts both raced at the same rhythm.
