CHAPTER 21
Grey pack…
Alpha Devon smiled as he watched Emma’s face.
Thank you for staying strong. Alpha Devon uttered in his head with a sigh of relief.
Emma opened her eyes slowly and saw the alpha’s face right in front of her and she punched him hard on his stomach and then moved away quickly.
“How did I get here?” Emma asked curiously.
“I guess you weren’t confident about your escape plan” Devon uttered and Emma sat up.
Emma thought about it and looked at the alpha.
“You possibly didn’t risk your life just to get me out of there right?” Emma asked seriously.
“Why would I endanger my life just to get you out of there” alpha Devon scoffed and he was about to leave the room.
“I’m not going to thank you for saving my life. I had it under control you only interfered” Emma said looking away.
“Suit yourself. I didn’t do it to save you so cut the crap and get some rest because tomorrow will be a bit hectic for you” Alpha Devon said coldly and left the room.
Devon rolled his eyes as he left the room, he clenched his fist frustratedly as he felt bad about how he sounded.
She’s making it hard for me to care? She’s rude till the very end. Devon groaned in his head and then head out of the pack house.
Alpha Devon drove down to the house of one of his uncles.
“What brings you here?” Elder Crick questioned with a frown.
Devon looked around and exhaled slowly.
“You haven’t seen me for years but your tone doesn’t sound welcoming,” Alpha Devon said with a half smile as he sat down on a couch facing his uncle.
“That’s because you’re no longer welcome here. You became an alpha then threw the rest of your families away. Our existence means nothing to you”
“That’s because I hate it when I get threatened by the safety of my family. I take serious measures when it comes to the lives of everyone in my clan” Devon said.
Elder Crick looked up at Devon and shook his head.
“You look just like him” Elder Crick uttered almost in a whisper.
“Who? I don’t think I look like anyone, I look just like myself. I can’t find a duplicate of me in the whole world” Devon bragged and elder Crick laughed.
“Such a braggart” Elder Crick laughed.
“I’m glad you laughed,” Devon said with a half smile.
“What happened to the cold-hearted Alpha Devon? You could even kill your father if you had it in my mind and now you’re sitting next to me, trying to brighten things up” Elder Crick pointed out and Devon wore a blank expression.
“I could kill my father if he had anything to do with my mother’s death. That’s the penalty for murdering his very own Luna” Alpha Devon uttered in a deep voice.
“You almost succeeded in doing that but I’m glad you didn’t. Alpha Tyler got nothing to do with all of that. Devon, you’ve got trust issues and you can’t blame anyone for being scared of you” Elder Crick said and Devon looked away.
“I don’t need them to be comfortable around me. I don’t wish to build a weak clan”
“Before you lose your cool, I will go straight to the point” Elder Crick cut in and Devon looked at him.
“I visited to say something to you as well uncle,” Devon said.
“I was planning on dropping you a message as well but luckily you came first. Why did you push through with your wedding with princess Emma? Years back, I protested the idea of alpha Tyler using your marriage with her as an alliance” Elder Crick uttered seriously.
“I get why you’re so against the idea of my marriage with her but it’s all in the past now. If I wish to create a safe and sturdy nation then I need Emma right by my side just like the prophecy said” Devon said slowly.
“That sounds so like what your father will say and this is the exact reason why my sister got killed under his nose. Devon that’s the statement of a weak Alpha and this is exactly why you don’t any supporters at the grand hall. Everyone thinks you will someday be just like your father. Brave at first and weak at the end” Elder Crick said seriously.
“I’m nothing like my father. I will never let any harm come to my Luna not when I’m still breathing. I concurred so many packs immediately after my coronation as the alpha and why’s that because I wanted whoever hears my name to tremble in fear. I wanted to rebuild the reputation of Grey pack my father tarnished with his soft heart so uncle how can you compare me to him?” Devon asked seriously.
“If that’s what you think then I won’t push it but using the prophecy as an excuse to get Emma by your side isn’t worth it. She will someday rip out your heart, she’s no different from her father. When her true powers get awakened, not even you can stop her from avenging her clan” Elder Crick forewarned.
“I can’t let that happen till I avenge my mother’s death” Alpha Devon uttered coldly.
“What do you mean? I thought you avenged her death already” elder Crick uttered a bit confused.
“Mother’s death was way too mysterious I can’t let the accomplices go scot free I’m not that forgiving,” Devon said seriously.
“Devon, you can’t find peace if you keep on dwelling on the past. Alpha Falcon paid the price of joining forces with others so I advise you to let go of the past and concentrate on the future of the grey pack. If you had planned on doing more then you wouldn’t have brought Emma to your side, she stands as a big threat to you” Elder Crick said worriedly.
“You worry too much uncle. I know I’m the only nephew you have but you’re also forgetting the fact that I’m the Alpha and the responsibility of our entire clan lies on my shoulders. I’m not going to give in to defeat so easily. I need to get to the bottom of my hatred to create a better home for us all” Devon said with a blank expression.
Elder Crick exhaled slowly as he gave up on convincing Devon.
“You’re just like your mother so stubborn. I can’t help you if you keep on being headstrong but why did you visit? What’s bothering you so much for you to come all the way here to see a long-lost uncle?” Elder Crick asked with a smile.
Alpha Devon hesitated before he spoke.
“Emma hates me so much right now and just as you said, she might rebel someday, I can’t let that happen she might get killed if that happens,” Devon said slowly.
“But you love it when people hate you and I’m pretty sure, you chose her because she dislikes you and how can you still care so much for her when you know she will rebel someday” Elder Crick said and Devon looked at him in shock.
“I have no idea why I care so much for her either, it’s beyond my control, and Uncle, how come you know me so well?” Devon asked with a smile.
Elder Crick laughed.
“Because that’s exactly how your mother is. You’re not much different from her, she fell in love with alpha Tyler because he hated her for her bravery and challenging personality” Elder Crick uttered with a smile.
“You must miss her a lot. She was the only family you had after all” Devon uttered sadly.
Elder Crick smiled sadly.
“How ridiculous of things to turn out this way? You fell for the daughter of your mother’s murderer. So much bravery just to get what you want, I’m proud of you Devon. You got so many features of my sister which keep reminding me of her”
“It’s nothing to be proud of uncle. I guess Alpha Falcon will be smiling wherever he is right now because I made his dying wish come true but I can’t let things end his way either. I hate it when things get boring so let’s see how things end” Devon smirked.
“Don’t do anything just let things sort themselves out, she’s hiding under your wings right now so there’s got to be some hidden feelings there. Don’t push it too hard and don’t dwell so much on the prophecy. They are many cases where prophecies fail to come through” Elder Crick advised.
“I will keep that in mind uncle. I need to leave now, I’ve got other things to attend to” Devon said and stood up.
“Things are a bit hectic now so please don’t invade anymore pack, I can’t lose you just like I lost my sister. You have to keep a hold on your investigation” Elder Crick uttered and Devon looked at him intensively.
“Uncle, you didn’t read out the prophecy fifteen years ago right?” Devon asked curiously and Elder Crick smirked.
“Cut the crap, I’m not a seer okay so don’t get your hopes up. I’m not a seer, I’ve repeated myself. This is the tenth time you’re asking me this question in so many years and why do you think I’m the seer?” Elder Crick asked.
“On the night mother got killed, you suddenly came back to the grey pack after you visited the shred pack. How Mysterious! On the day father died, you said I shouldn’t leave for the backwoods for training. You said I should stay next to father. I might have a lot on my mind but I know a seer when I see one” Devon said and Elder Crick shook his head negatively.
“I happened to have higher senses in that sense but that doesn’t make me a seer. And what kind of seer makes a prophecy and goes into hiding” Elder Crick exclaimed.
Alpha Devon nodded.
“You don’t have to keep living in regret. It’s all in the past now and mother’s death got nothing to do with you. You wouldn’t have helped it if you were home that day so stop living in so much regret. You should get yourself a she-wolf as well, living this way will be way too exhausting and boring” Devon said coldly looking around.
“That suggestion isn’t really for me. I show zero interest in that except so leave already and again, make sure you spend the night with Emma tonight. You shouldn’t miss it okay” Elder Crick advised then went to his inner chambers.
He listened clearly for Alpha Devon’s footsteps as he left. Devon went out and Elder Crick exhaled deeply.
“Devon, you have to be safe. I can’t let history repeat itself” Elder Crick uttered slowly.
Alpha Devon got into his car and looked at Elder Crick’s building one more time.
Thank you for all your precautions, that’s all I wanted to hear. Alpha Devon said in his head and drove off.
He got to the pack house and Kent was waiting for him at the entrance already.
“Sire, I got some clues on the accomplices” Kent reported.
“Well, I think you should put a hold on your investigation for the time being” Alpha Devon instructed.
“That’s so sudden. Did something happen?” Kent asked curiously.
“Elder Crick advised I lie low for the time being. Seems like I’ve got other Alphas on their toes and that’s not how I deal with enemies. Let’s cut them some slack so save your clues for a better time. But I’ve got something else for you to look into” Alpha Devon said coldly and he looked at Kent.
“Look into Elder Crick. I think he’s the long lost seer of the prophecy fifteen years ago who went into hiding after his prophecy” Alpha Devon Devon uttered with a blank expression.
“You’re suspecting he has something to do with the prophecy but he has been in the grey pack all this while and why do we need to confirm that?” Kent asked curiously.
“No one must find out before us, else his life might be in danger” Alpha Devon uttered then headed to Emma’s chambers.
