When James pushed open a room of the Imperial Club, he was attacked by the pungent smell of alcohol.
“Well, you’re finally here. Aren’t you supposed to be with your wife?” Rory’s teased.
James pretended he didn’t hear it. He made a beeline to Silence, sat down, and pushed the drink in front of him away.
“Tell me. What’s your problem?”
“What’s my problem? My grandparents are urging me to get married. There is nothing wrong with it.” Silence gave a self-mocking sneer.
When he was reaching for another glass of drink, James frowned and stopped him.
“Since there’s nothing wrong, why are you looking for your cousin?”
“Good question. Why am I looking for her?”
What should he do if he let her go?
Only when she was by his side did he feel like he was alive. Ever since she went abroad, he felt like he was living in hell.
His world was dark.
Every time he closed his eyes, he could only see her face.
He saw she cried. He saw she laughed. The young lady always followed behind him like a shadow. He could never get rid of her no matter how hard he tried.
He was too confident. He thought he would lose her. But she just turned around and left, and he could never reach her anymore.
“Silence, I mean, you’re such an idiot in a romantic relationship. When she still liked you, you ignored her. Now that she’s gone, you can’t stop thinking about her. Well, you’re just torturing yourself!” Rory held the glass and shook his head.
Silence cast him a cold look, remaining silent.
Rory was a little afraid that his good friend was going to lose his temper. Silence worked out all year round and was definitely more ruthless than James when he made a move.
“How about this? I have an idea.” James said.
“Speak up.”
Since James was a married man, Silence was convinced that the man was well-experienced. He was hopeful now.
“You marry your fiancée. And then you’ll stop thinking about Arya. In the end, you’ll be in fine.”
“Get lost!”
“If you don’t want to forget her, go get her back. Marry her!”
That was how James dealt with his problem. He was decisive and ruthless. He never hesitated to get whatever and whoever he wanted.
Silence glanced at him but didn’t speak. Then he gulped down a mouthful of drink.
He knew he had too many concerns, so he was seldom frank with his feelings. Sometimes, he just needed a push.
The outsider saw most of the game. But James didn’t think he had the right to make any comment.
At the thought that he was going home to have his little wife in his arms, James didn’t drink because he didn’t want to smell alcohol.
“Relationship is different from fighting a war. You should think more about it,” he said finally.
…
After he reached the villa, James went to his room to take a shower before returning to the little woman’s room.
As soon as he opened the door, a pink figure fell into his arms. He spread his arms to catch her and lowered his head to kiss her forehead.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m not happy.”
Like a lazy kitten, Kara rubbed herself against him.
Hearing her hoarse voice, James lifted her chin. Then he saw her red eyes. It was clear that she had cried.
“Why did you cry?”
He picked her up, brought her to eye level, and he kissed her eyes gently.
“Arya was crying. Then I felt so bad as well.”
At the mention of Arya, James was reminded of the look on Silence’s face. Defeated as he was, he carried Kara to the sofa and sat down, ready to talk to her.
“Why was she crying?”
“Because she heard that Silence was getting married.”
Kara pursed her lips and rubbed her cheek against his like an animal seeking comfort.
James caressed the top of her head and held her hand.
“Arya said she doesn’t deserve to be with him, so she could only wish him well. That’s bullshit. She’s lying to herself.” The more Kara thought about it, the angrier she became.
“I see. But so what?”
James kissed her palm. Smelling the familiar scent from her, James curled his lips into a smile.
The little woman tittered all day long, but now her little face was wrinkled in anger. She was so adorable.
“James, can I attend Silence’s wedding? Arya’s still abroad, so she can’t come back. But I’m going to make a scene in the wedding and kidnap the groom.”
James’s mouth twitched. “Silly girl, why do you want to kidnap the groom?”
“I…” Kara found it so unfair for Arya. She did not want Silence to get married. As for why she wanted to kidnap him, she had no idea.
“If I kidnap him, I will lock him up, okay?”
Words failed James.
So that was the worst torture Kara was able to come up with.
“What should I do, James? Arya is my best friend. I can’t stand by and do nothing while she’s suffering.”
“Kara, about this, we’d better lay off. Silence will know what he should do after he figured it out.”
While saying that, James caressed her face and bent down to kiss her.
“James, will we break up?” Kara suddenly sighed.
James fell silent.
The corner of James’s mouth twitched as he fixed his deep brown eyes on her.
He had never thought about such a question, nor would he answer such a question.
“You want to break up with me?”
“No. This is just an assumption. We never know what could happen. Will we be together forever?”
James picked her up and walked to the bed.
“Silly girl, it seems that we need a thorough, special communication.”
Kara blinked her big, confused eyes and put her arms around his neck. “What?”
“A communication happened in the bed, of course!”
James placed her on the bed and propped his hands on both sides of her.
“James, this is not my safe period,” Kara exclaimed, trying to jump and escape.
James caught her legs, grabbed her wrists with one hand, and pressed them on top of her head. Then he took the condoms from the drawer.
“Be good.”
Kara shook her head. Not wanting to get pregnant, she buried herself into his arms.
Her body was very soft. She curled into a ball. But the more she rubbed herself against him, the more James’s body tensed up. He swallowed a mouthful.
What a little fool! If she listened to him, he could take his time. But since she was in such a hurry, James decided not to hold himself back.
The two rolled back and forth, but Kara failed to run away in the end.
James moved too fast. In the blink of an eye, she was already naked and was stuffed into the quilt.
He whispered in her ear that he would not let her pregnant. Only then did she give in.
Although James had sex with her three or four times a week, he looked like he was hungry for her every time. He was insatiable, and she always ended up in his arms in exhaustion.
No matter how many times she begged and cried, he just wouldn’t let her go. She was even a little scared of that.
On the third day, Kara woke up at noon.
On the fourth day, after she washed up and went downstairs, Libby brought her porridge and asked her to bring lunch for James.
“No. I want to go to my studio.” Kara rejected the request in annoyance.
When James left, he asked Libby to remind Kara to bring him lunch when she woke up.
Kara was so sore because of the man. She didn’t want to see him now.
“Mrs. Hemming, this is Mr. James’s task for me. If I don’t do it well, Mr. James might fire me. If I am fired, I will have no job. If I have no job, I will be homeless. I’ll be so miserable!”
That was an exaggeration.
Kara didn’t know what to say.
Her mouth twitched. She could only get changed upstairs, take their lunch, and go to work.
Nolan came to pick her up when she reached the office.
“Where is James?”
“Mr. James is in a meeting. I sneaked out. You should have a rest in his office.” Nolan brought the dessert he had prepared to her.
Kara was satisfied at the sight of the cake that she liked. She asked him to leave her alone.
The young lady was in a good mood only because of some cheap dessert. Nolan couldn’t help but comment inwardly that the young lady was so easy to please.
Knowing that she would have lunch later, Kara didn’t eat too much dessert.
But at the thought that James would be thirsty after such a long meeting, she got up and went to the pantry to make him tea.
With the tea in her hand, she was about to turn around when she was hit suddenly. The hot tea spilled on the back of her hand.
She jumped up in shock. The teacup tilted and the hot liquid poured on the other person.
