Amelia POV.
It took all the strength in me to squint an eye open. “Ugh!” I groaned, feeling a terrible pain in my legs.
What was this pain?
And my neck, it hurts!
“Oh my goodness!”
“Are you awake?” A not too old-looking woman peered into my face and asked, beaming.
Who was she?
Where was I?
What was she doing here?
I closed my eyes and opened them again with full force and this time, everything got clearer. I realized I was in the hospital, lying in my back on a bed.
“What am I doing here?” I managed to ask the woman, but my voice came out really cracked. I cleared my throat and tried sitting up on the bed, and the woman rushed to me and helped me sit up.
“It was an accident dear, you ran into my car or rather my car knocked you down. You became unconscious immediately and that was why I had to bring you here,” She explained, and that was when everything replayed in my head.
“I’m so sorry, ma’am,” I said with a sigh.
“No my dear, none of this was your fault, I’m happy it’s not serious as the doctor had said” She shot me a loving smile and I gulped at how pretty she looked, even at how old she was.
“Can I head home now?” I asked her, not knowing since when have been here.
“Only the doctor can decide that, but aren’t you feeling pain anywhere?” She asked, shifting closer to me on the bed.
“Not really ma’am, but my legs are aching badly” I replied, and she got on her feet quickly.
“I’ll go get the doctor” She said and raced out of the ward, I assumed it was a private ward, cause only I was in there.
I breathed out heavily before resting my head on the headboard.
My eyes landed on the wall clock and my eyes protruded at once while my heart began to beat faster.
It was 7:30pm!
Oh, no… I left the house around 4:00pm or something.
Gosh!
So, it’s been three hours, I left home?
Mom would be so worried sick by now… The door suddenly opened, and I darted my eyes towards it. The young looking old woman walked in, and a male doctor follow behind.
“I told you she would be alright, didn’t I?” The doctor says with a smile and the woman nodded, happily.
“I’m so glad, doc”
“How are you feeling now?” The doctor asked me.
“Are you feeling pain somewhere?”
“Yes, my legs” I answered while pointing at it.
“It’s fine, I’ll prescribe some medicines for you now, you can get them at any pharmacy…”
“Don’t you have them here?” The woman butts in.
“Of course we do, granny,” The doctor replied with a light chuckle.
“Then don’t be silly, we’ll definitely purchase them here,” The woman said with a frown.
It was pretty obvious these two are close, probably the doctor is their family doctor… I thought.
“Can I go back home now?” I asked the doctor.
“Sure, but ensure you take the medicines I will be writing for you in order to recover speedily,” the doctor advised, and I just nodded.
“But do you think you can go home now, you can just give me your parent’s contact, so I can call them” The woman suggested, but I shook my head negatively.
That might just worsen the matter.
“It’s fine ma’am, I will just go home”
“Thanks for everything ma’am, I really appreciate” I told her, tears welling up in my eyes.
“No my dear, I should be the one saying sorry to you, it’s my fault you’re sitting here right now” She moved close to me and wiped the tears I didn’t know was rolling down my cheeks. She was a good woman.
“I’m the one that knocked you down with the car” A young man said sadly, immediately we got to the hospital garage. He was the driver, no doubt.
He and a woman dressed in a maid attire rushed to granny and I as soon as they saw us. I was leaping though, but I held on to granny arm who had the drugs we just bought at the pharmacy of the hospital in the other hand.
While buying the drugs, she had insisted I refer to her as granny, and which I reluctantly agreed.
“It’s okay sir, it’s not your fault” I told the man with a light smile.
“We are so sorry, and I hope you’re feeling good now?” the maid asked, and I just nodded.
“Thank you”
“Alright, we are going to drop her first” Granny said and they both nodded before opening the car door.
Obviously, granny was a wealthy woman, but she is still down to earth- she was so humble.
People like her are very rare to find these days.
Granny POV
“You can stop the car here, sir” the girl said, and the driver screeched to a halt immediately. We all looked to saw a storey building before us.
“Is this your house?” I asked, looking at her. She was sitting next to me at the back seat while the head of maids sat at the passenger seat.
“Yes, ma’am”
“Alright then, I’m coming with you” I said, and made to open the door,, but her voice stopped me.
“No ma’am, you’ve really done enough for me and I appreciate you… But you don’t have to come with me, I’ll be fine,” She said, trying to hide her fears.
“But I need to speak with your parents”
“I’ll do that, ma’am” She said with a reassuring smile and I sighed softly.
“If you insist then, but please take good care of yourself and make sure you take your medications, okay?”
She nodded curtly.
“I will, granny”
I smiled at how lovely she looks when she smiles.
“Goodnight dear”
She had wanted to open the door when I spoke up.
“You haven’t told me your name yet,” My eyes widened, not believing I almost forgot to ask.
“My name is Amelia” She turned to me and answered with a bow.
A wide smile spread on my lips.
Her name was also beautiful as her.
I wished to meet the woman who gave birth to a wonderful girl like her, but with the way, she had sounded earlier, she doesn’t want me to, and I wouldn’t like to push her. But one thing was sure, I’ll definitely come looking for this girl some day soon.
“Alright Amelia, take good care of yourself” I told her, and she nodded with an innocent smile before opening the door.
“Goodnight, Amelia,” The head of maids and the driver chorused.
“Bye” She said with a wave after she got down from the car.
We also waved at her before the driver drove off.
“I like her, granny” the head of maids grinned from the front seat and I only smiled.
She was lovely.
Alexander POV
“Are you trying to tell me my granny has left this house since noon?” In a high pitch voice, I asked the two maids who were standing in front of me.
“Yes, sir,” One of them replied with their heads down.
I just returned home from office but to my surprise, granny was not home, and she was not picking her calls either. The maids had said she had gone to the grocery store with the head of maids to get some stuffs. But it was not making any sense, what on earth could she be buying since noon? Even if at all she was going to purchase the whole grocery store, it can’t definitely take up to this time…
For shopping’s sake!
This is 8;45pm.
I buried my fingers in my hair, paving the living room frantically.
Where could she be?
Where are you, granny?
I stopped paving and rushed out of the house. I couldn’t just stand doing nothing. I was glad I still have the car immobilizer in my trouser pocket.
“Open the gate!” I yelled at the gatekeeper from the garage.
I got inside the car, I turned on the ignition when I heard a car honked. Not only that, but I quickly came down and saw it was one of the missing car in the garage.
The driver spotted me and quickly halted. I rushed to the car and, thank goodness, granny was inside. I opened the door for her to come down.
“Oh my goodness, granny” I hugged her tight immediately she got down, as tears rushed to my eyes.
“I was so worried sick… Where were you?”
“Where have you kept your phone?” I rushed my words, breathlessly.
She smiled before removing the strand of hair stuck on my forehead.
“I’m so sorry Alexander, it’s a long story”
“And my cellphone, I think I left it in my room” She said and quickly looked away from my face.
Yeah!
She knew I was going to scold her.
She would never change!
“Now let’s go in, how was work today?” She took my arm as we headed to the building.
“Work was smooth, what’s the long story, granny?”
She glanced at me and smiled again, and I sure reciprocated it. I was so happy to see her smile at me this night, regardless what has happened between us this morning.
It was good to have my granny back!
