Amelia POV
The gatekeeper opened the gate after I knocked briefly on it. “Amelia?” He called as soon as he opened the gate widely.
“Where have you been?”
“Everyone has been worried sick, what happened to you?” Mr. Samuel, the gatekeeper, asked worriedly.
I released a rueful breath before I limped into the compound.
“What happened to your leg?” He asked, alarmed, and made to crouch.
“No, no, no. I’m okay sir, it’s just a minor injury” I told him, and he stood properly to watch my face.
He was a good man.
“Okay, just go in, we’ll talk tomorrow”
I nodded and began to limp into the house.
Callie was the first that spotted me immediately I walked into the living room, she was not sitting but standing instead, looking so worried. Others were settled down, watching a TV show.
“Oh my goodness, Amelia” She rushed to me and everyone turned towards me one after the other.
“What happened to you?”
“Where have you been?”
“Why is your leg bandaged?” She questioned breathlessly, checking every part of my body.
“I’ve been searching everywhere for you”
“I just returned home a while ago”
I shot her a loving smile- so caring.
“And where the hell are you coming from?” Mom roared, while standing on her feet.
I swallowed very hard. “I… Was… Coming from…”
“Answer me!” She barked and I cowered.
“Calm down, honey,” Dad says.
“Where are you coming from, Amelia?”
“And where are the stuffs I sent you?” She queried as she left where she was standing.
“Mom!” Callie shouts.
“Can’t you see her leg is bandaged?”
“Do I care?” She retorted, and tears stung my eyes immediately.
” I know she purposely didn’t want to come home just because I asked Clare to return the slap,” She said.
“What slap?” Dad asks.
“She slapped Clare earlier today only because Clare told her to wash her clothes neatly and immediately Clare told me, I asked her to return the slap” She turned to dad and talk.
“Mom, you asked Clare to slap Amelia back?” Callie asked, dimly.
“Yes, so what?” Clare butts in this time.
“Didn’t you hear what she did?”
“I heard correctly, but I strongly don’t believe it,” Callie said.
“Mom, did you hear that?”
“She doesn’t believe me but believes Amelia”
“You slapped Amelia first Clare, so cut the pretence!” Callie shouted.
“Keep quiet Callie, you were not even at home, were you?” Mom asked.
I just sobbed softly as I listened to them, my leg is terribly hurting, but I can’t just walk out on them, it would only stir the whole thing.
“Let’s go, Amelia” Callie took my hand and wanted to walk away.
“Stop right there Callie, she hasn’t told us where she was coming from,” Dad spoke up in a thick voice.
“She will…” Callie was saying.
“I had an accident,” I uttered in a croaked voice.
Callie gasped while others gave me the and-so_what look?
“I ran into a car and was taken to the hospital by the car owner,” I narrated and brought my head down.
“Good for you,” Clare said dryly before sitting down.
“Clare!” Callie yells.
“What?” They both gawked at each other.
“Just go away” Mom said with a disgusting look and also sat down.
Callie turned to me and took my hand again.
“Let’s go, Amelia”
She collected the drugs from me and helped me up the stairs.
I should have just died.
Kiara POV
Nicholas stopped the car after some minutes drive. The drive was silent all through, although, Nicholas really tried bringing up conversations,, but I wasn’t in the mood to talk. I breathe out softly.
He got down from the car and quickly turned around to open my side door.
“Thank you,” I told him warmly.
He shut the car door and gently took my hand. I glanced down at our entwined fingers and slowly took my eyes to his face, he was also staring at me, intensely.
“You’re so beautiful, Kiara,” He murmured. I stared at his eyes, trying to comprehend the look he was giving me, but I couldn’t.
I unlocked from the gaze and cleared my throat.
I took my eyes to the building.
“Queen’s meal” I read out.
“Yeah, it’s absolutely one of the best restaurants in the city”
“You like it?” He asked, and I just gave a perfunctory nod.
“I suppose you would, let’s go” He smiled at me and we both began to walk into the restaurant.
“You’re welcome” A security guard at the entrance greeted immediately we approach.
We both settled down, I was sitting across him. I averted my eyes around, there were other few people in the restaurant as well.
“What would you like to eat?” Nicholas asked.
I picked the menu on our table and started to look through it.
“Uhm mm… Macrons with baked chicken would do,” I answered while dropping the menu on the table.
He nodded and beckoned to a waiter, a waitress quickly scuttled to our table and bow in greetings.
“We would like to have macrons with baked chicken, and together with a wine,” Nicholas ordered.
“Right away, sir” The waiter said before turning away.
Nicholas turned to look at me and smile.
*****
I picked my glass of water and drank from it.
“How was the meal?” Nicholas asked, while he wiped his mouth with a napkin.
“I must confess their meal tastes great,” I told him with a light smile.
A waiter came to clear the table, leaving only the bottle of wine and our glass cups.
I brought my phone out of my purse and began to operate it, and I could feel Nicholas eyes boring a hole into my body, but I didn’t look up.
“Kiara” He called softly. I let out a small sigh before looking up at his face.
“I love you” He suddenly said, but it definitely has no effect on me, whichever.
“I need you in my life, Kiara”
“Just give me a chance, I promise you won’t regret it” He said, his blue eyes not leaving mine.
I just stared on, completely speechless.
I don’t love him, I don’t.
But I think I need a distraction, I need to set my mind straight. It’s time I stop thinking about Alexander, so maybe I should just give him a chance. Nicholas is a good guy, he would be a great boyfriend.
However, mom had begged me to return home with a boyfriend, I’m sure she would be happy.
I gulped slowly.
“Alright, I’ll give you a try,” I told him, while nodding my head.
“Really?” A wide smile crept up on his face as he sprang to his feet.
“Yeah” I smile before nodding my head.
Without letting go of my hand, he walked out of the table and made me rose to my feet.
He tucked some loose strands of my hair behind my ear, staring deeply into my eyes.
“Thank you” He cooed before embracing me.
I rested my head on his chest.
I just hope he’s not a bad decision.
