“Dead? And they were blood eagled? Why?” Ava’s eyes lit up in fear. She moved back from Lily and curled up on her bed. She knew Lily was not the one who killed them, but the idea of women being killed because of love, terrifies her. She wondered if this was how it all began. A poor miserable woman that Lily or her mother found interesting, and who was a sex slave. A more unfortunate event was that she was in love with the Alpha.
Ava is convinced Lily must have talked to those women. She would have encouraged them to trust her and go for her brother. She would have said they were special. And could get the attention of her brother. Ava feared Lily was trying to go such a way with her. So she and her brother could get rid of her.
Ava did not know she was making her fears obvious. Her eyes were wide open and her brows raised.
“I am sorry if I scare you but I just thought you deserve to know the truth,” Lily said, trying to assure Ava that she met no harm.
“That’s not true! That’s something worse,” Ava snapped.
“Yet, you deserve to know. So you won’t thread the same way they did. I don’t want you to end up like they did. My mother did not show interest in any of them. Neither did I. Us showing interest means you have our blessings.”
“I see. But what am I to do when he decides to tear me up and have my liver hung up against my back,” Ava asked out of fear.
“It won’t get to that. I promise it won’t. I just need you to trust me,” Lily assured her.
Ava convinced herself not to bank on such assurance. She doesn’t even know how to begin helping or trying to convince her mate. She loves him because they are mates not because he has done anything for her. And they are mates because the moon goddess had chosen them, not like both of them had interest in each other.
Even she had not known they were mates. It was after her father went to meet a priest in their pack that she discovered. And her father called up Alpha Jax to tell him. She did not know what Alpha Jax did to confirm but he accepted her. And she does not know why her father collected one hundred and fifty thousand dollars from Alpha Jax. But whatever it was worth, she would not risk her life beyond saving for a man who is lost in his anger and hatred for a dead woman.
“Listen Ava, I don’t know what you are scared of right now. If it’s my brother, that’s right. You need to be scared of him. And if it’s me betraying you, you should not worry. We want him to have a mate soon. And if it’s you, I don’t mind. As long as it produces an heir, someone who would keep our clan going.”
Ava nodded. She didn’t promise anything. But she knew she would do her best to get her mate. She did not want to seem excited when Lily promised to accept her as Jax’s mate.
Lily left Ava’s room. She felt guilty for whatever emotion she had created in her, which is mostly fear. Lily respects Ava’s decision to help her brother. She knew she could not do it alone but there had been no one she could talk to. When Ava first came in and Lily noticed her brother’s obsession with her, she felt good. She thought he loved her, but later on, she was proved wrong. Lily thought Ava was just another one of them who would keep on ruining her brother, just to brag about it by saying “we fucked the Alpha”.
But now with her mother’s comment, she trusted Ava. She hopes Ava won’t end up like Stephanie. Stephanie was the last sex slave Alpha Jax killed. She had shown potential in helping her brother. Her brother still hated women but his hatred had been reducing overtime. And from behind, she watched Stephanie try to help her brother.
Her only flaw was she was ambitious. She had plans of her own. She began bringing her family in. So they could claim to be associated with the Alpha. This was the only flaw Lily saw. But Lily does not know what Stephanie did to her brother. He woke up one day and he decided she was no longer needed and killed her. After a while, her family stood up in rebellion, but they were killed the same way. And since then, no one has volunteered to be so close with the Alpha.
Lily regretted that such a fate had to fall on those women, but then they did not have her support. They were not noticed by her mother either. When they tried getting the attention of her brother, her brother had not been cornered by his mother to go and get a mate. But if Ava was to put in her best, Lily promised she would cover her and protect her when necessary.
The thought of Ava failing made Lily’s brain send a shivering sensation to her brain. It would be horrible. Not only would Ava be dead, but she would have to get married. And Marriage is the last thing on her mind now. With how her brother has been treating women, she is not ready to know how other men treat women. It is dreadful. The thought of her being someone’s slave. It’s appalling. And she tries not to think about it. Another problem Lily is facing is, she is yet to meet someone to call her mate. No one has ever made her wolf purr. No one has ever made her wet when she sees them. And even though she is scared of marriage, she still wants to know how it feels to love and be loved.
