Allen received the resignation letter in his email, he chortled and rubbed his eyes, he was confused, she even attached to the email that the whoever he hires as his personal assistant can have her things.
Allen relaxed back on his chair, on a Monday morning, the first thing he got when he opened his laptop was the resignation.
“Great! Just great.” He yelled, there’s only reason behind this whole thing and there’s no doubt his mother has a hand in it, she had gone too far, he didn’t care to know what she did but he was damn sure that he needs to put her in place.
Driving to his mother house wasn’t on his agenda on a Monday morning, he knew that Anna wouldn’t leave on her own, asides that they weren’t in talking terms and he wasn’t in the best places with her, it shouldn’t be enough reason for her to quit her job.
“No, it shouldn’t be the reason why she’d quit.” He hit his hand on the steering wheel hard.
Slamming the door shut behind him, “Mrs. McArthur.” He yelled.
“Hello son, you didn’t say you..” he cuts in.
“How could you, how could you stoop so low, i thought you cared about your deputy and you’re a woman of honor, why did you do that?”
“For my son, I’d do anything.”
“That’s not doing something, that’s you hurting me, do you care more about your own happiness or mine?” Allen yelled.
“You’re yelling Allen,”
“Then move back.”
“Im your mother Allen, i birthed you and you will do whatever I say.”
“I’m your son, and I’m a man, not your puppet, give me the fucking respect I deserve, Mrs. McArthur.”
Sally could hear the brawling between her mother and brother as she descended down the stairs.
“What’s going on?”
“Your mother, I don’t know what she did, but Anna quit this morning, she sent her resignation letter.”
“Mom, how could you?”
“I did what I had to do for my son?”
“For your son or for your yourself? Why are you being so selfish.” Sally facepalmed.
“If you hire her back, I swear on your father’s name my husband, I will do more worse.”
“I dare you mother.” Allen said.
“I can’t believe you will do such,” Sally said, shaking her head, “mom you’ve taken this too far, it’s not even your business to be concerned about people’s affair especially when it comes to choosing who they want to be with.” Sally added, pacing back and forth.
“I’m done being your son.” Allen said, sternly.
“What you gonna do, Allen?” Sally asked, rubbing his shoulder.
“I’ll sort it out.”
“If you need my help, I’m here.” She smiled at him.
“Let’s go back to my office and talk, I think I really need your help big time.” Allen said, heading out with his sister.
“Allen?” His mother called, eyeing him, “I just wanted what’s best for you.” She sighed, she wanted to apologize but she couldn’t bring herself to do it, so she walked away.
Back at his office, Sally spin around in his chair, acting like a happy child, Allen laughed and told her to get serious.
“You wanna apologize to Anna, you should have done that the same day you fired your ex workers.”
“I know. I didn’t know how to.” Allen said.
“I know you Al, you weren’t scared or you didn’t know how to, you were just too prideful to apologize to her, one traits you inherited from your mother.” Sally concluded.
“What do I do?” He asked, pleading with his sister.
“Buy her flowers, send her apology letters, what does she like? Buy it for her.”
“Do I take it to her in person?”
“Allen, you can take it to her in person, but I’m not sure you want to so you can have the gifts delivered to her doorstep. With time she’d melt back to you.” Sally grinned at him.
“I’m such a fool.” Allen said.
“Things happen for a reason. It’s your cross, you gotta bear it.
“I know right.”
“Hello, can I come in?”
The two siblings turned their head toward the door, Allen instantly became irked, her presence irks him, Sally was the one to speak.
“Hi devil, this isn’t your lair, you missed your way.”
Evelyn chuckled nervously, “I’m sorry.”
“You don’t mean that do you?” Sally asked, ready to fire her on every angle she tries to act.
“I apologize and I’m deeply sorry.” Evelyn said, feigning remorse.
“You visited my mother.” Sally started, “Anna has quit, are you here to fill in her post?”
“I didn’t tell your mother to do anything, I only went to her to talk to Allen.”
“And included that Anna was pregnant.” Sally retorts.
“I didn’t mention she was pregnant.” Evelyn lied.
“You’re so pretty when you lie. Pretty little liar.” Sally snickered.
“Allen, I’m so sorry, what else do I have to do to show you how sorry I am.”
“Just leave me the fuck alone, Evelyn move on, stop causing problems in my life.” Allen said, “I’m begging you.”
“I…”
“Time to go baby girl, we have something important to do.” Sally said, her face all serious.
When Evelyn had left, with the help of Sally , he was able to find a shop that sells flowers and could deliver to Anna with an apology card and promised to deliver within an hour after he paid.
“Put your mind at rest.” Sally said, holding his hand.
“When do you go back to uni?”
“Tomorrow, Max is picking me up at mom’s house.” She answered.
“When are you coming back?”
“In a month’s time, the short break is over today and exam is starting next week, I already missed a day out of the revision week.” Sally explained.
“Final year is hard yeah? I can relate.” Allen chuckled.
“I can’t wait to be done for real.” Sally whines, pouting her face.
“A graduate at twenty two.” Allen smiled, “I’m proud of you.”
“I’m turning twenty three by December. I feel old.”
“I feel like I’ve over lived if you’re feeling old.” Allen laughed.
“Max wants us to get married as soon as I graduate.”
“Don’t you want that?” Allen asked.
“I do. We’ve been together since I was eighteen and he was twenty, we are each other dream.” Sally smiled.
“Mom would be so happy.” Allen said.
“At least, she would be happy one of her children did what she wanted, she would never accept the feeling was mutual.”
Allen laughed, “you’re right. I wonder how father coped with her.”
“He handled her well, she was submissive to her husband. They really loved each other.”
“I miss dad.”
“Everyday.”
“He’s proud of us. We should visit hi: grace when you’re back home.” Allen said.
