Chapter 49: For Dignity

Book:The Warlord Is Back Published:2024-5-1

After Robin returned to the hospital, the child’s surgery ended. After dealing with the matters there, Robin and Nina returned home. On the way, Nina praised, “Robin Bailey, you did a good job today and helped me solve the big trouble. I don’t have any debt now. However, don’t think I’ll admit you to be with my sister.”
“Elise is too outstanding for you.”
Nina looked at Robin in a warning.
She still didn’t think Robin deserved Elise.
“Well, whether I deserve Elise, it doesn’t matter now. Don’t forget you declared you would rather kill yourself than call me dearest brother-in-law again. Did you call me again earlier?” Robin reminded her.
“No, I didn’t,” Nina denied it.
“I recorded it.”
Robin pulled at his phone and flicked at her. “I have evidence. Tell me what you want to do now?”
“You jerk!”
Nina threw a punch at him.
She was still an 18-year-old reckless girl. Robin didn’t record it but teased her. Soon, they arrived at Houry’s Villa.
However, they found a ground of vehicles at the villa gate, which contained three Rolls-Royces and ten Hummers. People were busy carrying things from the cars into the house.
“Whoa! Rolls-Royces! What’s happening?”
Nina watched them, her eyes lighting up. The Rolls-Royces at the gate were all top sportscars.
Elise and her parents were standing at the door. “Here you came, Nina,” Karen called Nina.
“What’s going on?” Nina asked, walking to them.
“I don’t know. It’s from the Buosont family. They gave us some top tonics. Each box costs 8, 000 dollars. Also, I saw jade pendants and necklaces in the gift boxes. Almost 600, 000 dollars in total,” Karen said excitedly.
Although she didn’t know what was happening, she had been overjoyed after seeing those gifts, especially the luxurious jewelry.
She loved luxury brands and was a super fan of LV & Co. & Co.
“The Buosont family? Did Timothy Buosont send them here?”
“Right. He did. I wonder why. He said the gifts were for our family.”
Elise looked confused.
“I might know the reason. Earlier, we met Timothy Buosont. He treated me gently, seemingly wanting to be friends with me. I wonder if that’s because of me,” Nina explained shyly.
Karen and Rodney looked at Elise in unison. “Do you know Timothy Buosont?”
“Never met him before.” Elise shook her head.
“Then it must be because of Nina. Elise has never met Timothy Buosont before, and neither have we. Robin Bailey is just good for nothing. How could he have any connection with the Buosont family’s oldest son? Hence, all the gifts are for you, Nina,” Karen concluded.
In excitement, she added, “Nina is a campus belle. Timothy Buosont must have a crush on you. Those gifts are the bride price.”
“Mom!” Nina felt too shy to look at them.
Timothy had a good reputation at the University of Stillwater. He was as handsome as a supermodel and the oldest son of the Buosont family. Hence, a lot of women were obsessed with him. Nina also had a crush on him.
However, she had never expected to be the lucky one.
Timothy’s family was one of the most influential families in Stillwater, which was much better than the Houry family.
“Humph! Look what Timothy did! He gave Nina so many expensive gifts, almost 600, 000 dollars. You are indeed a poor rat. I wonder why we’re so unlucky to let you marry Elise.”
Karen glanced at Robin in disdain.
She had never liked Robin. Compared to Timothy, an elite man from a wealthy family, Robin became more useless in Karen’s opinion.
“You’d better work hard. Don’t wander around. As I said, you must divorce my daughter without making 400, 000 dollars in six months. You have my word.”
Rodney heaved a sigh, looking at Robin.
His oldest daughter, Elise, was more outstanding than Nina in terms of competence and appearance. However, she was unlucky to have met Robin, a loser.
Rodney felt sorry for her.
Elise walked to Robin, holding his hand like a good wife. She replied on his behalf gently, “We got it, Dad, Mom.” Evidently, she had taken Robin’s side.
“Are you sure you want to accept this guy?”
Karen’s expression changed.
“I’m sure.”
Elise nodded. “I need a husband, and Leslie needs a father. He’s a common man, but it’s alright, as long as he’s self-motivated.”
She said those words to console herself as well.
“Humph! Silly girl. You are such a fool. Self-motivated? He’s such a poor guy. In a few years, you’ll know he doesn’t deserve you at all. After Nina marries Timothy, the gap between your families will be much bigger. You’ll definitely regret it by then.”
“Well, it won’t happen, anyway. After all, you will divorce in six months at the most. Robin Bailey wants to earn 400, 000 dollars within a half year? He’d better dream on. The only hope is he can win a lottery.”
Karen darted at Robin and ignored him. Holding Nina’s hand, she warmly talked to her younger daughter and asked how far she’d gone with Timothy.
“Let’s go back to our room. Please don’t take my mother’s words seriously,” Elise consoled Robin.
They returned to her bedroom. There was a king-size bed with a pink bedsheet with cartoon characters, which were Leslie’s favorites.
On the floor next to the bed was the place for Robin to sleep, which was covered by a blanket with a thin quilt.
“In six months, if you failed the agreement with my father, we should divorce peacefully. I hope Leslie could have a father figure instead of a lousy father,” Elise said to Robin after hesitating for a moment.
She and Robin didn’t fall in love seven years ago, and they didn’t love each other so far. Earlier, she accepted him for Leslie’s sake.
However, if Robin didn’t match her requirements and failed the agreement, she would also reject him for Leslie’s sake.
“No problem,” Robin agreed.
Inwardly, he said, ‘I’ll never leave you and Leslie.’
After a thought, Elise added, “Go with me to a business negotiation tomorrow. I want to introduce a company owner to you. You must be self-motivated and fight for your dignity. I don’t expect you to be as outstanding as Timothy Buosont, but you cannot be too ordinary.
