Chapter 40

Book:Save Me Mate Published:2024-5-1

Samantha’s POV
I walked back to the maid’s quarters, my shoulders slightly dropping. I was tired from the day’s activities, I was dead tired and down with a terrible headache also that seemed to threaten to take my head off me.
I sat on my bed and Cassie rushed over to me.
“You do not look so good, did Alpha Kayden punish you?” She asked and I slightly shook my head to indicate the opposite before handing her the balm he had given to me.
“Alpha Kayden did not punish me but he blamed me for the swelling on my forehead,” I replied her.
“You should not have apologized for hitting your head when you very well know that it is already in a bad shape,” she replied and I sighed.
“Just forget about it, all I want to do right now is to sleep,” I replied her, laying down on my bed.
“Why don’t you let apply this balm first?” She asked.
“Just do whatever you want to,” I mumbled tiredly and she smeared some of the balms on my forehead, her hands touching my forehead lightly, she was pretty careful to avoid the pain becoming unbearable but still yet it was kind of too much, even the light brushing hurt so much.
“Are you having a headache?” She asked and I nodded.
“I should just get you some pain relievers and then you should try to sleep in a way which you would not hit your forehead,” she replied, moving over to her bag.
“I am sorry I got into this,” I said to Cara.
“It’s okay, I understand you. It’s just that Alpha Kayden, he is so complicated to understand.” Cara grumbled.
“No, he is not, I am simply the one who is too stupid to understand him,” I replied and Cassie stretched a cup of water and some pills to me.
“Here, have it to relieve you of your pains,” Cassie said to me and I took it from her, giving her a small smile which seemed to worsen the headache I was having.
I lifted up the pills to my mouth and took them with a grateful gulp. Amid everyone and everything, I still had one who cared for me.
Just then, a doctor came into the quarters.
“Who is miss Samantha?” She asked and I weakly raised my hands, knowing that this was the doctor Alpha Kayden had told me would come to treat me.
“Let me take a look at your forehead,” he said sitting on the bed while Cassie shifted away to give him some space.
“You are going to be fine very soon, it is actually nothing serious.”
Lauren’s POV
My heart skipped several beats as the mind link got across to me, those words were cold and short, just ‘to my room’
I had no idea what must be going on in the mind of Alpha Kayden right at this moment but whatever it was it wasn’t going to be super good for me.
I was already in the living room watching movies with Kayden’s mum at the time I got the message.
“I have to go see Kayden ma’am,” I said to her.
“Oh alright and the both of you should stop whatever fight is between you both, I don’t understand how you both went from being best of friends to this distant… Distant people,” she said and I gave her a small nod with a pleasant smile.
I headed upstairs to the corridors that led to Alpha Kayden’s room. I stood by his door and gulped down nothing, I was pretty scared, the cold look that he gave me when he was about to leave the dining table told me clearly that he very well knew that I was the one who pushed Samantha towards his mother but then that was something I had to do, I at least had to make them hate her for her carelessness and find several reasons to send her out of this building.
“In Lauren.” his voice came directly, it indicated that he had already taken in my scent previously and that I had just wasted my time, staying out of the door.
I slowly opened the room after breathing in and out deeply, I just had to pretend not to know anything about all his accusations if he was going to point one towards me.
“Come closer,” he ordered, not even sparing me a glance.
“Good day, “I said to him in a bright voice taking my seat on the couch that sat behind me.
“I do not remember telling you to sit down.” he started, his eyes on his wristwatch
“I… I just wanted to have a rest but if you want me standing, I could stand.” I replied and got up from the couch expecting him to eventually tell me to take back my seat.
“Keep standing while I talk, I do not want my room to be infected with your presence,” he replied and I almost gasped.
Kayden allowed in a miserly maid but he is not even giving me a chance to sit down. What does that mean? Samantha’s presence does not infect his room but mine does?
“I saw what you did at the dining room,” he said and I immediately swung until action, pretending that I had no clue about what he just said.
“What do you mean?” I asked and his sharp eyes landed on me making me gulp down.
“You very well know how much I detest repeating words, right?” He asked.
“I do, I know that more than any other person because I know you best,” I replied him.
“I did not ask you for all those.” his words still had a particular focus, one that did not seem like he would be changing soon.
“What you did in the dining room… ” He demanded, his voice filled with impatience.
“I… I did nothing.” I replied to him and he got up from where he was seated on the bed, leaving his manly structure that I loved so much away from the king-sized bed that beautified his room particularly.
“You did nothing….. Swift and quite a great denial,” he replied and I gulped down nothing.
“Wh… What do you mean by swift and great denial?” I asked him.
“When I am asking you things? You do not ask me! I ask the questions here and not you Lauren!” He called and I noticed the way he called my name, it was distant, cold and without any sort of emotion.
Yeah, it has always been like that ever since I told him about my feelings for him but no, today it sounded more distant than usual.
“I… I am sorry, it was just a mistake, I was just going to move my arm a bit and I mistakenly hit her, and… Samantha is such a kind soul, she did not even let me out.”I said to him with a faux smile, trying to pretend that I at least appreciated Samantha.
He took two heavy steps towards me, his face was so sharp on me that I eventually had to look away, I could no longer stand the intensity of his eyes.
He leaned in closer to me, making my breath hitch but it wasn’t in a romantic way but instead, he made my breath hitch out of something I could not call fear.
“Let go of Mantha, she is just a maid who does not deserve what she is going through in your hands but then if you do a thing to Mantha, I am going to do twice of it back to you, I promise you that.”
