Kayden’s POV
I sat on the chair in my room, seething with anger that ran through me, I could hardly believe that Mantha had to beg me on behalf of that girl, the very one that had almost put her in trouble.
Does she have an idea what I could have done to her if I had lost it earlier? She does not know. Back then, I was tempted to give in to her pleas but then I could not change my decisions, I have always been that way. The only person that made me change my decisions was mum, no other person could and I was not ready to include Mantha on the list of people that could.
My mind drifted slowly to the image of her hitting her forehead on the hard floor.
“She is just a stupid girl!” I groaned.
Why would she plead on behalf of her enemy? What if I let go of that girl and the girl tries to harm her again?! Then I would never be able to find out what’s the mystery behind her.
I looked at the door for some spilt moments before a knock came on my door followed by the swift opening of the door before I could even usher the person in. It was mum, I took in her scent as she walked into the room.
“Hey son,” she said but I was not looking at her, I could, however, bet that she still had on get a face that smiles that was always there, that smile that made me always wonder if mum ever had any troubles in her life.
“Mum,” I mumbled and she slowly patted my hair.
“Mum, do not try to beg on anyone’s behalf,” I said to her.
“C’mon, even Samantha is not annoyed, right?” mum asked.
“She is not annoyed? Yes she is not, first, it was Melissa and now that lady, and she is never annoyed, when would she be annoyed? When she is killed?” I asked.
“Are you caring about her?” mum asked and I looked away.
“I asked a question.” mum said and I turned back to her with a soft sigh.
Mum, I have a reason for bringing Mantha into this home, a reason that is unknown to everyone except me. How am I supposed to do what I want to do when she gets killed by those haters?” I asked.
“C’mon, everyone seems to know that you treat her a bit better than others.”
“I do not mum.” I refused.
“You do.” mum insisted.
“I do not, I have a reason for everything. I think I made a mistake, I should not have handed that girl over to the guys, I should have killed her myself, maybe I should just go and get that done right now.” I said, getting up from my seat but mum pressed me back to my seat.
“Hey, don’t be so consumed by your rage. I am trying to calm you down and not make you go angry over again.” mum said.
“Well, that’s kind of impossible,” I replied.
“Kayden.” mum called softly.
“You can sack her to keep Samantha safe for the reason you brought her in but getting rid of her… you know you have to steer clear of criminal cases with humans.” mum said.
“Then humans should at least try to control themselves, they should not annoy me,” I said.
“I know Kayden, just forget about it.” mum said and I kept quiet for a while.
“There’s no difference between Mantha and your mum, she too kept on pleading on behalf of the girl.” I groaned.
“Just let her go, I will make sure she leaves for his place immediately.” mum said and I looked at her one more time.
“Let her go,” she said and I sighed.
“You both do not understand that a kind heart does not rule the world, it does not,” I said.
“Yeah, but at least a kind heart has a position in the world.”
“Go and do whatever you want to do mum but I must not ever see her again, the very day I see her again, I am going to get rid of her without thinking twice,” I said to mum and she nodded.
“Okay, thank you, son,” she said and walked out of the room.
The door shut after she and I ran a hand through my hair.
“They never seem to understand,” I said to Jay.
“You are just trying to protect them, I understand you. ”
“I am not trying to protect Mantha in the real sense, I just want to know what precisely she is hiding, I am just curious about it,” I said but I could feel that the rage I was feeling was very much more than curiosity.
If there was any other thing, I had no idea what it was.
“If she gets killed or I get angry and throw her back into the streets, how in the world would I then satisfy my curiosity?” I asked Jay and he just let out a sigh.
“I understand you,” he said but I felt like his words had a deeper meaning that he refused to tell me.
Maybe a bath would be the best thing to have right now.
I pulled off my clothes and dumped them into the laundry bag. I tied a towel around my naked and headed into the bathroom.
I took a cold and long bath and its effects could not be overemphasized, the cold water had always been a source of calmness in my life and at this point, it was too.
“Kayden.” I heard a soft and familiar voice.
I turned slowly in the shower and wiped off the cold water from my face so I could see clearly.
“y… you… you are back?” I mumbled a stutter to her while she smiled.
“I love you Kayden, I have always loved you and I would forever do,” she said in that soft voice.
“But you do not love me anymore,” she said and I shook my head.
“No… I do… I do love you.” I said to her and the smile on her face disappeared and slowly she faded too, slowly.
Yes, she was gone, I was just hallucinating, I had lost her a long time ago and even though her memories haunt me, she would never come back. she was gone, forever.
