Samantha’s POV
My eyes moved from the old lady to Ma’am Melissa then back to the old lady.
“I said Cassie and Samantha, back to your seat.” the old lady repeated and Cassie grabbed my hand.
We both took our tray of food to the table and sat before the table.
“Any objections Melissa?” The old lady asked.
“None ma’am,” Melissa replied but her voice and the look on her face said otherwise.
“Good, I will take it that this issue is settled and I will leave.” the old lady said.
“Thank you so much, ma’am.” I and Cassie chorused.
“Thanks for the justice,” Cassie yelled after the old lady.
“You are so brave and bold.” I gave her a thumbs up.
“A few days with me and you’d become as brave as I am but then you would have to go through a whole lot of pains too,” she replied with a grin.
“If only you knew how much pains I have grown upbearing,” I said to myself and began eating the meal.
I felt someone’s eyes on me and when I turned towards the door, my eyes met with that of Ma’am Melissa.
I quickly looked away and focused on the meal I was devouring.
Writer’s POV
The three slave masters who knew about Samantha running away from them were still in deep thoughts, they had no idea where the slave girl was currently.
“We don’t even know if she is dead.”
“It would be great if she is dead, her being alive is a great risk to us all. What if she spills the truth?”
“Maybe we should tell the other bosses, maybe they can find her faster.”
“How can you be so dumb?! That would result in us being killed with immediate effect. And the girl, how is she going to be found? We don’t even clearly recognize her face, are we going to start checking the necks of every lady we find outside? Ugh?” Another questioned.
“Then what do we do?”
“Just continue searching for her, once any of you get here, get rid of her at the spot, that’s the only way the secret can be safe.”
“Are you guys even thinking about the probability that she is no longer in this town?”
“Where the hell would she go? And even she’s not in this town, she must be in some other closeby towns. No matter where she is, ours is to find her, and kill her so she can see with the secret of the slave trade.”
“I would go south of the town to search.”
“I would go North then.”
“Guess I would be taking onto the Western and the Eastern part.”
Kayden’s POV
I packed my things up in my briefcase, grabbed my jacket and slipped it on.
Time to get going home.
Immediately my mind denoted the word ‘home’ the first image that appeared in my mind was Mantha.
I shook it off with a slight shake of my head, grabbed my now packed up briefcase and exited the office. The office was deserted by the time I was leaving, I checked my wristwatch and shook my head.
Work should have been over about two hours ago, I guess I was just too engrossed in working to have noticed that time had gone by too fast.
The car door was opened for me and I stepped into the car, tugging at my tie at the same time.
“Slow Ride,” I mumbled and the car set out slowly while I looked out of the window, the air was soft, not too hard against my face but just cool enough to refresh me.
I stared outside the window at the lights that illuminated the night. In minutes the car stopped in front of the mansion and the door was opened in a few seconds.
I stepped out of the car and my briefcase was taken from me. I walked in and thankfully mum was not in the living room or we would be going into another session of talks.
I walked briskly to my room, received my briefcase and pulled off the tie, taking the red piece off me.
I plopped to the bed, staring at the ceiling in silence for some time. I got up from the bed, had a refreshing long bath, got dressed up in my pyjamas and stepped out of my room, locking it behind me as was my habit.
I wanted to get myself a cup of juice which I could easily have a maid give to me but I just decided to take the walk myself.
I walked down the stairs till my eyes caught sight of something, dirt on the stairs, it seemed to me like dark tooth had been rubbed on the spot and had been wiped but not enough to cover it away from my eyes.
I looked back up and I could see the tiny traces of smooth all over.
How much I hated dirt I could not describe. Just at that exact moment, I saw a group of maids walking by, amidst them was Mantha.
“Good day Alpha Kayden.” they chorused.
“Which of you cleaned the stairs?” I asked, ignoring their earlier questions.
There was silence.
“I am asking a question!” I thundered and they all shuddered.
“I did” one of the maids trembling voices came up and she moved out from the crowd.
“You can’t even clean properly anymore? You’ve spent years here and you still know not how to clean the stairs”
“I… I was also involved in the cleaning of Alpha Kayden.” I heard a familiar voice, Mantha.
My eyes darted towards her wildly as she stepped out from the others and stood beside the maid who came out first.
I glared at her hard but suddenly I could not lash out as much as I would have done.
“I would take it as you being new to this but I would not give a second chance, taken?”
“I appreciate your grace Alpha Kayden.” she bowed repeatedly.
“And who walked in with smooth that stained the stairs so badly?” I asked another vital question.
“She… She is…”
“Speak up!”
“Samantha knows who she is Alpha Kayden.” the girl beside me said and on normal days I would have gotten angry that she referred me to another person for my answers but today I just let it slide.
“Mantha?”
“She… She…”
“No stuttering!”
“She is ma’am Melissa.” She finally let out.
Melissa staining the stairs with sooth… Where could she have gotten the sooth from in the first place? The Melissa I knew hated dirt, why would she walkabout with sooth on her?
“Mantha, follow me,” I ordered and turned back, heading to my room and letting go of my earlier mission of getting a cup of juice.
“Yes, Alpha.” I heard her timid voice reply and soon her footsteps could be heard just behind me.
I opened the door to my room and stepped in, leaving the door wide open but she did not step into the room, it was clear that she was hesitating to do so perhaps because of the incident of Lauren almost slapping her because she stepped into my room.
“Come in.” I groaned with an impatient tone and she slowly walked in, her eyes as usual glued to the floor.
“Sit,” I said in a commanding tone while taking my seat on the chair just behind my reading table.
“Yes Alpha Kayden.” she stuttered a reply and sat on the sofa behind her.
“Melissa brought in sooth, why?” I asked, not expecting a credible answer from her.
“Actually… Alpha Kayden, it… She seems to… it seems like.” I watched her stutter while playing with her fingers.
“Mantha, can you just feel at ease and tell me?!”
“You’re yelling at a human and expects her to feel at ease? Who are you kidding?” Jay asked me and I mentally rolled my eyes.
Okay! Just to get her to tell me what I want to know about Melissa, I wouldn’t yell at her.
“All these situations when you could just easily pick Melissa and make her tell you everything,” Jay added but I ignored this statement and instead followed the first one.
“Mantha, feel at ease,” I mumbled in a soft voice and saw her shoot her head up, her eyes widened with a look of surprise or should I say shock?
