Chapter 21

Samantha’s POV
“Then I would get to work immediately,” I replied with my eyes on the stained stairs.
Cassie said nothing but I could hear her heavy breathing, Cassie was not the type who could control her temper and keep her cool in all sorts of situations but I was just that type of person.
“Hardworking Samantha, clean it well.” ma’am Melissa smiled, chuckled and then walked away.
“That witch.” Cassie seethed as soon as Ma’am Melissa was out of hearing the shot.
“I feel like rubbing sooth on her face, she did this intentionally, she just wants to get us more and more job, witchy and bitchy!” Cassie almost screamed.
“C’mon, we’d better start again. We’ve got not much time you know.”I reminded her and the both of us grumpily climbed up the stairs with the cleaning materials and resumed cleaning but this time around we were fast with the cleaning, for two major reasons, we did not want Ma’am Melissa to come back here and make a mess of our day’s work again and also it would be time to eat lunch very soon. We had to finish up quickly and go to the dining room or else we would be losing our meal for the day.
In a few minutes, we were both done cleaning the stairs. the both of us stood at the foot of the stairs and stared at the long stairs we had just finished cleaning.
“Nice job!” Cassie complimented and raised her hand for a high five which I gladly took.
“You are so sweaty, you’d better go take another bath,” Cassie remarked.
“You can take your bath as much as you want?” I asked and she nodded, smiles broke off my face repeatedly.
To think that I, who was not allowed to bath while in slavery could now take a bath several times in here.
“I bless the day I met Alpha Kayden,” I mumbled to myself.
“What did you say?” Cassie asked.
“Oh… Nothing at all,” she replied.
“I heard you, you clearly said you bless the day you met Alpha Kayden. Why would you say that? He is most of us nightmares, his face is such a beautiful thing to join at. One could look at it all day without ever getting tired but then his ruthlessness.” she shook her head, feigning a shudder.
“Meeting him is not much of a blessing.” she finished her words.
“He brought me here, he took me in from the streets. I am scared of him as well, but then his appearance in my life is still yet a blessing.” I replied her.
“Perhaps, c’mon, let’s not talk about him anymore. Who knows? He might have returned from work and is listening to us and then he will rip our heads off.” Cassie whispered to me.
“Okay, let’s go and have our meal then,” I replied and she threw her hands over my shoulders.
“Sure,” she said gleefully and we both found our way to the dining hall for the maids.
It was filled already and there were just a few chairs that were left vacant in one corner of the room.
“There! I love the spot, why would no one be sitting at such a lovely spot? Let’s eat over there.” Cassie suggested and I smiled at her a bit.
The spot was really lovely, I could not help but look forward to the meal I was going to be given this afternoon.
We went to the front and after waiting a few minutes in the queue, we got our food and returned to the seat where we were intending to sit down.
I and Cassie placed our tray of food on the table and was about to sit when a voice halted us.
“Samantha, Cassie.” I recognized the harsh and now pretty familiar voice to be Ma’am Melissa
“Good day ma’am.” I greeted.
“I see you guys are done cleaning the stairs,” she mumbled.
“Yes ma, we are very much done with the cleaning of the stairs” I replied her.
“And you are about to have your meal at this table?” She asked a question that had a pretty obvious question whilst slowly running her hands around the table.
“Yes ma’am,” Cassie responded to the question this time around.
“Well, there is no way you will be sitting down here to eat because I have these maids here and they also want to eat while sitting.”
“Oh, that’s great ma’am, we could just get some extra chairs and we all can make use of the table,” Cassie replied, pretending not to totally grasp the fact that ma’am Melissa was telling us to get away from this place.
“Cassie! I am not in for any sort of jokes, the both of you take whatever you have and get out of here, allow them to sit in peace here to eat,” she said to us, her voice slightly raised at Cassie.
“But… Sorry to say this ma’am Melissa, we saw this place first, we got here first, we should be the one staying here.” Cassie replied and I held her hand, giving it a light squeeze to tell her not to actually get pissed off.
“Are you telling me now that I am irrelevant and that you won’t be leaving this table?” Ma’am Melissa asked.
“I dare not,” Cassie replied.
“Really? Then can you kindly explain to me what you are doing currently? I want you to pack your food and find somewhere else.”
“But ma’am Melissa, there is no somewhere else,” Cassie complained.
“Then have your seat on the floor of the dining room, that isn’t an abomination you know,” she replied and I felt that Cassie wanted to talk again so I pulled her have, giving it a small tug.
“We will take our leave ma’am Melissa, “I replied her.
“Good!” She mumbled and watched the both of us grab our trays.
“Well, we have no choice but to eat while standing….”
“What’s going on here?” An old crackling voice came up, and I turned towards the direction to see the old lady, the head of the maids.
“Thank goodness,” Cassie mumbled.
“Ma’am there is nothing much.” Ma’am Melissa replied old lady but the old lady’s eyes were on us to indicate that was awaiting a reply from the both of us.
“We got to this seat first and as we were about to sit, Miss Melissa told us she wanted some other people to sit there, as maids showing our utmost respect to Miss. Melissa, we left immediately.” Cassie replied.
“Melissa?” The old lady asked.
“Yes,” Melissa replied, her voice filled with what seemed like hatred towards us all.
“Cassie and Samantha, back to the seat.” the old lady replied her eyes fixated on Miss Melissa.
