Chapter 20

Book:Save Me Mate Published:2024-5-1

Lauren’s POV
“You see how nice she is?” Kayden’s mum smiled as Samantha left.
“Yeah, she is really nice. I guess I just misunderstood her from our first meeting.” I replied with a fake smile, hoping I was able to perfectly hide the disgust in my voice.
“Yes, I misunderstood her on my first meeting with her also.” She replied to me with a smile that would pass as genuine.
“Aaah, I am just stressed about Kayden, I still do not know why he is refusing to talk about his mate, he is not attempting to even find her.”
“I’d better not talk about this issue with you ma’am, Alpha Kayden might hear it and start scolding me for talking about this issue,” I replied, grabbing my bag.
I needed to go and cool off my brain, I need to do something to let out my anger.
“I’d be leaving now ma’am.”
“Yeah bye and try getting along with Samantha on your next meeting,” she replied.
“Get along with a maid?” I almost screamed but then perhaps due to my immense surprise, my voice was reduced to nearly a whisper.
“What did you say?”
“Oh… I said I would try my best to. Thanks a lot, ma’am, I would get going now.”I said with another faux smile and walked away from the living room.
I stepped out of the mansion and came across Melissa.
“Melissa,” I called.
“Madam Lauren.” she bowed slightly in front of me.
“Take care of Samantha, take care of her very well,” I said, emphasising my words.
Melissa raised her brows and looked at me.
“She is new and so pure, take care of her in the next manner suitable for someone like her,” I added and a knowing smile appeared on her face, spreading slowly across her small lips.
“Of course ma’am.”
“Then I would be trusting you to do that,” I said with a smirk and got into my car.
Samantha’s POV
I glanced backwards and saw Lauren staring intently at me, her eyes told of the hatred she had for me, I didn’t know exactly what I did to deserve that hatred but I knew that I had earned the hatred.
The look on her face told me that she was going to deal with me, how was a question I had no response to but when it was going to be, I knew that would be soon.
I looked forward and walked off into the maid’s quarters, plopping to my bed with a sigh. I ran a hand through my hair as I remembered the look on her face.
“This is sure better than being in the hands of slavery, right?” Cara asked and it made sense, there was nothing Lauren was going to be doing to me, that I have not experienced something worse.
“Yes, that’s true, I am strong already, she can really do nothing to me that will hurt so freaking much,” I replied in a mumble.
“Hey, you’re here,” Cassie said, walking into the quarters and I responded with a small smile.
“Yes I am, I have pretty much nothing to do. Just waiting for the next orders that I will receive.” I replied.
“I am quite jobless too, you took over my job in the morning, you remember?” She asked and I nodded.
“Is this the little work that you all do here?” I asked.
“Sure, the maids are numerous, so definitely there is lesser work for everyone.”
“Well, not for everyone.” Melissa, the assistant head of the maids said walking in.
“Ma’am, good day.” I greeted while Cassie just bowed slightly.
“And what do you think you are doing here chatting away when there’s so much work to do?” She asked.
“I… I have no idea there was so much work at hand, where should I get to work?” I asked.
“You do ask me? Where were you assigned to?” She asked.
“Didn’t she see you in Alpha Kayden’s room this morning? She is really serious about this question?” Cara whispered to me.
“I was assigned to Alpha Kayden’s room and….”
“Enough of the ranting, how can you be assigned there in the first place? You are reassigned to….”
“Alpha Kayden assigned her to his room personally.” Cassie cut in.
“Oh… O… Okay, then just go and clean up somewhere, you should still do some other things.” Melissa said.
“Yes ma’am,” I replied and got off my bed.
“And you too Cassie,” she added and Cassie stood up.
“Where should we clean up?” Cassie asked.
“The living room.”
“The living room has been cleaned ma’am Melissa,” Cassie replied while I just kept mute.
“Then the corridors.”
“They have been cleaned too.”
“The stairs.” Ma’am Melissa instructed.
“It has been cleaned also.”
“I passed through the stairs just now, it is not clean enough, go back there and clean it up once more,” she ordered.
Cassie wanted to speak to but I held her hands and led the both of us out of the quarters.
“That slimy woman just does not want the both of us to have a rest,” Cassie grumbled.
“She does not like me.”
“Who likes her too? She is the assistant for Chrissake! Not the real head.” Cassie groaned.
“Let’s just get to work and get it over with,” I replied a raging Cassie.
“That wicked woman.”
“You can do nothing to her even if you rage so much in here,” I added.
“Just because she is higher in status does not mean she should take out any form of anger at us.” Cassie seethed as we moved towards the stairs after grabbing the cleaning equipment.
“Why do you think she hates me?”
“Maybe… I don’t know.” Cassie suddenly shrugged.
“I still can’t get why she and ma’am Lauren dislikes me immediately, “I mumbled.
“Don’t talk about the both of them, let’s just stay here and clean up really slow so that we would not be given another chore once we are done.”
“Wow! Cassie.” I chuckled.
“That’s one of the things you should know, do your chores really slow so you wouldn’t be assigned another task.” She replied and I smiled, shaking my head slightly in a way that clearly told her that I found her mischievous.
We spent a long while cleaning and talking at the same time, we had spent over half an hour there and though we were almost done, it was evident that the both of us in our minds were determined to even slow down the page of our work even more.
“You both are still on this?” I heard the harsh voice that I immediately recognized to be ma’am Melissa’s voice.
“We… We are almost done, ma’am.” I mumbled a reply and heard her scoff as she walked down the stairs.
When she got where she was standing she dusted her shoe on the stairs, staining the stairs with the smooth on her shoe.
I looked forward and found out that she has been staining the stairs all along to the point where we were.
“Oops, I got some smooth on my shoe, seems like you would have to do it again Samantha.”
