Chapter 17

Book:Save Me Mate Published:2024-5-1

Samantha’s POV.
“Uhm… It’s nothing.” I replied, quickly covering up my neck with my hair.
“That sure looks strange,” she commented and I let out nervous laughter although I could hear my own heart beating hard and fast against my ribcages.
“It is not so strange, just a mark in my family, the friends I made in street told me it has always been there.” I cooked up a quick lie hoping it was believable enough.
I did not want anyone in this place finding out my identity as a slave, I might be treated as one again… And who in the world is proud of being tagged a slave?
“Really? Your family must have been unique, the mark looks cool,” she replied.
If only she knew the pains and burdens that the mark brought along, she would never, never refer to it as cool. Cool was the last word one would use to describe the situation I was in.
“Maybe, I don’t know them,” I replied and that was not a lie.
I don’t know how any of my family looks like, I only have some descriptions about them from Granny and a rough sketch of them she drew on the hard floor with a stone and the rough sketch didn’t look so good, first, how could someone draw with a stone on the hard floor and expect it to be perfect and secondly how could someone like Granny who so much sucked at drawing draw a perfect picture anyways? But I loved her and she loved me too, she was the only one in the world that made me feel love and maybe, just maybe I would find someone who would love me since I am now out of that horrible place.
“What are you thinking about? You’d better eat up, we would have to get back to work very soon. You’re done eating or not, you would have to leave the dining hall, of course, leave the food behind.” Cassie cut into my thoughts and I smiled at her before faxing my plate of food.
As I ate the food, I couldn’t get the taste because my mind was far away, my mouth and hands were moving but my mind was thinking about Granny, I missed her so much.

Kayden’s POV
No longer in the mood to go jogging and since the time for my jogging has gone, I decided to go to work.
I undress and tied a towel around my waist, moving into the bathroom. I turned on the shower and the cold water slid down my skin.
I never used hot water, I have always loved cold water even in cold weather, I continued to use the cold water. Mum usually remarks that my incessant use of cold water contributed to me being cold.
Maybe that was true, maybe I loved the cold water because it fitted my cold personality. I spent some minutes in the shower taking a thorough bath before finally stepping out of the shower.
I picked a towel and tied it around my waist, I picked another one and ruffled my wet hair with it, drying my hair in the process.
I walked into my room and dressed up for work in minutes.
“Stunning as usual.” I heard her voice in my head, that was what she would have said seeing me.
I gulped down, sending down the thoughts of her along with it.
I grabbed my suitcase and walked out of the room.
“My son is dressed and ready for today.” mum said with a smile and I kissed her cheeks.
“You keep kissing my cheeks but then I know there is no feeling, you are just doing it like it’s just a habit and nothing more.” mum added and I pressed my lips into a thin line.
“I’ll be leaving, bye,” I replied.
“You’ve seen Samantha this morning? I want to have a look at the beautiful girl.” mum said, her voice filled with glee.
“She must be around mum, get her. I have to leave.” I held back a groan, checking my wristwatch.
“Oh, Lauren is down there. Lauren dear.” mum said with a smile and began to walk down the stairs.
I followed suit and stopped in front of mum and Lauren, my eyes staring intensely at Lauren. She slowly dropped her head and diverted her gaze to the floor.
“Lauren,” I called in a voice that would send chills even to a cold person.
“A… Alpha Kayden.” she stuttered.
“You going into my room today, what’s the reason behind it?”
“I… I am sorry.” she apologized.
“I didn’t tell you to apologize, I asked for a reason,” I replied her, my voice audibly impatient.
“I… I thought you were in there but when I knocked, a girl’s voice was heard. I knew you would not let anyone in your room when you were not there… So… So I thought someone broke into your room and I decided to check… For your safety.” she stuttered but I knew this was a lie.
“Stop frightening Lauren.” mum said to me but I still kept my eyes on Lauren.
“But wait a minute, who is this girl you’re talking about? The girl alone in your room.” mum requested.
“Mantha, I let her into my room,” I replied mum, not breaking my gaze off Lauren.
“You… You let Samantha into your room?!” Mum shrieked and I knew she was going to start exaggerating things right away.
“Yes, I did.”
“First, you brought her home from nowhere, rushed down-home to save her from me and now you let her into your room while you aren’t present there.” mum recounted the events, events that I had reasons for, I was going to know who is this mystery girl with a pleasant scent trailing around her.
“Lauren,” I called and moved two steps forwards towards her.
“Listen to me carefully. I want you to stay away from my life, my room and every other thing I am involved in, I want you to stay away from the maids who serve me, the merciful grace I am granting onto you today, I definitely won’t grant another day.”
