Chapter 16

Book:Save Me Mate Published:2024-5-1

Kayden’s POV
I stared at the door that had shut now. There was something about her that I still hadn’t placed a finger on.
There’s a mystery overshadowing her and that’s why I gave her access to my room.
*Flashback*
I woke up pretty early and decided to go jogging before I came back to get ready for work, which I did not usually attend to early on Saturdays.
Before I opened the door, I could scent them most especially her pleasant scent, Mantha.
I opened the door and she moved back along with the other maid who had been cleaning my room for quite a while now.
“Good morning Alpha.” they both bowed in greetings.
“A… Alpha, since you are… Not going to be in your… your room, we would take our leave and be back later.” the other girl beside Mantha said.
“Mantha,” I called.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Go into my room and clean it up, you only,” I said and watched her brows furrow.
I walked away from the scene and went to the monitor room. I had my reasons for letting her into my room, I wanted to see if she was intending to steal from me or if all her acts were staged just to get something from me.
I watched her admire the things in my room through the monitors and in seconds, she began the cleaning.
It seemed like she was not really searching for something, it seemed like she was just there to clean and leave.
Fee minutes later, the door opened and I saw Melissa walk in.
“So much disrespect,” I mumbled.
I didn’t make any move, I wanted to see what was going to transpire so I remained glued to where I was seated and watched Melissa talk to her but it seemed more like yelling at her.
I felt a part in me want to growl and get angry but since I couldn’t hear what they were saying, it was meaningless to get angry.
But Melissa sure did have a query to answer for going into my room without permission. A few moments later, she barged out of the room and Mantha went in cleaning.
Several minutes later, the door opened again and this time it was Lauren.
I growled and stamped my fist against the table in front of me in anger. How dare they go into my room without my permission?
I gritted my teeth as I watched Lauren visibly and obviously tell at Mantha who mumbled only a few words on some occasions.
From the look on Lauren’s face and years of understanding Lauren’s personality, I knew she would turn things into violence very soon.
The realization of that fact got me up from my seat and I stormed off back to my room. Jay growled too, somehow he seemed to be protective of Mantha.
*Flashback ends.*
Lauren was getting on my nerves, I would have gotten rid of her if not for old times sake and the fact that mum still loved Lauren a lot.
Lauren was being nothing but a pain in the ass to me, she knew only how to disturb with her silky and stupid advances.
I stood up from where I was seated and watched myself in the mirror. I gazed at the unsmiling man that stood as me in the mirror, that was me, this was now my life ever since she left.
Maybe this has always been me, the me I have always had covered under up, the me that just needed a little push to get out and that little push I had gotten.
This life was better, at least I had my respect even though I knew there was still that soft me somewhere hidden, I wished it would be hidden forever, I wished it would never come to the surface for anyone again.
Samantha’s POV
“Why?” I whispered.
I did not clearly understand why it would be one of these greatest crimes for which you could get amputated or even lose your life to talk about Alpha Kayden’s mate.
“He doesn’t want a mate and he hates it when others talk about his mate,” she replied in a whisper back to me and I nodded in understanding.
“But aren’t mates something to be happy about?” I asked again.
“Not for Alpha Kayden and don’t ask me why, no one knows why. You should see him when he is having a run, he looks so handsome and charming, every girl wants him but he wants no one,” she replied, her voice still as low as a whisper.
“Strange life,” I mumbled inaudibly.
“Now forget about the topic before we get in trouble for speaking about it,” Cassie replied as we took our food to a table.
We dug into the delicious food and began eating. This was much better, all the meals I had here were much better than the bread and soup that we were served every day while in slavery.
“You don’t have any friends here?” I asked, noticing that she was not interacting with the others much.
“Not really, we talk but we don’t talk.”
“What do you mean by that?” I chuckled.
“Maybe they just do not find me,” she replied.
“You are interesting, who would think you are not interesting?”
“Others,” she replied.
“Where were you before?” She asked me and I gulped.
“On the streets, stealing and picking pockets,” I replied.
“Really? You don’t look in any way like a thief.”
“It won’t be nice for a thief to look like one, I would get easily caught that way, won’t I?” I asked with nervous laughter, unknowingly sweeping off my hair off my neck and exposing the mark of me being a slave in the process.
“Oh yeah you would,” she affirmed, laughing with me.
“What’s your best food?” She asked and I kept quiet for a while.
How would I have the best food when all I have eaten my whole life was bread and soup?
“My best food is every food! I love all food I eat.” I replied.
“Funny life you live.” she complimented.
“Wait a minute, what’s that mark on your neck?”
