CHAPTER SIXTY-FOUR.
Danielle had still not given up on Jamal. After her confrontation with Adele, she was even more heartbroken and confused. She had thought Adele was an easy girl she was going thread over, but Adele had proven to be fierce and she had even made understand that she was never to leave Jamal for her.
Also, Shannele told her how Jamal scolded their mother for confronting Adele and she was beginning to lose hope. If Aliya couldn’t help her, then it was all left to her to figure things out for herself and she could only do so by talking to Jamal.
She barged into his office at the conglomerate and he was seated as usual on his office table, typing away on his laptop. The moment he raised his head and looked at her, his gaze darkened and he quickly rose to his feet.
“Jamal!” She called in tears as she rushed over to him, but when she was close, she didn’t have the courage to stretch out her hand and touch him. She stood a few meters away from and looked at him, crying and fidgeting with her fingers.
“Jamal please hear me out!” She cried, almost hiccupping on her words.
“Danielle, how many times have I warned you not to barge into my office like you own the building?”
“Jamal I’m sorry, but I can’t help it. I just can’t accept the fact that you are choosing Adele over me. Jamal, what does she have that I don’t? Jamal I’m pretty enough to be your wife, I have a very good career, yes, I might be hot headed, but I’m willing to change for you. I am willing to be the woman you want me to be.” She cried and Jamal heaved out an exasperated sigh.
Danielle was seriously getting out of hand and he was running out of ways to deal with her.
If Adele were to come into his office right now and meet them, that would be a big problem and he didn’t want that. Things were just starting to go well between them, he didn’t want to lose his chance.
“Danielle.” He called . “I don’t want to have this conversation with you. I have nothing to say to you, so please leave!” He ordered, but Danielle shook her head in denial.
“No, I won’t. I’m not gonna leave until you chose me.” She was crying like a five year old. “You have to choose me Jamal. I have been in your life way longer than Adele. We are childhood friends. I have helped you overcome the greatest challenge in your life. Without me, your life would have been a nightmare. You would have been locked up in prison for crimes you did not commit and your reputation would’ve been completely ruined. You owe me Jamal and I want you to pay me back by choosing me over Adele. She doesn’t deserve you, I do!” She scolded at the top of her voice and Jamal had had enough of her foolish talks.
He quietly picked up his phone and dialed Sean’s number.
“Hello Sean.” He greeted once Sean answered the call. “I need you to send security in my office. There’s someone they need to drag out of here.”
“They’ll be right there, Mr. King.”
Jamal ended the call and turned to look at Danielle who was now chuckling in tears.
‘`You just called the security on me?” She asked in total disbelief and Jamal nodded.
“If I were you, I’d leave right now because when they come, it’s going to get messed up for you.”
“And do I look like I care? Jamal, right now I have no shame and I am ready to cause a scene in this building so that Adele will witness it. I want her to see what she is making me go through!” She screamed at the top of her voice and immediately, the office door opened up. About ten very muscular and frightful looking men dressed in black walked into the office and bowed down to Jamal.
“Get her out of here.” Jamal ordered as he took his seat once more.
“Don’t you dare come close to me!” Danielle threatened, but the men paid no heed to her threat. Two of them walked over to her and grabbed her arms.
“Let go of me! Let go of me you morons!” She began to scream and thrash around as the men carried her out of Jamal’s office.
She screamed all the way to the elevator and when they got to the ground floor, she was still screaming and thrashing around as the men struggled to carry her out. Onlookers watched in shock and some even took videos and pictures.
Everyone in the company knew Danielle to be a special friend of the boss who had the liberty to go see him at his office at any time, but seeing her being dragged out that afternoon got everyone confused.
*********************************************
“I’m still trying hard to believe what I witnessed at the lobby a while ago.” One of Adele’s colleagues, Ward, exclaimed and they all turned to look at him.
“I heard Miss Owens was dragged all way from Mr. King’s office to the lobby and she was wailing like a widow whose children had been seized by her in-laws.” Miranda, another colleague added.
“Wait, Miss Owens as in Danielle Owens?” Adele asked curiously and Ward nodded.
“You know, I really do pity the poor girl. For the past years, she has been clinging to Mr. King, probably hoping that he would one day ask her out. All sorts of dating rumors have sparked and died down, but Mr. King has never confirmed any. She is wasting her youth trying to get the attention of a man who obviously has no interest in her!” Ward explained.
“And what makes you think he had no interest in her?” That was Kyle.
“Those two have known each other all their lives, Kyle, if Mr. King had any interest in Miss Owens, he would have asked her out a long time ago, or even married her already!” Ward firmly asserted and Adele’s breath hitched.
She had nothing to say, so all she could do was drink water and listen to them talk.
“Mr. King is a very proud man. I’m sure he just doesn’t want to admit his feelings for her.” Kyle speculated and Adele shook her head at him.
“I don’t think that’s the case, Kyle. I think Ward is right. Mr. King is not interested in Miss Owens and I personally think he’s losing big time.” That was another colleague named Lois.
Adele frowned at what she just said.
“Why do you say so?”
“Take a look at Miss Owens. She’s gorgeous and she has a very successful modeling career. Her father is a very influential man in the country as well. She is in the same social status as Mr. King. They are perfect for each other.”
“You are wrong if you think that’s what a man wants in a woman, Lois. A man like Mr. King has it all already and I don’t think he really cares about status when choosing his woman. He’s definitely going to go for character and personality, not looks and social status.” Cole contradicted and explained from the door and everyone turned to look at him.
Adele smiled and crossed her arms over her breast as she relaxed herself on her chair to listen more.
The talk was getting sweeter.
“But then, what if Mr. King is gay?” Kelly asked out of nowhere and Adeke shot her a deadly look.
“That’s ridiculous! Mr. King isn’t gay!” Adele scolded her.
“How are you so sure? The guy has never courted a woman before. No one knows anything about his dating history. What if he’s interested in men and doesn’t want people to know?”
“Then I guess I better start shooting my shot!” Ward joked. “It would be amazing to have a billionaire boyfriend.”
“You all have gone whack!” Adele laughed as she opened the bottle of water in her hand to take a sip.
“What if he is secretly married?” Kyle speculated as well and Adele choked on the bottle of water she was drinking. The entire office erupted into laughter as they witnessed her predicament. Kelly laughed as well as she helped rubbed her back as she coughed hard.
“Kyle, just take a look at what your guess has done to someone. It’ll be wise if you stay quiet.” Ward said, laughing hard.
“I swear to God, you all have totally lost it!” Adele told them once she was calm again.
“But then, imagine being the wife of Mr. Jamal King Dominick!” Said Kelly dreamingly and all the girls in the office began to murmur.
“I will spend most of my days in the mall, shopping! I will wear every latest shoe and dress. My bedsheets will be made from money. I will live a life of luxury till I die.” Miranda imagined and Adele just shook her head.
She wanted to tell them it wasn’t as easy as they thought, especially as they were going to have a very bitter mother-in-law, but she chose to stay quiet and watch them imagine all the good things they would do if they were married to Jamal.
“If only you knew.” She said to herself as she smiled.
If only they knew, indeed.
“Adele, what about you?” Cole suddenly asked and Adele looked up at him in surprise.
“What about me?” She asked confused and Cole smiled.
“What would you do if you were married to Mr. King?” He asked with a wide smile. Adele’s heart fell into her abdomen. She looked around and everyone’s eyes were on her.
She had to say something immediately.
“I will support him in any way I can and of course, spend the money as I should.” She said letting out a nervous laugh.
The others just shook their heads at her.
“Adele you are boring, I swear.” Kelly fired and they all burst into laughter.
