CHAPTER SIXTY-THREE
Adele was restless in the office the entire morning as she kept thinking about Jamal. Everytime she thought of all that he had been through in the hands of his father, cold chills ran down her spine.
She could only imagine how hurt he must have been Danielle had presented the documents before him. What she admired the most was his ability to stay cool and act like nothing was going on.
His father had no idea he had found out what he was up to and Jamal didn’t give him any reason to suspect that he had found out. What also baffled Adele was how Danielle found out that his father had set traps for him, because he did not tell her.
In as much as Jamal was mad at Danielle for sleeping with his father, that was something he did not want to spread because the last thing he wanted was to damage her reputation.
He had once been in a position where his reputation was very close to being ruined and the feeling wasn’t a good one. He didn’t want to put anyone in that position.
“How did she find out?” Adele asked rhetorically as she leaned on the backrest on the chair and popped her knuckles. “Well, if he didn’t tell me, that means it is something I don’t have to know.”
“Adele.” She heard a voice call.
“Hmmm” she hummed as she sat upright on her chair to look at Kelly who was staring at her like she had lost her mind.
“Why are you talking alone?” She asked curiously and Adele chuckled as she waved her hand in the air.
“Ah… that, it’s nothing serious. Just a bad habit of mine.” She giggled and Kelly nodded her head and focused on her work even though her face showed that she was not convinced by what Adele had just said.
Adele bit her lips hard and knocked her temple with her fists. That was the second time she was talking in public and making people think she had lost her mind.
“Adeeeeelllleee….” She sang her name under her breath as she tried to focus on the work before her, to no avail. She couldn’t bring her mind to think of anything else but Jamal and she knew she would not be at peace with herself until she set eyes on him.
“Keliy” she whispered and Kelly turned to look at her.
“Yeah.”
“Do you happen to know if any important meeting may be going on now?”
“Adele, this is a conglomerate. Meetings are held almost every hour in every department.” Kelly explained and she nodded her head as she played with the pen in her hand.
She wanted to go to Jamal’s office and see him, but she wanted to know if he was in a meeting or not. She wanted to ask him if he was doing okay. After hearing all what he had been through in the hands of his father and Danielle, she couldn’t help but be concerned for him.
“Right! I’m going!” She whispered to herself as she rose to her feet.
“Where are you going?” Kelly questioned and she smiled down at her.
“To get some fresh air. Be right back.” She said and left the office.
She went into the elevator which took her to Jamal’s floor in the building. As she stepped out, she walked straight to his secretary who was luckily on her desk, typing away on her laptop.
“Miss Mackenzie!” The secretary greeted Adele with a polite smile.
“Hello Christine.” Adele reciprocated the smile. “Is Jamal in his office?” She asked and Christine’s mouth fell when she heard Adele address her boss by his first name.
Adele, who realized what she had done, put her hand over her mouth and chuckled.
“I’m sorry, Is Mr. King in his office?”
“Uhmm… no, he isn’t. He’s currently in a meeting which will be ending in thirty minutes.”
“Alright then. Can I go in and wait?” Adele asked and the woman quickly nodded her head.
“Yes, of course you can.”
“Thank you.” Adele thanked her and walked over to Jamal’s office door where she opened it and walked it. Once she closed the door behind her, Christine sat on her chair and furrowed her brows.
Jamal had given her orders to let Adele into his office anytime she showed and to let him know she was around even if he was in a meeting.
She quickly called and informed him of Adele’s presence before thinking again.
She was curious about Adele. She wanted to know who Adele was to him and she knew she was going to find out in just a matter of time.
Adele walked into Jamal’s spacious and well organized office with a broad smile on her face. The entire office was spotless. She had always known Jamal was a man who held a high regard for cleanliness and organization. Even back at home, she used to be the scattered one.
Jamal’s stuff was always intact and neat.
“Adele.” She heard him call from the door and she quickly turned to face him, totally shocked.
“Oh… my… but… I was told your meeting would end in thirty minutes. It’s not thirty minutes yet.”
“I had to end it when my secretary called to tell me you were here.”
“Oh Jamal!” Adele cried as she walked closer to him. “You didn’t have to end your meeting just to come and see me. I told her I was going to wait.”
“Seeing you is more important, love. I didn’t want to keep you waiting as well.” He said with a sweet smile and Adele let out an exasperated sigh as she inched closer to him.
The collar of his shirt and tie were distorted, so she raised her hands up and fixed them properly.
When she was done, sho looked up at Jamal and their eyes locked. Her heart began to race in her chest as she stared deep into his brown eyes that looked as charming as always. Jamal calmly raised up his right-hand and gently caressed her right cheek. Adele felt fireworks explored all over her body as their skins touched and she closed her eyes. As Jamal kept caressing her cheek, she tilted her neck to the side to get more of his touch.
Jamal’s heart was beating so hard that he was scared Adele would hear the sound, given how close they were to each other. That was the first time in many months they were standing so close to each other. His eyes were boring deep into beautiful ocean blue eyes and he was surprised that she was letting him touch her. He had expected her to retaliate by pushing him away, but she did not. On the contrary, she seemed to be enjoying herself.
He could see it in his eyes that she wanted him, maybe not as much as she wanted her, but she wanted him. She wanted to give him a second chance.
He broke eye contact and stared down at her pink full lips that looked just as succulent as ever.
It had been over a year since they last kissed and he was dying to get a taste of her lips. He slowly brought his face closer to hers in an attempt to kiss her, but she turned her face and stepped away from him.
He sucked in a deep breath and placed his hand over his mouth, turning around to avoid looking at Adele. He was embarrassed, but then, the thought of her getting mad and leaving office crossed his mind and he quickly turned to face her again.
“Adele, I’m sorry. I… it was… I…” he stuttered nervously and Adele just shook her head.
“It’s fine, it’s okay. You don’t have to be sorry.”
“You’re not mad.”
“Well, I am. But I’m not mad enough to leave.”
“Thank God.” He said letting out a heavy sigh of relief. “I’m… sincerely sorry. It’s never going to happen again.” He promised and Adele just nodded her head.
What he didn’t know was the fact that she wanted him to kiss her. It took her all her might and sound judgement to reject that kiss and she was already regretting it.
“Why aren’t you asking me what I’m here for?”
“Because you don’t need a reason to be here, Adele.” He said with a corny smile and Adele chuckled hard.
“You are such a sweet talker, Jamal. I have never known this side of you.”
“Well, now you are starting to know and I promise you are not ready for the full package.” He bragged and Adele just shook her head.
“I was just… you know, worried about you. I kept thinking about what you told me. Everything your father and Danielle put you through. I have not been able to get that out of my mind. I just came to check on you to make sure you are doing okay.”
“Well, I’m honored to have you worrying about me! My God!”
“I’m serious Jamal. Are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m okay, love.” He said, taking a stand before her. “I am doing just fine, thank you. That’s a thing of the past. I have gotten over it. It has no control over my life anymore. As of now, you are the only one who has control over my life!”
Adele gave him a hard smack on his arms and turned away after he said that.
“Well…” he continued. “Since you have deliberately refused to come spend a single night with me at the mansion, can I come and spend the night with you again today?” He asked andAdele looked at him with her eyes glittering with excitement.
“Yes!” She replied happily and Jamal smiled as he took his phone out of his tux jacket and sent a quick text to Sean, asking him to go over to the mansion and pack up some of his clothes because he was moving in with Adele.
If Moses wasn’t going to go to the mountain, then the mountain would go to Moses.
“Now that I’ve seen that you are okay, I think I should leave.”
“Stay.” Jamal contradicted.
“I have work to…”
“It will be taken care of. Just stay with me, please.”
“Thirty minutes only.”
“One hour.” He bargained.
“Forty-five minutes.” Adele stated and after a long moment of silence, she nodded.
“Deal!” He confirmed and started walking towards her.
“Your time starts now. Whoa whoa whoa!” She screamed as Jamal swept her into his arms and carried her bridal style. He walked over to a door and opened it up and there was a hallway which led to his private suit.
“Jamal, why are we going to your Private suit.”
“To take a forty-five minute nap with you in my arms.”
